Ovid, given your 25 init, are you going to want to just stay down and hidden until baddies are inside the temple?

Yep. Delaying until someone an enemy comes inside and within 8 squares.

Male Revenant (Drow) Tempest Fighter

Init = 1d20 ⇒ 12

As the living come into thier awareness, the skeletons react like a well honed machine. The drow archers stop, nock, and fire at the two in the doorway.

Arrow attacks against Vernal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 and Corpus: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Both arrows score as well, the barrel nearly, but not quite, deflecting the shot on Vernal.

Vernal takes 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 and Corpus takes 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

The swordsmen advance, then, and shove at the two with thier shields.

Both skeletons use Forward the Line, a shield bash that targets Fort. Attacks against Vernal: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 and Corpus: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

Corpus avoids the attack on himself, but Vernal is struck and staggers back.

Vernal takes 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 and is pushed to H24. Ovid is delaying and can take an action at any point. Stealth will be maintained until he does.

SS2, attack vs ac, 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12, damage = 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Corpus' Axes whistle in at the skeletons. Vernal's parries with his shield and Corpus' own foe dodges the attack.

Two misses.

Move to G16. Force Orb vs SS1,
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 132d8 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
Fail.

Malize calls forth a ball of force to send against the undead.

The ball of energy shoots past the skeletal foe, impacting against the ground outside.

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

The lifeless eyes of the skeleton do not show any pain even as the drow's power stabs into it. It does seem to stagger for a moment.

That should have been 10 damage. Forgot to add the +2 from Malize's awesomeness.

Apologies Kevoras. I'll get back a row and leave the ground clear for you, but Vernal's only got melee attacks at his disposal, due to inept building.

Kevoras can attack from G27 or J27 as well, though he and skeletons would get some cover from one another. Damage total updated.

Vernal DeWynter wrote:

No probs, I've got a plan.

Kevaras moves to F23 and with his standard action charges to G25 and uses Ardent Strike. At SS1, not Vernal.

Cha vs AC 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 7 + 1 - 2 = 22 (+1 for charging, –2 for cover)
Damage 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 = 8 (+2 from Malize's awesomeness)

If he hits, SS1 is subject to divine sanction until EONT.

He issues a divine challenge to SS2 with his minor action.

Kevoras charages into the battle and strikes the grimlock skeleton hard. The undead thing staggers, but does not fall.

The skeletal commander advances up behind his undead troops.

DM PCing Santander this action.

Santander darts forward to another pew, both to bring himself within range of the enemy, and to prevent any archer fire, then flames shoot out at Corpus' swordsman.

Santader moves to J16, and uses arcing fire against SS2. Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 hits for 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14.

The grimlock skeletons' old bones crackle and burn under those flames and the thing staggers but does not fall.

Ovid finally darts out from behind the pew and rushes towards the skeletons.

Double move to J25, then use Dancing Cobra on SS2(vs Reflex), extra 4 damage going to it: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 2 = 271d10 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 = 12

17+4 for 21 total damage to SS2.

Male Hobgoblin Cosmic Sorcerer 2

Sorry, this thread isn't dotted for me yet, I overlooked it. Amy, thanks for the DMPC.

No prob Santander.

Even as the swordsman reels under the flame attack, Ovid darts in and finishes it and the grimlock dies for the second time.

However, the enemy is far from done. Again arrows arc in at Vernal and Corpus, though this time the dead drow archers advance after firing.

Archers versus Vernal: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 and Corpus 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

The shot against Vernal careens off the shield of the enemy swordsman and sticks into the barrel. However, the revenant is hit.

Corpus takes 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 damage.

The swordsman is drawn to Kevoras by the power of the divine and it lashes out with it's shield once more.

Forward the Line against Kevoras. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 vs Fort.

The shield smashes the paladin back, and the skeleton advances.

Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 and Kevroas is pushed to F24. The Skeleton shifts to G25.

Although Kevaras has SS1 right where right where he wants it to be, I don't think the skeleton can shift across a hard corner.

