Shaundakul |
Since we're pretty warrior heavy, I've decided to amend my concept. I am now going to do a Cleric/Windwalker of Shaundakul, though my first level will be as a ranger in order to get the appropriate class skills for the prestige class. I should have a character posted late tonight or sometime tomorrow.

And the gold question was answered. So, on to completion (I hope :) ).

Huergar |
Dragonborn: A background is helpful, for future plots I may use for the character. I already have two plots ready to go for characters with backgrounds, and a third plot I'm working on for another.
Just in case you missed it, when I completed Huergar, I also replaced his sketchy background with a more complete background. Hope it's helpful.
DM_Darkmeer |
I did miss it, thanks for letting me know Huergar is ready.
I have started a discussion thread for the campaign here..
Once your character is ready, let me know in that thread, and we'll keep most of the banter out to that thread once we're ready to go.
Thanks,

Okay folks,
I've edited the campaign standards slightly (see my profile), and I am looking for two players, both 9th level.
Specifically, I would like to see a Rogue (as close to pure rogue as you can get), and a pure arcane caster of the Sorcerer or Wizard type.
Any interest?
Also, if you would like, you may take the role of Kane Toscobble, or Onyx Ironhands to go forward with the campaign. We've had our cleric return to us, and I'm in favor of keeping him, but if there is a third player interested in playing a cleric, I will allow that as well.
Current party location is Sigil, and, given that, the best route to having assistance for the party would be to be part of the Sons of Mercy, a group of do-gooder paladins and other like-minded folk trying to keep Sigil safe AND help others in need. If you aren't interested in this, you are welcome to be a stranded character from the prime material world of Abeir-Toril, who just happens to run into the other characters trying to find a way home. I can tie more of this into the campaign as interest is given, but that is up to you.
Interested? Post here with a concept (place the concept in a spoiler please). I'd like to have everyone ready by Friday if possible.

I'm surprised you haven't been flooded with applications so far! I'm very interested, so I'll also have a good read through the thread when I get home to get up to speed.
I have a hankering to try a Mystic Theurge, although that doesn't really fit the pure arcane caster role you want. If you'd be prepared to accept that, I'll write up a concept in the next day or so.

No worries. An arcane caster/Divine Caster hybrid would be welcome. Having an arcane caster with at least 3rd level spells (or borderline 4th level spells) would be fine with me :)

I've got the chargen info from your profile, can I just check a couple of things:
- I spotted a couple of non-PF feats on other people's sheets. Are they allowed and do you have restrictions on number/source? I was thinking of Practised Caster to help offset low caster level. I've never really played any 3.5 with anything other than the core books but I have CArcane and CDivine if it's worth skimming them for inspiration?
- is there a gold allowance for goodies?
- can you point me to a source for the pantheon you are using so I can choose a deity
DM_Darkmeer |
Yes, Practised spellcaster is allowed, but it only affects one caster type per feat (i.e. only 1 arcane casting class with one feat, and a divine class or secondary arcane class with the second feat, etc.).
Either of the complete books would be fine, just double check with me before choosing feats. I don't allow the Collegiate Wizard or Precocious apprentice feats from later in the Complete Arcane, but otherwise go ahead and check.
Gold allowance is in the PFRPG core rulebook, page 399 (46,000 GP for level 9).
Since this is a game with PC's from the Forgotten Realms, I would prefer that. Azuth or Mystra would be great choices for a mystic Theurge, as would a few others depending on the race of your character.
grufflehead |
Great, thanks for all that. I was thinking of a halfling (one of my ideas for backstory based on what I've read in the thread and other character bios) but I haven't decided for definite.
I've got a list of FR deities and their domains so I'll have a scan through and pick something (hopefully) appropriate.

