There is no action indicated for this ability, which would then default it to a Standard action, however I suspect (but not 100% sure) it was intended to be an Immediate or Swift action.

Artifice Domain - Dancing Weapons

This indicates the duration to be 4 rounds, where-as all the other 8th level domain abilities that bestow special weapon properties are based on 1 round per 1/2 cleric level.

I suspect this is an error, so I thought I should mention it.

Destruction Domain - Destructive Aura

This power states: "At 8th level, you can emit a 30-foot aura of destruction for a number of rounds per day equal to your cleric level. All attacks made against targets in this aura (including you) gain a morale bonus on damage equal to 1/2 your cleric level and all critical threats are..."

I find the phrase "all attacks made against targets in the aura" to be quite confusing. Does the enemy have to be in aura? Is the reference to targets for allies or enemies?

I suspect that both the allies and the enemies have to be in the aura so then I guess it should read: "At 8th level, you can emit a 30-foot aura of destruction for a number of rounds per day equal to your cleric level. All attacks made by you and your allies within this aura against enemies also within this aura, gain a morale bonus on damage equal to 1/2 your cleric level and all critical threats are..."

"It retains any class features (other than spellcasting) that aren’t extraordinary, supernatural, or spell-like abilities."

If you make the Will save, you lose Spellcasting AND Ex, Su, and Sp abilities of class.

So you only retain any ability that is a natural ability?

There are no class abilities that are natural abilities.

Is it supposed to be "are" instead of "aren't"?

Why write it using additional words if that is true? Why didn't it just say
"You lose all class features except BAB, HP, saves."

I'm still a bit confused myself about the intent of the Vital Strike chain of feats.

The feat states that Strength, weapon abilities (such as flaming) and precision damage (such as sneak attack) are not multiplied.

But what about the weapon training damage bonus for fighters, damage bonus from weapon specialization and enhancement bonuses on the weapon?

If the intent of the feats are to only add more damage dice and nothing else, the feats should state this clearly - instead of listing a few things that aren't included, which leaves the rest open to interpretation.

Well the feat is quite clear about weapon specialization, weapon training and enchantment bonuses, because the feat says roll damage dice twice. Specialization etc. doesn't add any dice, so it's clear that you don't multiply them. Weapon abilities (such as flaming) do add dice, but the feat says that you don't add any dice from weapon abilities etc. The feat adds only more weapon damage dice and it states it quite clearly in second sentence IMO.

There are class abilities that are natural, for example the rogues sneak attack or trapfinding class features because they are not Ex, Su, or Sp.

From PRG p.221 "Natural Abilities: This category includes abilities a creature has because of its physical nature. Natural abilities are those not otherwise designated as extraordinary, supernatural, or spell-like."

But one can argue about the "...physical nature." - part...

Not to be a downer, but all this errata has me questioning whether to skip the first printing and wait for the second.
Has anyone found the errors to be overwhelming, or possibly game-breaking? A few slight errors can be expected and overlooked, but I am a little disappointed by the amount turning up.

If I do wait for the second printing, how long is it before the next run?

The errata in this thread is not (yet) official.

I'm loving my book now, so if you want to wait until November(ish), that would obviously be your call, but I haven't seen anything that's game-breaking. It's all little stuff.

And many of this errata are just misunderstandings rather than actual errors in the rules. You really shouldn't make your shopping decisions based on this thread. I don't mean to be harsh, but many of these posts aren't errata at all, yet alone official. I like this thread though, here's lots of posts with good insight, but I wouldn't call it errata.

The second printing will not be available until November, it's looking like.

As for the errata... as Editor-in-Chief, I'm distressed by ANY error, but frankly and honestly, there's not really anything in this game's errata I've seen yet that ruins the game. Frankly, if you look at it as about a page of errata, that more or less means that the book itself is, what, about 99.8% accurate? Even if we drop that .8% and go with 99% correct, I'd say that's pretty good. Certainly a higher score than I ever got in college on a test (except for ONE entomology final on which I got a 100%, I guess).

The PFRPG is a huge and dense book, is what I'm saying, and to be honest, getting all of the tiny little errors (the majority of which, like italicized commas and widows & orphans and the like are unlikely to be noticed as errors by the majority of readers) fixed is, frankly, close to impossible.

That said, if you can wait until November, then that printing of the book WILL have the errata in it. Of course... the third printing will have even more, and so on.

But frankly, all of the errata's so minor that, if your game's like the games I run, those errors will be FAR overshadowed by errors that creep in during game play (such as forgetting about the gibbering mouther's spittle attack for a round or two, as happened to me last Thursday).

