Durnast pushes past the light-headedness and confusion, catches the gist of what's going on, and casts his spell intothe air, right above the enormous tiger next to Alia. Cascades of all manner of colors pour down upon the combatants, but only the creature is close enough to the effect to be ensnared by its magic.

Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 - Well that was close. The big cat stares at its own coruscating shadows, and then up at the light, its mind caught in the various designs and shifting patterns ... but it's a delicate thing, that trance. Any clear threat against the creature will break it, and anything the tiger would normally be wary about, such as the approach of a stranger, might do so as well.

--+--+--

Alia lets fly another five arrows at the creature next to Artimus. (The enemy is over 50' away from you, Alia, and there is an enormous beast right next to you, so you have to fire high and let the arc of the arrows bring them down on the distant tiger. That makes things a little tricky, but you don't want to disturb the i]rainbow pattern[/i].) Two shafts strike home, but it's still steady on its feet.

--+--+--

The smilodon in M5 (1-3, Artimus; 4, orc; 5,Veren: 1d5 ⇒ 2) unleashes its full attack against Artimus.

Left claw: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (7) + 20 = 27; damage 2d4 + 8 ⇒ (2, 4) + 8 = 14 points
Right claw: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (3) + 20 = 23; damage 2d4 + 8 ⇒ (3, 2) + 8 = 13 points
Bite: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 20 = 36; damage 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (1, 5) + 8 = 14 points, and grab.

Artimus is held. Next round, it'll get a rake as well.

--+--+--

The Kamadan's snakes snap into the air where it thinks Chamomile is. (There is only partial concealment bonus for invisibility because the pseudodragon is within 5'; the Kamadan has scent and can pinpoint Cam's location)
Snake head 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Snake head 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Snake head 3: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Snake head 4: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Snake head 5: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Snake head 6: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

None hit.

The rest of the Kamadan will take a 5' step west (which I cannot show on the map, as I merged some cells) and breathe another cloud of vapors, not quite realizing that Rasina is immune.

Alia, the smilodon, and Mikka, please make a DC 14 Fortitude save.

The smilodon 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 realizes it's in a cloud of magical vapors, and shrugs off the effects of the Kamadan's breath. It turns away from the rainbow pattern, looking for the cause.

--+--+--

Montegue: you're at 4 hit points, conscious but prone. Veren is standing over you, and the tang of healing potion and alcohol is still on your lips. What actions would most bring honor to you and your employer?
Chamomile:
Artimus:
Nadeq:
Orc Reclaimer:
Giant beetle:

--+--+--

Durnast:

Spoiler:
Reading the description of rainbow pattern, I'm pretty sure that it enraptures targets when it forms, and moving the pattern can get those victims to follow it like a will-o-wisp. If the pattern moves close to new creatures, which were outside its area of effect when cast, they're not subject to the spell's effects.

Durnast communicating w/ Nadeq:

Revelations:

Durnast doesn´t speak Goblin but it looks like Nadeq can babble in both Goblin and Abyssal when he lapses into tongues. Since Cam woke Durnast before Nadeq´s turn anyways, I think Durnast would be awake to hear any Abyssal musings from Nadeq. If he does, either on Nadeq´s turn or his own, he will pass on the info like I said. If that chain breaks down somewhere, I guess Durnast didn´t hear the Abyssal bits and thus doesn´t share Nadeq´s take with everybody else. (though Veren looks like he has already found a truce with the Orc and it looks like Artimus has other problems)

Rainbow Pattern:
That seems the clearest way to go... I just read the spell description and it didn´t distinguish between the effect from being in the area at the beginning and later during the spell´s duration... but it seems reasonable (and appropriate for that spell/level) that past the first round the lights are weaker and can only ´maintain´ those entranced in the first round. I might just inform Paizo of that wording issue, but it seems a good way to run it for now.

Male Human Priest (Dreamer); HP 32/32; MP 19/19; Dodge 70/35/14

Montague will spend a Ki Point and use his wholeness of body ability to heal himself for 14 points, bringing him up to 18. He will then try to stand without provoking an AoO.

1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21 Acrobatics

And rejoin the fray

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Mikka feels the vapors muddle her mind momentarily and focuses her will, like fire burning away the morning mist.

Male Human Paladin 7

The smilodon isn't the only one who seems to feel it can do some real damage with a full round attack, Artimus stays squared off with it, knowing that every claw or bite he takes is one less that his allies need to deal with.

He clenches his hands on the base of his sword and brings it up, striking hard at the creature with three powerful strokes of his blade.

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20 Power Attack
1d8 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12 Damage

1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30 Power Attack, Haste
1d8 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 Damage
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21 Crit Confirmation

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Secondary Power Attack
1d8 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 Damage

With the last blow, knowing he needs to stay in the fight he focuses inwardly to try and shrug off some of his wounds.