OK, here goes with a little story...
...or He Who Poketh His Nose In Where It Doth Not Belong Should Expect to Have It Tweaked – a cautionary tale in 3 parts
Part the 1st
There once was a man, a wizard actually. Well, an evil wizard if you *must* know. We shan't mention his name here because they say he has a nasty habit of appearing when you speak it – so let's not take any chances. Anyway, as evil wizards are won't to do, as he got older, he turned his eye to extending his life so he could keep being eviller for longer. And so he researched, and researched, until he hit on the solution. Liches? Boring! Demi-liches were the future. So he collected all the things he needed, went to his lab and started his foul ritual. It was just after the point that he'd cut his own head off and had his Unseen Servant seal it in a glass case that he realised he'd made a terrible mistake. That plus sign should have been a minus in the formula and now...now he was a head, trapped in a glass box like a goldfish at the county fare! How all the other evil wizards would cackle if they could see him now. And so he waited, and stewed. For quite some time, in fact.
Part the 2nd
If there's one thing guaranteed to attract the attentions of, ahem, 'acquisition specialists', it's an empty house. And if it was formerly occupied by a reclusive scholar then so much the better. And so, a group of individuals decided it might be worth their while to investigate said house. There was a rogue, and a fighter, and a cleric, but what they really needed was a wizard, so after a bit of searching they found Frederick Thistledown esq, 'Fluffy' to his friends. Now Fluffy was a clever chap, and while breaking into people's houses wasn't his sort of thing (because that would usually lead to stealing, and his mother always told him only bad little halflings steal things), at the mention of 'scholar' he couldn't help himself – he was, dear reader, something of a scholar himself, you see – so he agreed to go along. Everything went fine as the group entered the house, and Fluffy was soon poring over musty tomes in the old library. Which meant he was well out of harm's way when the golem guardian squished the fighter, the rogue was blown to atoms trying to pry open a strong box lid, and the cleric, thinking discretion was the better part of it by this point, forgot where the rogue had marked the pressure pad in the front hall, and, well, let's just be glad this isn't a picture book, OK?
Fluffy, deciding to look further, opened a door and came face to face with....a head in a box. Scary! And worse, when he looked into those...horrible...red...eyes... Despite being a brave and strong willed soul, poor Fluffy was no match for the fiendish wizard, who mesmerised him, found out all about him – the fact he was a priest who had been on a sabbatical to the wizards' college, and was now eagerly expanding his knowledge wherever he could find books to do so – and soon had him under his control. In truth, if the wizard had been alive, he might have done all sorts of unpleasant things to our hero, but when you are a head in a box your options are a little more limited. He had, however, been plotting and scheming over the years, and rather than annihilate the halfling he saw an opportunity to get himself out of his current predicament. He might be able to construct a new body for himself, but he would need things for a new formula. Magical and rare things. And who better to get them for him than an inquisitive halfling? So he cast a powerful geas on Fluffy, the gist of which was 'find stuff and bring it back to me'. Then he made him forget all about it, and sent him on his way, even giving him a few choice goodies from his own stock of treasures to help keep him alive. And so for the last few years, Fluffy has been seeking out groups of adventurers, offering his services, and taking the chance to acquire rare, valuable, magical and otherwise unusual trinkets to take back to his 'master'. He periodically returns to the old house; the geas is such that he thinks he is going to his favourite tavern while he is there.
Part the 3rd
Not too long ago, Fluffy had found himself in Sigil. With all the factions there, he had been drawn to a collection of goodly souls, one of whom had found him wandering dangerously close to a bad part of town. Over a drink, the fellow mentioned that they'd recently set another stranger on the right road, and introduced him to a cleric by the name of Corvax. Nice gent, seemed to get into a lot of fights judging by his face and armour. To cut a long story short, Corvax said he was just about to meet up with some old adventuring buddies, at which point Fluffy's geas exerted its pull, and he found himself offering his services as the group were, apparently, a little short on arcane power. He did wonder what he was letting himself in for when his first sight of his new 'companions' was engaged in a pitched battle in the street with a group of celestials, but by this point there was nothing he could do about it....
Crunchy stuff
I'm going for a halfling Wizard (Transmuter) 3 Cleric 3 Mystic Theurge 3
Haven't settled on a god yet, or some of the other stuff, but he'll be LG or NG, and once I've looked over other PCs I plan on trying to fill in any gaps (skillwise) that I can via traits (and maybe choice of deity). Feats wise, I'll take Practised Caster twice (is that possible? Once for each class?) so he'll have breadth of casting rather than depth, but with a decent caster level. I'll plan my spell lists to try and complement our existing casters – other option might be Abjurer but I generally reckon Transmutation is a more flexible school.
Khamulio |
I'm definately interested. I've been looking to try Play by Post, especially PF since I am looking to start of a game of my own soon.
Looks like you still need a rogue? I'm you're huckleberry!
As soon as I get confirmation from you, I'll generate my character and send it to you for your approval. I'm looking forward to this!

