Oooh, we DID ding!
Right now, we're over the assumed # of characters by +2 and in classes that are more powerful that what was available when RotRL was written. I have a spreadsheet I made that serves as an encounter-level calculator that I'll link you to in just a sec.
What you can do is look at the CR or EL for each fight in the book and then plug it into the calculator to see what it works out to with 2 additional characters. Then just add extra enemies or bump up the CR of one or two until things match again. (i.e. an advanced template, use max HP instead of average, etc.)
Also, since we used the 25-point buy and max starting gold, you may need to count each of us being 1 level higher in the calculations, tapering this benefit off as we rise in level. I'll upload the calculator with it pre-populated with our party in a few minutes...
Download Link: Encounter Calculator (preset for Eben's RotRL campaign)
2 Int 14
1 Human
1 Favored Class
+1 Climb
+2 Craft Armor
+1 Craft Weapons
+1 Intimidate
+1 Sense Motive (plus class bonus)
Eben, will we have any time/resources available to craft items? I'd like to get crackin' on a masterwork shield and masterwork armor ASAP.
Heavy Wooden Shield DC 14 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19 126/70 sp progress = finished in ~1/2 a week
Masterwork Shield DC 20 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 540/1500 sp progress in week 1
Masterwork Progress wk2 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 1100/1500 sp progress in wk2
Masterwork Progress wk3 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 1100/1500 sp no progress in wk3 and spend 25 more gold on mwk component
Masterwork Progress wk4 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29 1680/1500 sp in wk4
Mwk Heavy Wooden Shield will take 4 weeks to complete costing 81gp and 7sp.

Wow, that was a lot of reading! :) And we leveled, yay!!
For the 3D-ness, I'm all for playing it out. I'm trying to "live" Nadya - at least in game. Though Janet has problems leaving the game behind, lol. Makes for some interesting personality changes IRL!

Anneke, regarding ECL...Yah, even coming into this, I realized that this group would already be stronger than what the AP planned for, but I wanted to err on the side of caution. Plus, as you'll find out soon enough, you guys smashing your way through the first series of encounters is kind of expected in the way it's written. I had originally thought you guy swould be somewhere between +1 to +2 ECL over what they offer in the campaign, but I'm realizing that, at least for the short term future, you guys are probably somewhere between +2 to +4 ECL over... I'll get the hang of it. But thanks for the tools. Always helpful.
Also, about the crafting times... I knwo you're about to have some decent down-time, I don't knwo that it's measured in weeks. Hold onto those rolls/plans, and as I get the next leg of this journey hammered out, I'll revisit it with you.
That brings me to my final point (I know, finally, right?)... I'm gonna have to take a bit of a further look down theroad on this one, and i'm not sure I'll have time to do it today. So it may be late today or this weekend before I can provide any more real story-line meat for you guys to partake of. In the mean time, roleplay if you want, take a break if you want, but it shouldn't take too long.
Also, Gilbere. So, you did, indeed kill the guy? I just need to hear from you definitively waht you did at the end of that fight with him.
Tale-Spinner Eben |
I'm fine with it happening in either, to be honest, though it might help keep the other thread uncluttered if it happens here. also, unless there is some RP reason to do any 'in-character' purchases, don't feel like you have to... just either post your purchases here or possibly blue-text it in the other.
Like i said, unless you want to do it in-character for some reason.

Eben: Cool wasn't sure if you had considered that or not. FWIW, that tool has been a huge help to both myself and a local player who was trying to learn DMing. Even though Pathfinder has made encounter building easier, it's still (IMO) the toughest part of the job — even if it is a fun one. :)
As for loot, have we acquired any to sell thus far? Otherwise shopping will be really brief. ;)
Tale-Spinner Eben |
You have some time to shop, but no one has really been asking to roll bodies. While i'll be calling for some checks, i'm not going to prompt you to check bodies for loots... far as I'm concerned, the most you've found is the vial of unidentified power. But then again, they're goblins... how valuable can their crap be, right?
to make things easier for me, you guys should probably tell me when you're looking for lootz.
Priyya |
Priyya's character sheet has been fully updated. FWIW, I generated her using Hero Lab and, on downloading the latest patch, it's clear the earlier version had some squirrelly skill allocation mistakes that they have repaired. So one of my rolls is now lower than it was previously and another one jumped up. Odd. From now on, I'll double-check all the math by hand.
If Gilbere wants to have some fun trying to identify the potion using brains instead of spells - Priyya now has Spellcraft +5 and he can assist or vice versa.
Spellcraft (to ID - not including Gilbere Assist) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Spellcraft (to assist Gilbere's Spellcraft attempt) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Nadya Tsura |
I think I can assist as well? 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Let me know if I'm missing something.

