I went for:

Churjiir
Chymick
Haga
Splorudra

Star Voter Season 6

The exit poll tally as the East Coast meets its morning muffin:
.
.
.
.

16 Jim Groves - Skintaker
15 Matthew McGee — Ossuary Golem

11 Benjamin Bruck - Chymick
11 Richard Hunt — Splorudra
10 David Posener — Haga
9 Jesse Benner - Chaitrakhan

7 Alexander MacLeod — Ardorwesp
7 Tom Phillips — Slithering Horror
6 Matt Goodall — Churjiir
6 Joshua Kitchens — Astrumal
5 Matthew Morris - Lahamu
5 Jason Schimmel — Caltrop Golem
5 Lief Clennon — Rotling
5 Sean McGowan — Rictus

4 Dennis Baker — Brown Urus
4 Chris Mortika — Lantern Thrall
3 Nicolas Quimby — Liesinger
3 James Martin — Wyrnhiri

2 Jeff Spencer — Marrow worm
1 Erik Randall — Sin-Fallen Angel of Gluttony
1 Alex Shideler — Prismwing, Larvae
1 Stephen Sheahan — Corpse Sticher

Please correct me if I double counted. In addition, I didn't count people who posted partial votes that indicated they were still making up their minds. And, of course, these exit polls are NOT predictive (yet). After all, four votes puts you in the top 16 right now.

You added Quandary's new votes without removing their old ones, there should be one less for Skintaker, Astrumel, Brown Urus and Lantern Thrall :)

[edit] also according to my tally I make it 8 for Ardorwesp (one misspelt as Arborwesp) and 12 for Chymick

I just went for the four concepts I liked the best and decided to ignore the more technical considerations some of them raised.

-Corpse Stitcher
-Necrotic Tempest
-Caltrop Golem
-Lantern Thralls

Statistics! Fun!!!! I want to play too!

I voted for:
Dennis Baker — Brown Urus
Jason Schimmel — Caltrop Golem
Jesse Benner — Chaitrakhan
Stephen Sheahan — Corpse Sticher

I'm half-tempted to switch one of my votes for the Tremagguan; it was nowhere near my top-four, but they're all relatively high and the thought of the parasite-leech-men not getting through makes me sad :(.

Star Voter Season 6

I did miss the edit, thanks.

My votes are:

Jared Goodwin — Tremagguan
James Martin — Wyrmhiri
Jim Groves — Skintaker
Chris Mortika — Lantern Thrall

My voting decision was made less on flavor and more based on what I want to see at the END of the competition. Namely, these four wrote monsters who generated the most narrative and emotion to my mind. Since the winner writes a module, I want that module to be as gripping as possible.

Condolences to Hunt and McGowan, who were the last two selections I cut before placing my vote.

Dark Archive

I chose:
Chymic
Ossuary Golem
Splorudra
Ardorwesp

most of them seemed to be trying to shock/macabrify my vote out of my. That made the bunch of them seem less unique in feel/flavor to me.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8 aka Tarren Dei

We're only allowed four votes? Arrgh. Far too many monsters worth voting for in this round.

My votes are going to (in no particular order):

  • Matthew Morris -- Lahamu
  • Jim Groves -- Skintaker
  • David Posener -- Haga
  • Stephen Sheahan -- corpse stitcher

If I had two more votes, I would vote for:

  • Tom Phillips -- Slithering Horror
  • Matthew McGee -- Ossuary Golem

  • Skintaker: beautifully fills a niche with a rare sympothetic villain.

Marrow Worm: sometimes adventuring is ugly business. This is proof of that. The threat of it can be as effective as using it.

Carapace devil: An elegant alternative to intelligent items which opens the door for a whole class of creatures that hide inside of items.

I don't have a forth pick as of yet, but further review warrents it I'll edit this post to reflect that.

I have only one vote to report so far, and that is for:
    Benjamin Bruck - chymick

I am still pondering the allotment of my other three votes.

    I voted for:
    David Posener - Haga
    Jim Groves - Skintaker
    Benjamin Bruck - Chymic
    Alex Shideler - Prismwing, Larvae

Matthew McGee — Ossuary Golem (Possibly one of the most interesting ideas this round).

Joshua Kitchens — Astrumal (Inventive annoyance monster. If it is still possible to use weapons that are stuck to this thing-albeit at a negative, then I think it could be way more entertaining to fight one of these than a rust monster. Imagine yourself and your armor stuck to this thing trying to fight it-- and doing some damage-- and imagine the other partymembers; the wizard and rogue... laughing.)

Dennis Baker — Brown Urus (I find this herd idea really exciting; and the fact that it also involves manipulating other species as guardians is an interesting touch.)

Alex Shideler — Prismwing, Larvae (Sandtrap!)

    ---Honorable Mentions
Crysalis- A little too much seemed to be going on.
Caltrop Golem- I like the revenge from the grave idea.

    Liberty's Edge

    whoops. sorry.

