Alchemist - Pharmacist

Round 3: Alchemist and Inquisitor

I wondered if adding the dimension of pharmacist to the alchemist class may expand his flexibility. I would expect the alchemist to be able to create drugs or medicinals which could do more than just cure wounds and illnesses, but enhance the capabilities of others.

The Book of Vile Darkness offers examples of "drugs" which are sinister in nature by virture of their addicting properties. I recommend opening this option to the Alchemist, but with similar "drugs" or "medicinals" which provide an alchemical bonus, but aren't damaging or addicting.

Well several of his extracts already cover this:

He has available over the course of 20 levels:
Cure light wounds, cure moderate wounds, cure serious wounds, lesser restoration, restoration, heal, remove disease, neutralize poison, et al.

So he can already do the "pharmacy" thing... if he take the infusion discovery -- otherwise he can just do it for himself.

I see no reason that "drugs" and "medicinals" can't exist as part of the Alchemist's class portfolio even though he has extracts and infusion discovery. After all, poisons exist in the game even though the Cleric and Druid can cast "Poison" spell. Like the variety of poison types, "drugs" and "medicinals" could have different effects than spells.

Like Anti-Toxins? I think a healer's kit would be crafted with an alchemy check (at least in part). Harpy's Musk is considered a "cure all" (even though it has no such effect) so would be a good "in character" choice.

Actually a lot of the items in the free player downloads for the AP's are good items to look at too.

Wow, you have opened up a whole new world for me. I can now have Alchemists become drug lords, and get whole populations of commoners get addicted to their drugs. This can become a whole 'drug war' scenario(s).

I'm in my second year of pharmacy school right now (with 3 years of undergrad already under my belt). You, good sir, just made my day hahah.

Not a problem. Physician here x 19 years. It seems a shame to not exploit the pharmacist aspect of the Alchemist given that drugs/medicines/chemical compounds/etc don't fit with other classes as well.

Yoiu could even take the leadership feat if your DM allowed you and have a bunch of junkies follow you around!