That is one of the fun things about this game, in my opinion. It does bleed over into real life sometimes... [insert old codger reference] Back in the old days... Dragon magazine had various comics in them. My personal favorite, to this day, is:
Imagine a picture of a computer wonk guy, in cubicle hell, standing in front of his boss' desk and pulling his boss, by his tie, over the desk. Computer wonk is snarling and says...
"FIRE me?! You think that can scare me?!?! I fight DEMONS!!!"
Priyya |
You only needed a 16... it's a Potion of Cure Light Wounds... somebody put it on your character sheet!
Oh, for some reason I thought the roll was a 25... I'd suggest one of the front-liners who isn't already packing plenty of healing (i.e ME) carries it. Anneke or Paehz maybe... although little Nadya seems to like charging in and mixing it up a lot. :)

"FIRE me?! You think that can scare me?!?! I fight DEMONS!!!"
Love it! Thought mine's going to include charm person somehow. :)
although little Nadya seems to like charging in and mixing it up a lot.
Heh, I don't mean to, honest! I did just pick up a little healing for myself. (I had no idea bards could HEAL! Best class ever!!) I suggest one of the tank-types.

No worries. Have some fun with it for awhile! I'm happy to cover your forays into danger... Just bear in mind that Eben is going easy on us so far and you are lightly armored (although that HP roll was monstrously good). When we start running into serious encounters, you're probably not gonna want to lead the charge... unless you want to practice your bardic healing abilities a lot. :)
Anneke |
Also, with the buffs a bard provides to others, that makes the folks who a specialized at fighting that much better. However, those front-liners have to be protecting someone else rather than tanking or laying into an enemy with everything they've got then that could be risky or even undermine their efforts.
Still, bards are nothing if not versatile. Good class to try out a little bit of everything.

I realize you guys are waiting on me, and i'm sorry for the interruption... life got in the way. We're approaching "go time" with the birth of my first, and my free time has been all but spoken for. I'm gonna try to get some things posted over the next few days and get this ball rolling again.
Thanks for everyone's patience.
Priyya |
Priyya's email
I'll assume the food buying is the next day and will RP the prep and meal stuff when it makes sense based on how long the other players do the evening's conversation, etc.
Here are Priyya's first attempts. The rolls.
Cook 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 = 13
Cook 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 = 16
Cook 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12
Cook 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 2 = 25 DISCO! After 4 attempts, numerous throw-away concoctions, Priyya manages to recreate her mother's best curry dish... along with attendant and required extras (rice or dhaal), and a milder version for Anneke the wuss.

Okay, sorry for the long absence. This weekend was my 30th birthday, and I didn't really get a chance to touch my computer to check emails much less post something in any of my games. I'll have something up today to get things rolling again... thanks for the patience, folks. (next time i'll try to give you a heads up if i'm going to be absent.)
Tale-Spinner Eben |
Okay, this is everyone's official warning...
My firstborn is due to be born anywhere from this next week through the beginning of July. This could mean a dramatic increase or decrease in my ability to post. if the game suffers, I apologize, but lets' face it... he and my wife will be my priority. I'll try to let you know when it happens, though.
consider yourself warned.
Nadya Tsura |
Warning taken! Though you know you'll be posting during 2am feedings. :) Oh, and happy 30th, VERY belated! ;)
Sorry for being MIA. I'm still swamped but have been attempting to keep up with the reading. Definitely prefer the non-spoiler version!! IE: Keep it together, people! ;)
For the time being, please assume I'm tagging along with Kord... he gives me a synopsis on the drive home in case I've missed anything. He'll IM me when we leave town & I'll try not to fall behind.
Great role playing, lots of fun reading... bummed I'm missing it! Silly job....
Priyya |
Eben - First, congrats on the little nippers arrival! Second, ya gots ta take care of yo' bizness - so do that - your warning has been officially logged and timestamped.
Nadya - WORK really has a way to cut into the PLAY schedule. It's outrageous. Something is VERY wrong with that system. :) Having said that, I hope work lightens up and you can return quickly.
Anneke |
Oh, I love it! It's one of those games that makes me play past my wrists hurting and waaaay past my bedtime on work nights. Notices that it is now 5pm. <== Case in point.
I played Alis as a City Elf Rogue in the original campaign and I'm playing Alexis as an Elven Grey Warden Mage in the "Awakening" expansion. IMO this is what NWN2 should have been like. It certainly is BioWare's spiritual successor to their lineage of great CRPGs (Baldur's Gate, NWN, etc.)