4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 3) = 9 Swift Action Lay on Hands

Monty, if the smilodon goes down and you need it, you can delay until after me and I'll give you a lay on hands next round before we go charging at the others.

Female Human Ranger 7

Fort save 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17

Male Human Paladin 7

I just realized that I may have been grabbed my the smilodon with his bite attack before. If that is the case, then all my attacks would be 2 less to hit, but I still would have taken the same action to try and drop him. I didn't see a CMB roll from him with the bite, so I'm not sure if he succeeded or not.

@Monty: make sure to spend 2 ki points for the wholeness of body.

@Artimus: yea! That looks like a solid full-round maybe we get lucky on this one

Quandary, the way I read Nadeq's post, he first spoke in Goblin, and then tried to attract Chamomile's attention to use telepathy in Abyssal. Re-reading, I still don't think he was speaking in Abyssal.

Montague, how are you avoiding the Attack of Opportunity? Is there a Monk ability or a Feat you're using?

Artimus. Good job. (The extra damage from the critical: 1d8 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 points.)

Chamomile and Nadeq?

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

That's what the acrobatics check is for theres a set DC to spring up from prone and not give up an AoO. aT LAST THERE ALWAYS HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY.

How would an Acrobatics check allow Montegue to avoid the AoO? It determines the success people to cross narrow surfaces, move through threatened squares, jump high and avoid some of the damage of falls.

According to the PF Core book:

In addition, you can move through a threatened square without provoking an attack of opportunity from an enemy by using Acrobatics. When moving in this way, you move at half speed. You can move at full speed byincreasing the DC of the check by 10. You cannot use Acrobatics to move past foes if your speed is reduced due to carrying a medium or heavy load or wearing medium or heavy armor. If an ability allows you to move at full speed under such conditions, you can use Acrobatics to move past foes. You can use Acrobatics in this way while prone, but doing so requires a full-round action to move 5 feet, and the DC is increased by 5.

Rasina, yes, Acrobatis is the skill to use if a prone character wants to move 5 feet, while remaining prone, as a full-round action. I thought Montegue was trying to stand up, which provokes an AoO. Montegue, was I wrong? What square are you trying to enter?

Ah, I see now. This is what you want, Montague: Stand Up: Standing up from a prone position requires a move action and provokes attacks of opportunity. page 187 of PF Core book.

Mikka, unfortunately, there is no way for him to avoid the AoO.

Male Human Paladin 7

Using acrobatics to stand up from prone was something that was introduced in some of the complete books back in 3.5. I suspect its something most of us used in our games, but it was never core and thus not brought into pathfinder.

Sensing the others` worry about Artimus` situation, Cam decides to make himself as useful as possible...

Cam will first Delay until after Rasina can act, to allow her another Full Attack on the Kamadan.
Then he moves to O6, Flanking the Smilodon with Artimus (or O7 Flanking with Monty if that works better),
and attacks the Smilodon with his Sleep Stinger, Flanking, and Invisible:
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 for 1 dmg + Sleep effect (Fort DC 16).
GREAT! to confirm, if that means much with 1 dmg: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
(If the forest is difficult terrain for Cam that may be too far to move and attack, if so, target the Kamadan instead)

Rasina is surprised Chamomille stuck around, but she doesn't hesistate, she steps over to maintain the flank, and continues her attacks.

Full Attack on Kamadan,

MW rapier 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 13, damage 1d6 ⇒ 2, plus sneak attack, if applicable 3d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 3) = 12

Dagger +1 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 24, damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3, plus sneak attack, if applicable 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4) = 14

Hasted attack, MW rapier 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 17, damage 1d6 ⇒ 6, plus sneak attack if applicable 3d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 3) = 11

I added the +2 for flanking with Chamonille, so deduct 2 to the attack rolls if there is no flank. Also it takes 3 Bleed damage as well.

Male Human Priest (Dreamer); HP 32/32; MP 19/19; Dodge 70/35/14

Sorry guys. I guess I remembered this from something in 3.5, and we had just been using it in Pathfinder. If it's not possible to use acrobatics to move 5' and then stand up. Montague will just take the AoO. He will spend a Ki point to increase his AC by 4 however. QUESTION: Since Montague went unconscious, dose the haste spell still effect him?

Montague wrote:
QUESTION: Since Montague went unconscious, dose the haste spell still effect him?

I`m pretty sure he`s still Hasted, just as if he was Unconscious with Enlarge Person, the magic is still attached to him (though the duration gets used up while he`s knocked out). If he had any dreams, they may have been very very fast :-)

The haste spell is still in effect, yep. Actually dying and being brought back to life; that would negate the spell, but just dropping unconscious doesn't.

