Valeros, the man, the mystery, the legend.

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Oh man, I love Valeros. In fact, I love him and his sweet tankard so much I made him the main npc to follow the party around in my Rise of the Rune Lords game. My two female players absolutely adore him. I hear them chittering all the time about his cute little nose scar or his ruggedly handsome jawline. And I have to admit, he is rather dashing.

So I was curious as to who created him so my female player and I may personally give them our thanks. Does anyone have an idea?

Dark Archive

That, like much about Valeros, remains a mystery. :)

Grand Lodge

Searching threads and the Core Rulebook pre-release teasers, I do not see any accreditation to the creator of Valeros. Perhaps Jason would be willing to release this info, but my guess is that the iconics were colaborative efforts from the design team and then tweaked during beta-testing

Valeros is much older than the Core Rulebook - his debut was in the very first issue of Pathfinder AP, all the way back in 2007.

I think James said that the early histories were done by him a day or two before the blog posts. As for he looks, I'm pretty sure it was all Wayne Reynolds - James/Jason/Wes have mentioned that they pretty much said "iconic male human fighter using 2 swords" for the art order, I think.

"Valeros", that's Castillian isn't it?

He's a good guy, tough in a fight, but maybe a little "light in the loafers". Which is fine, your female players might be a little disappointed though.

Valeros?

@#$%er owes me five gold.

One of the Paizo guys might correct me, but my understanding is that the Cpt is pretty well spot on; Wayne came up with the look, Doc Jacobs probably did the art order and came up with the background info.

I guess you are right. :( If only our god Sir Jacobs of T-rexia would answer!

What we know for certain about Valeros:

He's flatulent.

...

That's about it, aside from the faithfulness to Cayden.

That picture....is amazing. You just made me connect with him on the deepest level. Now the question is... are there anymore like that?

Silver Crusade

Nah, the rest are mostly him getting tentacled or about to be.

Seriously.

Or bitten, or clawed, or stabbed, or flung through the air ...

Nameless!!! Bad DM! BAD! How dare you declare my love for Valeros to the world! I will now divorce Valeros and begin a more emotionally fulfilling relationship with Harsk!

what background info

i have in .doc all the characters backgrounds... Valeros was the 1st one to appear in the blog with his stats... but he was the only one without a background :P

tsk tsk tks

and i was going to give you evertyhing is to know about the gentleman...

Everything you wanted to know about Valeros

I myself I am a more Merisiel man :)

I formally retract my previous statement! (though not the part about a possible liaison with Harsk) Thank you Montalve! <3 <3 <3

Don't feel bad Goldberry, everyone loves Valeros (I hear there's a sitcom in the pipeline).

+1 point Mothman. I lol'd.

I'll admit, Valeros is pretty rockin' awesome.

I still wish I could find an artist that had a style resembling the standard pathfinder Artwork style, so that I might commission him/her. The artwork is absolutely amazing!

I'd like to see some more of Valeros beating the monster, he all know he'll do alot of damage with two weapon rend et al on his next turn, but does he have to get tentacle thrown quite so much!

I want to see him beat the crap out of Troll or something! But it'll never happen becasue swords are more gory than constrict or spells!

Valeros is the guy I would want at the party. Merisiel and Seoni are who I would want for the after party.

Edit: Or maybe I would hang with Lini since she gets ignored so much.

my pleasure to be of service :)

Liberty's Edge

as the cleric of the party I can only say that Valeros is jsut doing his job as he is being tosled, tentacled thrown, hit and everything else...

he risk his skin to keep the others of us alive... of course then my work is to keep him patched and boosted him enough for him to survive his ordeals... so we are cool with him doing his job... while we keep the likes of Merisiel.. and maybe Seoni safe... Lini is small enough to be safe by herself... (lol sorry my usual "I feel wrong with cute halflings" safeguard always kicks in :P)

Goldberry, you are more likely to have a fulfilling relationship with an ooze then to have one with Harsk. Unless of course you happen to be a tea connoisseur.

No, that'd be Evrem (the wizard iconic). While there were some fans alluding to/hoping for it to be Valeros it's the bachelor wizard.

Valeros is a carousing lech who enjoys "a night of soft company" - i.e. women. That's from the pre-gen writeups going as far back as RotRL. I also believe there was artwork reinforcing that stance (LoF?).

the wiki to the rescue: Valeros Looks like it was first put into the stats section in PF#3 when the iconics got the expanded space (at lease I think thats when they got the expanded space....)

That's what his spiffy mug is for - pummeling monsters and smartypants in equal measure, then washing the taste out immediately afterward.

My favorite pic of him is on the cover of Howl of the Carrion King as he's slaying some gnolls.

RPG Superstar 2011 Top 16

He once punched a magician.

That's right. You heard me.

Sovereign Court

I just find the sheer amount of pictures of him dying, dead, or about to be smashed over the head in the core rulebook hilarious.

Look for yourself, you'll begin to see a pattern... Clearly fighters are meant to go down every single fight.

Too bad the average fighter won't know that. You can try to complain as he hacks your corpse into little pieces to bait the next monster with :P

Until I picked up fireball in our RotRL campaign, our fighter was getting 90% of the kills and doing most of the heavy lifting.

It's Ezren? I would've laid my money on Harsk or Seltyiel.