I don't like to reveal my votes, as I believe every entry should be taken on it's own merit. I feel that one should at least read through the entry, if not analyze it with scrutiny. The judges expect no less. That said, I am shamed to admit I voted for one of the monsters that was not really a monster. It was just too well written, and the potential inherent between this particular contestants original item submission and the item-monster in question was too...potent. There was also a quality that each monster I voted for shared...but I wouldn't want to create any bias!

Uh-huh. I seriously doubt that a poll like this one creates a measurable bias when compared to the influence of people arguing on the actual threads. But you do whatever you want. Enjoy the competition.

Wow, really? I feel like a petty little arse saying this, but could I get a reference on that? I can only think of instances of ties ranked at the top of the range, and googling around has kind of backed me up, but hasn't given me anything definitive.

As for using this thread to decide your votes; yeah I can't imagine people even looking at this thread before they've read the entries thoroughly and formed some opinions, it's just a bunch of numbers if you don't know what the monsters are!

I'm pretty sure the only way this thread introduces bias is due to the handful of people who "Game" their votes by eg. switching one of their votes from a runaway leader to bolster an entry that's outside their top 4 but they really want to see in the top 16 as discussed in the "Full Rankings?" thread. That's their prerogative and I doubt anyone thinks that's the purpose of this thread. I guess it's possible that people do the "Oh well my favorite doesn't stand a chance so I'll vote for the one I hate the least" thing so often seen in politics (and it drives me up the wall), but that's why Roguerouge always puts the message on the end pointing out the tiny margins towards the bottom of the rankings. We've had entries get through with zero votes in the round exit polls before (eg. Boemundo last year, twice IIRC) and it'll happen again, no one's out of the running yet!

The main purpose of this thread for me at least is exactly the same reason I look at political exit polls. I tend to vote early and the wait between casting my vote and the result being announced can be interminably long, so in the meantime I obsess over every scrap of data I can get to see how my choices are doing.

Also I find a perverse kind of entertainment in doing tallies :P.

The other reason I do this is because Paizo never reveals vote numbers at the end of the round, and their stated rationale is "Because." While not as good as final returns, exit polls do give a sense of fair play to the competition for me. If, for example, Jim Groves didn't advance, then at least we'd know that was an unusual result requiring explanation, for which we could then ask. The gold standard would be final vote tallies, but since we're not going to get those, this is the best way we can keep an eye on the process.

Data entry does have its small pleasures, yes. I used to do my little league team's baseball statistics. Great improvements on the polling. The partial vote indicators are really helpful!

And yes, Boemundo, as I recall, believed the news attention he was getting in Brazil boosted him in the voting. If there's a Saskatoon lobby or a Netherlands landslide, it's fun to find that out now. And poor Nick Wain doesn't have any regional lobby!

Incidently sorry that when I post ties are at the top of the range rather than the bottom, but that's how the spreadsheet does it and I'm lazy too lazy to do anything other than C&P the list :P.

    Dark Archive

    I might change my mind, but right now;

    Echo Drinker
    Chaitrakhan
    Lantern Thrall
    Wyrmhiri

If I had one more, it would be the Crysalis, and I might just replace one of the above with it...

The current results baffle me. I only really liked one of the top three!

Minor nitpick: ties are properly ranked at the bottom of the grouping, not the top. The format should be like so:
Wow, really? I feel like a petty little arse saying this, but could I get a reference on that? I can only think of instances of ties ranked at the top of the range, and googling around has kind of backed me up, but hasn't given me anything definitive.

Looks like it can go either way, and yours might be the more common method.

Ranking ties at the bottom seems far more useful in this case, though. I want to see how close I am to the in/out break point, not how close I am to the top!

It also means you don't need the T in there, because reading down the list the skipped number comes before the tie, letting you know it's coming.

    Star Voter Season 9

    My complete vote is:

    Splorudra
    Chaitrakhan
    Corpse Sticher
    Skin Taker

My vote for the Splorudra has already been counted.

Huh, Wikipedia was the first place I checked, how the hell did I miss the article *confusion*

Ahh well, good point that its more useful in this case, I'll change it up manually when I post then :). Hmm, would people be interested in me copying this vote matrix into google docs and sharing it? It's very quick and dirty, but you can just sort, then C&P the table summary for speedy tally generation :).

Actually scratch that, there's a dead simple way of correcting it to show ties at the bottom of the range, wheeeeeeeeee:

    My votes went to:
    Chymic
    Ossuary Golem
Rictus (despite hating the practice of using real-world words for monster names...)
    Astrumal

Would've added Chaitrakhan if there was a fifth vote.

    Matthew McGee — Ossuary Golem

    Tobias Mullen — Deathleech Puppeteer

    Tom Phillips — Slithering Horror

This was tough, and I wish I had 7 votes. I finally went with. . .

    Slithering Horror
    Rotling
    Skintaker
    Lahamu

    Dark Archive

    My picks, in no order:

    Sensory Stalker
    Prismwing Larvae
    Slithering Horror
    Tremagguan

Rotling and Corpse Stitcher were very close but we only get 4 votes.

My third vote has gone to Jared Goodwin's tremagguan.
I am still pondering the allotment of my last vote.