DM_Darkmeer |
Grufflehead, go ahead and make your concept up. Remember that the GP limit on a SINGLE ITEM is 20,000 GP. Outside of that, I'll be glad to see you. Go over to the Discussion thread once the character is ready and post there for my final approval.
A pure rogue, Khamulio? I'm welcoming to new PbP players. Remember, the pacing is different than real life, and PLEASE, PLEASE tell me if you'd like to leave. I'm open to that, but I want to keep lag as short as possible.
Stratos: Given that I'll welcome Greene back into the fold, it would be unfair to not allow you into the game if you're interested?
Greene? Do you really want back in the game? If so, you're welcome to come back.
I'll post again sometime later this morning, once people have replied.

Yes, I'd like to fill the rogue role. Never played one before (but have had plenty in groups I've DMed). I'll write my concept and send you my character later today.

DM_Darkmeer |
Yes, I've been following along and I think Sigil is just the place for a wayward tiefling paladin to find himself.
Will do. I'll cogitate on how to get him back into the group, likely going to end up meeting at the Smoldering corpse. Perhaps you'll be bringing along Khamulio's character (an assist, I've got an idea regarding Kane and Sunaj).
I'll reply after I get off of work to this thread on what happened (since Greene was last seen on Toril).

Excellent. I hope to see that later on tonight when I reply for Greene. We'll hold off introductions (as he'll likely be coming from Toril to Sigil with Greene).
There's a couple of ideas I've got here, so I want to make sure that everyone's happy with the way to bring the group together.... even if it's bringing them together in a relatively famous tavern.
Greene Tanache |
Well, shoot again. I already slipped Greene in at the Smoldering Corpse. But I did leave it pretty vague how he got there, so I think it's possible for you to still fill in the blanks and who traveled along with him. I'd like to avoid accidental planar shift though, if I can. I think Corvax already took that one and meeting the group again in the pub is more than enough coincidence for me.
Greene Tanache |
No accidental planeshift for me. I entered Sigil with the rest of the group. Just got sidetracked slightly and teamed up with the Sons of Mercy for a few days.
Who was it that touched something and ended up fighting a spiker in the alley? Or am I confusing games again(it does tend to happen)?

I am indeed interested. I know you were asking for a rogue, though it seems we have someone willing to take that role. What role would you like me to perform?
As for PBP experience, I did a Korvosa Edge of Anarchy PBP with Terranova from August 2008-September 2009.
DM_Darkmeer |
Stratos,
You have a bit of free reign, as the other "roles" have been filled. Pick something you want to play, and run with it. Although the "fighter" role is well taken care of at this point, so I may hedge you away from that one.
Greene, I'll be posting an idea or two for you once I get the chance to think (long day at work).