And it's Kevaras with two A's, but not Kevaraas like it says on my headstone. :)

You're right. RAW does say that. I've always ignored it, since I don't like that particular rule. But, I'll leave it up to the group - do you wanna play corner as RAW, or allow diagonals past them? It works for you as well as the monsters.

Female Drow Wizard

as RAW - it's easier to remember that way, as that's how I do it in all the games I DM or play in.

Male Drow Ardent 2

I'd rather go with RAW, even if it does mean Vernal is in exactly the wrong place.

Male Revenant (Drow) Tempest Fighter

Move to I26 and use duel strike first strike on B and the second on SC.

1st Attack vs AC, 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23, damage = 1d6 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 2 = 13
2nd Attack vs AC, 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20, damage = 1d6 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 7 + 2 = 13

B is the barrel. I'll assume you don't want to attack it, and instead attack the commander with both.

Ignoring his own wounds, Corpus steps into the doorway and attacks the skeletal commander. His axes bite deep into the undead creature and send bone fragments everywhere.

Malize stays where he is and throws a ball of force at the remaning swordsmans.

Force Orb vs Swordsman. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20. Hit: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (2, 6) + 6 = 14. Secondary attack against commander. 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19. Also hits. Damage: 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

The force ball slams into other grimlock skeleton, vaporizing it, and the resulting energy heavily damages the commander.

Male Drow Ardent 2

Couple of questions. Is B the barrel and can Vernal share a space with it. Also is Corpus still bloodied?

Male Drow Protecting Paladin 14 / Hospitaler

I would like to ask some questions as well. What sort of movement and/or check would be required to move out the window from F19 to D19? And what kind of terrain is outside the temple?

Yes, B is the barrel and the space can be shared. Yes, Corpus is still bloodied.

Note that while undead, the archers are not stupid. As long as people nicely make them themselves targets, the archers will stand and shoot at them.

The temple is on top of a barren, rocky, hill.

Going out the window would require a str check to break it, and an acrobatics or athletics check to avoid being cut by glass. However, leaving the temple would negate your temple bonuses for this wave.

Male Revenant (Drow) Tempest Fighter

Do we get a concealment bonus for standing behind the barrel?

Male Drow Ardent 2

Vernal smiles blissfully at Corpus and his tougher, buffer brother feels the better for this beneficence.

Ardent Surge for dear Corpus.
Surge plus 1d6 ⇒ 5 worth hp.
Move to F20

"Let the vermin come to us. You're so tempting, Corpus."

Vernal's mental powers aid the undead drow, as Vernal ducks out of sight.

No, the barrel does not provide concealment. As Vernal can attest though, when behind it, it has provided cover.

Thanks Amy, I'd forgotten about the bonus.

I use my standard action to use Second Wind, then move four squares to H26. Minor action to heal Corpus with Lay on Hands and Corpus regains HP as if he had spent a healing surge. I spend an action point to Valorously Smite Commander Skeletor.

Cha vs AC 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 for a critical (8, 8) + 4 + 2 = 22 damage.

And SC is subject to divine sanction until EONT.

Male Hobgoblin Cosmic Sorcerer 2

The zone should be centered on H32, so the SA's are on the edge of the zone, which makes them susceptible to being pulled/slid out of the zone to take the extra damage.

Male Shadar-Kai Monk 2

Ovid steps behind Corpus and tosses a shuriken at the archers.

Move to I25 and use a ranged basic attack on SA1, 9 shuriken left: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 151d4 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 2 = 8

I'd have to ask which archer, but you missed, so it doesn't matter this time :)

The shuriken flies past the head of one of the archers. The twin undead things fire again, and they target those that attacked them.

Archer 1 fires back at Ovid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20 and hits for 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 and Archer 2 fires at Santander: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 and also hits for 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7.

Arrows fly from within the fiery arc and both Ovid and Santander feel arrows thud into them. Then the archers emerge from the flames, gleaming short swords in hand, with wisps of smoke coming from thier bones.

Still trying to get a blasted dot. It's driving me mildly nuts. Threads I opened once, by accident, come up on the recently viewed list for days, but a thread I've posted obsessively on doesn't.