Montegue spends his ki point on AC, rather than healing (they're both swift actions). Montegue's AC is now 31, - 4 against melee attacks for being prone, yes?

Moving 5' to avoid the Attack of opportunity would be a full-round action. Montegue wouldn't be able to stand up till next round.

The smilodon attempts to bite Montegue as the monk struggles to stand, releasing Artimus from its grasp! Attack: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (19) + 18 = 37 ; 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (1, 4) + 8 = 13 Confirmation of critical 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 30 (If that's a hit, then add 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (2, 1) + 8 = 11 points of damage.)

Rasina, you don't have a flank with Chamomile, but between the dagger and the bleeding damage, the monster sinks to the ground, blood seeping out of the snakes' mouths.

Chamomile can either move through the forest, which is difficult terrain with all the trees, or else he can fly up 10', zip over the forest canopy, and drop down on the smilodon. Now, getting to O6 is a total of (10 + 50 + 10) = 70 feet of movement, which would be too much for the little guy, except that he's hasted and moves at 90 rather than 60.

The dire tiger (1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30 saves against the sleep easily. But it does take double damage. It's still up.

And Nadeq, it's obvious to you that

Spoiler:
the second dire tiger, the one in the ice storm, the one that Durnast mesmerized, has shaken off the effects of the hypnotic pattern. Spellcraft check to determine the reasons why.

Male Human Priest (Dreamer); HP 32/32; MP 19/19; Dodge 70/35/14

Man!!! Three Criticals out of the last four hits. Montague must have really PO'd the gods big time ;)

The pain of the beasts attacks almost paralyzed Montague, as his consciousness returned. The pain was intense, but his training allowed him to put it behind him, and try to help. He felt the magic of the quickening still in his blood, and summoned his inner force to help deflect the attacks of his foe.

These people had helped him. When his employer planted the seeds of self doubt in his head, he had put them aside on the surface, but they had caused him a great deal of thought and contemplation. But here were people who had no ties to him other than they were in the same place at the same time and they were trying to help him. He would not let them down.

Summoning his inner strength and acting without doubt for the first time in days, Montague attempted to rise to his feet...only to see his foe treat his defenses and skills like those of an infant. With a vicious bite the great beast tore into Montague's throat, shook him like a rag doll, and threw him from the immediate combat range. Montague lay on his side, unable to move his body from it's prone position as his life blood flowed out on the sand.

He was a failure. His employer was right. So full of self confidence. All the time he had spent training his body to be the ultimate fighting machine was all for naught. He hadn't even made his presence felt in the most important battle of his life. He had let down his parents whom believed in him so strongly, all the men who spent their lives training him, his employers and now his adventuring companions. He had let them all down. He was nothing. Then blessedly his vision narrowed to a tiny circle...then blinked out...and he was no more.

And yet, by his sacrifice, he's bought Artimus the freedom the paladin might need to act, so it might not be the mark of failure yet.

Nadeq?

The orc issues a silent command to the tiger, which goes unheeded. Presenting an expression of frustration, he looks straight at Artimus. He points to the paladin and then, in no uncertain terms, at the dire tiger over by Alia. He otherwise holds his action.

The giant beetle backs off 5' from Artimus. It's hard to read the expression of a creature botoxed by an enormous exoskeleton, and controlled by little more than a sequence of over-developed nerve ganglia, but it looks a little reluctant and pouty. It holds the rest of its action.

New Round
Rasina: Kills the Kamadan.
Chamomile: After Rasina acts, moves to the smilodon and stings it.
Veren: you're up
Male Human Reclaimer: stable.
Mikka: Make a Perception roll, please.
Durnast: Make a Perception roll, please.
Alia: Make either a Perception or Sense Motive roll, please.
Swiftpaws: still dying
Dire tigers: the one by Artimus and Veren has taken a number of attacks. The one by Alia is still only lightly injured.

Spoiler:
When the Kamadan's most recent sleep cloud faded, you and Alia were blinking and staggering to stand up straight. So was the dire tiger caught between you, and its eyes are now focused on Alia.

Seeing the dire tiger tear into Montague just as he had recovered, Veren screams with rage - both in anger, and in a desperate attempt to shift the tiger's attention to himself. Veren protectively stands over the monk's body (5ft step) - his rapier flashing out to lay low the beast.

No combat expertise or such like, just angry, brutal attacks.

Attack 1 1d20 + 15 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 15 + 2 + 1 = 25 damage 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

Female Human Ranger 7

Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Sense Motive 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

If Alia senses the tiger is focused on her, she lowers her bow and withdraws from it, keeping her eyes on the tiger to entice it to follow her.

Alia speed is 70 feet from the haste spell. So she will withdraw towards the west (if the map is oriented to the north) for 140 feet as per the withdraw action.