Khamulio & Stratos: I'll be offline from 8:00 AM Central US time tomorrow until about 9:00 PM or so (depends on how quickly I get kids to sleep). Anyhoo, I'll try to pop in if either of you get something in by then in the morning or evening. I'm shooting for both of you to be in by Sunday if possible (as it's easier to bring people together in Sigil than anywhere else in the next section of the adventure).
Hope to see both of your concepts soon :)

Jasper Krail - Part 1:
Jasper loved to travel. When he was a young boy, he remembered riding in trading caravans with his parents. His father, an human artisan eking out a living with his Elven wife, provided them with a stable existence. However, his wares’ sales waned one season, so he had to make farther and farther ventures to reach buyers. Though it escaped his mind due to his youth, Jasper remembered travelling to a town known for its business – and thievery. While the goods were perfectly fine one night, Jasper was not; out of his parents’ eyes for just a minute, he blacked out.
Awakening, he found himself in a caravan – but it was not his own. A human child was next to him, awakening then as well. Their terror built upon itself, and they started to cry uncontrollably. From an entrance in the front, a figure in a dark gray robe with a hood held them each up by one hand. “Quiet, brats, or do I need to put you out again?!” They could see the club fastened by his belt. Though still sobbing, they stopped wailing, and the man dropped them, heading back to the front, a drape covering his passage.
The caravan was covered, though there were holes in the sides. The children peered out, realizing the ground actually looked rather lush. Talking things over between sobs, Jasper and the other boy – Brennel – decided they had to escape to find their parents. Brennel’s situation was much like Jasper’s; though he showed only human lineage, the boy had come with his father on a trading trip.
The boys decided to take their chance. Grabbing a knife sitting atop one of the crates littering their wagon, Brennel split open the covering on the side. When it was large enough a hole for them to slip through, he jumped. Jasper was terrified, but he followed suit moments later. The fall was long for them at their age, but no bones were broken. Fortunately, they were the last cart of the caravan – there were a handful of others in front of them though.
Seeing a rather inviting-looking town, the boys took off towards it. Not as close as it seemed, the town took them a few hours to reach, the sun well setting by the time they reached the gates. Not yet closed, the guard still asked the young children what they were doing alone. After their story, he entered the town with them and shut the gates. Arriving at what they would later learn to be a widow’s market, the man knocked on the door and had them recount their story to her before returning to his post. She took them in.
Part 2:
She cared for them well. Over the next 13 years, Jasper developed into a beautifully talented young man while Brennel grew into an emerging adult with an impressive physique. His muscles not only earned him the respect of the town guards and hired hands, but they also got him Jasper’s jealousy. Brennel was bigger and stronger, getting the attention of many girls at a glance. He never stayed with any for long. Jasper, on the other hand, was a very romantic young man. His Elven heritage gave him an effeminate overtone – not popular in the town. His skilled voice and dance did gain some attention, but the envy prevailed.
One day, a traveling group of minstrels came to the town. Awestruck by their performance, he learned by chatting with them they were taking new additions. Jumping on the opportunity, Jasper bade Syreena and Brennel farewell; even though he and his pseudo-brother were rivals in a sense, they were still on good terms with each other. Just before leaving, Syreena gave him one of her marvelous loaves of bread along with a ring her husband used to wear; it looked as if it were copper but had no tarnish, and a small tigerseye cut in a triangle was set in the center.
Learning much about the ways of performing, talking, swindling, in the troupe, Jasper longed to use his talent for something more meaningful. He had been to many dicey towns where his street fighting skills were more needed than his singing voice. Nakom, a performer-protector of the troupe, taught Jasper how to use a whip with an expert’s touch – in more ways than one. Over the years, they developed a duality in their relationship. The sexual components and trainer-student components blended together at times, but when neither area ensued, the men never saw each other. In fact, the women Jasper saw on the side from town to town never saw the two of them.
After a few years on the job though, Jasper felt a lack of meaning to his life. While he often lived in the moment, his mind kept coming back to Syreena and Brennel. In time, he felt as if he’d lost a family – a second family! Like a rushing stream, the memories of his parents became fresh to him. He missed feeling safe and loved, something the troupe didn’t provide. When the Sons of Mercy’s herald preached a message of their purpose in the town the troupe came to one day, he felt compelled to join them. While he was a weak as a protector – even though his whip stung like lightning – his song could boost nearly any spirit, and if others’ spirits were like his at the moment, they needed boosting. And maybe from the City of Doors he could find one of his families again…
