Are you just looking for a fight or does being an asshat come natural to you? We've all been guilty of using derogratory terms at one point or another, doesn't make it right. If you knowingly use terms that you know are offensive then that's just... well, being an asshat. But you'll stand by what you said and show no attempt at apology. Use of terms such as Gay or Retard when used as insults degrade a group of people. That is a fact, you don't have to like it, but you know it's true. So either stop using the terms, or deal with the backlash without whining like a lil' brat when people get offended.

But to make a post worthwhile: within living memory, and within recent memory, these terms have been used as pejoratives. In fact, they have primarily been used as pejoratives during the whole of my life, and I have a feeling I'm older than you (given the apparent idiocy of the "vast majority" of people you run with.)
I cannot vouch for other countries, but here in the US,once a word gains a pejorative context, that word retains those connotations for many, many years even overshadowing their legitimate contexts.
When you describe something as "gay" you are not saying that it is lighthearted and fun, you are borrowing the pejorative context that the word has held for at least several decades. This does two things: it perpetuates the negative context of the word, and it reinforces that negative context to the aggrieved group that it originally applied to.
I hate with unending passion threads like this. You can continue to use these terms as much as you like, but do understand that the people you offend have a legitimate complaint. If you don't mind people hating you or getting expelled from various fora, go for it.
Gay as a pejorative is only fairly recently widespread. Maybe 15 or so years since it became widespread. Its younger then the early first person shooters as I was playing those when they first became wise spread and people where not throwing gay around as a pejorative. they where throwing around a lot of pejoratives - just not gay.