While she does that, she calls desperately to Mikka and Durnast. "I'm drawing the tiger to me. Someone help Swiftpaws, please, he is dying."

Male Human Paladin 7

Chris, I didn't see myself on that initiative. I know I'm at the bottom somewhere, just wanted to point out I got missed.

Is Swiftpaws a good aligned creature? If so Rasina can heal him with her Heavenly fire ability.

Nope, he is an animal companion so registers as neutral.

Sorry, old bean; your full attack and lay-on of hands to staunch some of your wounds was noted and tallied, but not acknowleged.

Veren's scream goes without effect, but his attacks all hit, slashing into the dire tiger again and again. The last one is enough to set the beast collapsing at -1 hit points. (Note to Chamomile: without your stinger attack, it would still be up and active!)

Yes, Alia can tell that the nearby dire tiger interpretted the kamadan's last act as an attack, which broke Durnast's spell. It took a round to reorient itself, but it's back to being big and nasty.

You can withdraw through difficult terrain without additional complication. The cat is a savage animal, working without any guidance, in an environment (ice storm, rainbow pattern, sleeping mists) which it really doesn't understand, which just makes it angrier; make either a Bluff check or an Intimidate check to keep its attention focused on you.

Rasina hears the cry of Alia, and her mind flashes back to what happened with Razorbeak, earlier. Not again she vows.

"I have this, Alia."

Next round action, take 5' step to D9, draw a potion of CSW, and pour it down Swiftpaws throat, assuming he is still alive.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 4

Mikka sees Alia drawing the smilodon, hears Rasinia's response and unleashes a flurry of flame at the smilodon. The animal was only doing what it would instictually but she would not see another of her allies die today.

And someone would pay dearly for Montague's death.

Full attack hasted with produce flame
Attack 1

Chamomile: After Rasina acts, moves to the smilodon and stings it.
Veren: Drops the dire tiger.
Human Reclaimer: stable.

Durnast: Casts glitterdust, making the tiger easier to see but1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 not blind.
Alia: withdraws to the west. She tries to keep the tiger's attention, but the other biped throwing fire at it is far more interesting.
Swiftpaws: still dying.
Dire tiger: decides to avoid the slushy terrain by jumping at Mikka. It needs to jump 10 feet, from a standing start. (Acrobatics: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20, which does the job.) It roars a tremendous bellow of pain and fury, and pounces:
Left claw: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (19) + 18 = 37; damage 2d4 + 8 ⇒ (4, 3) + 8 = 15
Right claw: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (19) + 18 = 37; damage 2d4 + 8 ⇒ (3, 2) + 8 = 13
Bite: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 30; damage 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (4, 5) + 8 = 17

And yes I know that random nuking is my signature tactic

Seeing Montague fall and lie still, then a moment later Mikka hitting the ground, Artimus' mouth moves in a shout, something that were it not for the cloud of silence surrounding him would offend most of the gods of good.

Then he see's Mikka's chest move as she gives a bloody cough and realizing that she is alive he reacts on instinct, turning and dashing towards her to come to stand over her body, bringing the blade down on the smilodon to pulls its attention from the downed druid.

If the beetle is up for taking one I'll provoke an attack of opportunity from it as I pass. Otherwise, I'm going to try and pull the Smilodon's attention. Hopefully it works. I don't quite trust my lay on hands to bring you up, Mikka if you are stable. If someone else isn't able to bring you up by next turn I'll give that a shot.

Chris, as nadeq has not posted for a while, can you have him dispel his silence, so that the half orc reclaimer can talk to the tiger

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

Wish I could. But Nadeq did not prepare dispel magic today. The spell on Artimus will have to run its course.

Chris, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Silence Dissmissable by the caster as a standard action?
From pg 216 of the Core book:
(D) Dismissible: If the duration line ends with “(D),” you can dismiss the spell at will. You must be within range of the spell’s effect and must speak words of dismissal, which are usually a modified form of the spell’s verbal component. If the spell has no verbal component, you can dismiss the effect with a gesture. Dismissing a spell is a standard action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

Hmm I see the flaw with this, as you need to be able to SPEAK, he he. But isn't Nadeq outside the spell effect?

Rasina Songhair wrote:

Hmmm. "Dismissible" is news to me.

Right before Chamomile's action, Nadeq backs up 5', to remove himself from Artimus' proximity, and dismisses the spell.

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15 The orc recognizes the spell that the goblin casts. He breaks his hold and calls out: "Tanada! Coruum del! Coruum!" Handle animal: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (6) + 14 = 20. The dire tiger appears startled to hear the orc's voice.

Veren decides to trust the orc. He moves to L5 and feeds the potion he got from the reclaimer to Mikka. This one probably isn't fortified, but it will have to do...

Hopefully a potion of cure light 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
