Hello,
I am a level 1 sorcerer trying to pick my arcane bond item. Which items can I pick at this level, and when I cast a spell using a bound item, do I have to prepare it, even though I'm a sorcerer? Or do I use it as if I am a level 1 wizard?
Also, do I have to pick a school of magic for my spell, or do I only have to do that if I'm a wizard. But I wield the item as a wizard, so maybe I do have to choose a school of magic. And if so, must I pick a spell that's not opposed to my school?
I'm in over my head, and have so many spells to choose from, but only 6 hit points.
Could you give me any tips on choosing spells? Are they arranged by level, or categorized, or are they simply listed alphabetically?
Thanks!

As far as I can tell you don't have an arcane bond as a sorcerer you simply have a bloodline. Are you confusing yourself with a specialist wizard? Sorcerers don't have opposing schools.
As for choosing spells, I recommend you choose some battlefield control spells like grease and a damaging spell like magic missile to start.

If you are a 1st level Sorcerer, with the Arcane Bloodline, then yes, you do get an Arcane Bond just like the Wizard. Read the description of Arcane Bond items in the Wizard entry, it plainly states exactly which items you can have.
Objects that are the subject of an arcane bond must fall into one of the following categories: amulet, ring, staff, wand, or weapon.
As for casting a spell:
A bonded object can be used once per day to cast any one spell that the wizard has in his spellbook and is capable of casting, even if the spell is not prepared
All it means is that you can cast any 1 spell you know. For a Sorcerer, that means "Spells Known", since they don't carry a spellbook.
Choosing a spell: Simply look in the back of the book under "Sorcerer/Wizard Spell List" and select the appropriate number of cantrips (0 level spells) and 1st level spells, based on your "Spells Known". At first level, you'd choose 4 zero level spells, and 2 first level spells.
Just relax, take a deep breath, say "woosah", and just read. It's all there ^^

I really appreciate the quick responses. I'm off to work. I'll be back. I'm trying the best to do this on my own. Maybe I should make some flash cards to remember all this stuff. I could write a Python program to test my knowledge of my race and class, and all the other stuff. I haven't been this overwhelmed since my first day of Calculus 2. :P

Just a note,
"Arcane bond" and "Arcane School" are diferent features, Arcane Sorcerers only get the "Arcane bond" feature, so you can't specialize in a magic school (which is optional for the wizard anyways). The "school power" you get at level 15 is not a school specialization, afaik.| Sarrion |

That's correct you don't specialize but you do get to choose a school of magic that has an increase to DC's at level 15.

Thanks for the help. But some items are more powerful than others. I can't just grab up an ultimate item as a first level sorcerer, can I?
The bonded item is a always a masterwork item at level 1 (masterwork rings, amulets and wands are useless, staffs and weapons have a +1 attack bonus).
When you get enough money you can improve the item, enhancing it with magic properties. Crafting magic items has its own rules, what you need to enhance your bonded item is many money, some time, and many ranks in the Arcana skill. You usually need half the money of the market price of the magic object.
I.e. If you have a ring, you can make it into a +1 ring for 1000 gp (the ring costs 2000 gp), and later the +1 ring can become a +2 ring for 3000 gp (the +2 ring cost 8000 gp, minus the 2000 of the +1 ring, then halved). Etc.. Usually you don't get enough money until level 2 or 3.

Where can I find the rings and other items that can be bonded in the core rulebook.
By the way, so I CAN choose a magic school? If so, could I be a generalist, or should I specialize, even though I would have to choose opposing schools?
EDIT: Why would the magic items list be in the Game Master section of the book? Isn't that misleading to a new player? And where are the amulets?

1. Any ring of masterwork quality will suffice. You would receive this ring for free at 1st level. When you first get it, it will have no magical properties, aside from being used to cast a single spell you know once per day.
When you reach your 7th sorcerer level, you can then enchant the ring as if you had the Forge Ring feat, even if you don't have the Forge Ring feat. What this means is that you can turn your bonded ring into a magical ring, spending the appropriate time and money to do so. Look in the Ring section under Magic Items to see what types of rings can be crafted. A common choice would be to make it into a Ring of Protection. Other good choices would be a ring of Invisiblity, a ring of Freedom of Movement, or a ring of Energy Resistance.
Note that any magical properties you give your bonded ring in this way would only work when you wear it; no other person could use the powers of this ring.
2. As a sorcerer you do not choose to specialize in a school of magic. You will not have any opposing schools, and you will not gain extra spells per day like a specialist would.
What you do get as a sorcerer with the arcane bloodline is the School Power bloodline ability at 15th level. Once you reach 15th level sorcerer, you choose one school of magic, and from then on any spells you cast from that school have their saving throw DCs increased by 2. This basically works like Greater Spell Focus for that school of magic, and this increase will stack with Spell Focus and Greater Spell Focus.
And thats all it does. This power has no effect on any other schools of magic.
3. The Magic Item section for the 3.5 version of Dungeons and Dragons was in the Dungeonmasters Guide. The properties of magic items was considered to be DM material and not necessarily player information. Since the Pathfinder Core Rule Book essentially combines the Players Handbook and the Dungeonmasters Guide into one book, the rules for magic items are found in the DM section of the book. However, its still a good idea to read through the entire book as a new player, as there is a lot of information in the DM section that is good for a player to know (such as the effects that different terrains have).
Amulets are considered clothing type items, and magical amulets can be found in the Wonderous Item section of the Magic Item section. However, the amulets and other neck-slot items are not separated out in that list, so you have to look through the list to see what amulets there are. Brooches, Necklaces, Pendants, and Periapts are considered the functional equivalent of Amulets, and those could be used as a bonded item as well.

Actually he can enchant the ring from level 1 as if he had the feat. The requirements are waived for him, and the item doesn't need to be masterwork -- once it's his arcane bond it is treated as if it is anyways.
Not trying to be a know-it-all, but you might want to reread the arcane bond section in the CRB. He has to have a caster level sufficient to qualify for the feat in question in order to enchant the bonded item. An example is given in the text of the wizard needing to be 5th level to enchant a bonded dagger, since that is the level when one qualifies for Craft Magical Arms and Armor.
In the case of a ring, he'd need to be 7th level. For an amulet, 3rd level (for Craft Wondrous Item).
The item does indeed have to be masterwork. He begins play with it already for free. But check the section on replacing a destroyed bonded item; he has to pay the 200gp/level plus the cost of the masterwork item. This suggests that he is either purchasing a new masterwork item, or is creating one as part of the process. (Alternatively, he could select an existing magic item to be a bonded item, but that already includes the masterwork portion.)

Hello,
I am a level 1 sorcerer trying to pick my arcane bond item.
Thanks!
I am in the same boat as the OP, I need to know what I can use for a bound item. I think the core rule book says it needs to be masterwork item, but not a lot of those lying around for lvl 1 characters.

The item is free at first level, just dont lose it, or get it broken. The list of items you can choose is in the book under the arcane bond section.

Lunesta, the item you choose will just be a plain old item except it happens to be your bonded object. (And it counts as masterwork craftmanship.)
So if you want your bonded object to be a ring, it's just a ring, not a ring of protection +3, or a ring of acid resistance, or any other magic item. Just a nice ring.
Get it?
If you want you can enchant it more later.