EDIT: All of which is, basically, me saying "If you are waiting for an errata-free game book, you'll be saving a lot of money." :-)


I'm fine with the hardcopy I have, but would like to see the errata PDF updated early and often. Players notes on omissions/typos/requests for clarification have been flying in multiple threads.

Some of those questions have been answered in-thread (although since I don't know many names/aliases, I can't always tell when the answer comes from a game designer or just another player) but I haven't seen a PDF update after the initial posting...nor an answer to my question about the 5 HD creatures on the Detect Evil table.

I'd rather see the PDF updated than get a personal on-thread response; that way the answer is in one place instead of one-of-many threads.


The Pathfinder Core Rulebook can't seem to decide whether -5 is less than or greater than -10. For example, the last sentence on page 189 is:

Quote:
If your hit point total is negative, but not equal to or greater than your Constitution score, you're dying.

But the first sentence under "Dead" on page 190 is:

Quote:
When your character's current hit points drop to a negative amount equal to his Constitution score or lower, or if he succumbs to massive damage, he's dead.

The latter is mathematically correct (i.e. -5 is greater than -10), but the former is used much more often in the book.


On page 191, the last sentence of "Recovering with Help" says:

Quote:
He automatically regains consciousness when his hit points rise to 1 or higher.

Shouldn't that be "0 or higher"? All previous rules consistently state that a character at 0 hit points is conscious and disabled.

Two points, this is unofficial errata and WotC has just as many if not more needed errata in the last printing of 3.5.

The key point is whether or not Paizo will clarify their points (unlike WotC) or leave things ambiguous (like WotC.)

I've been compiling a list (currently over 800 entries) of errata deserving ambiguities in various WotC 3.5 (and a few 3.0) publications.

Out of all the mistakes that have been made in the Rulebook, there is nothing in terms of solid rules that I can't figure out for myself.

Thanks for the clarification. I completely understand that any system with so many if/then rules, some small amount of error will creep in.
The idealist in me wants to wait for the 'perfectest' copy, but the gamer in me wants it now.
Everyone is correct, the errors are minor and I won't let them ruin anything for me.

I will get down out of my tree now. ;)

This is a good thread folks. I am going to be combing through here for clarifications on a relatively regular basis.

Note that the current errata covers a few of these issues. In addition, you should check the most current PDF. There are a few changes in there that were so minor that we did not list them in the first update.

No information on what happens if a barbarian goes lawful.


I probably just missed this...

The spellcasting classes list several spell-like abilities as part of the 1st level of domains/bloodlines/schools (Example: artificer's touch from the Artifice domain.) I cannot find mention of what their spell level would be for the purposes making of concentration checks.

There's a problem in the PDF that's not in the hard cover. Under animal feats for the animal companion rules, weapon finesse is not listed in the PDF, but is in the hard cover.


The description for elves does not mention that elves do not sleep. I assume that elves in Pathfinder still do not sleep, since they still get immunity to magical sleep effects.

Unclear wording in the Glitterdust spell.
Does the spell allow two save the first round if the foe's turn is after the spellcaster's.
The preview indicated you only get one save per round.


Creating Magic Weapons page 551:
Creating magic double-headed weapons is treated as creating two weapons when determining cost, time, XP, and special abilities.
- There no longer is an XP cost creating items.

That's actually correct, the elves in PFRPG are sleepy-sleepy !


I suspect this is an errata.
Spring Attack seem to indicate you don't have to use Acrobatics ever again if you move through a threatened area so long as you attack the foe, even if you start adjacent to the foe or even if you move into or out of a large or huge creature's threatened area. No AoO, neither when entering nor when you leave the threatened area.

Nope. Increasing the DC of a check makes it harder to succeed.


Under Dragon Disciple it reads (emphasis mine):

Blood of Dragons: A dragon disciple adds his level to his sorcerer levels when determining the powers gained from his bloodline. If the dragon disciple does not have levels of sorcerer, he instead gains bloodline powers of the draconic bloodline, using his dragon disciple level as his sorcerer level to determine the bonuses gained. He must choose a dragon type upon gaining his first level in this class and that type must be the same as his sorcerer type. This ability does not grant bonus spells to a sorcerer unless he possesses spell slots of an appropriate level. Such bonus spells are automatically granted if the sorcerer gains spell slots of the spell's level.

What does this the powers gained from his bloodline and bloodline powers refer to? Only Bloodline Powers from the draconic bloodline sorcerer, or Bonus Spells in addition to the Bloodline Powers, or Bonus Feats and Bonus Spells in addition to the Bloodline Powers.

In 3.x, this was true.

In PRPG, this has been changed.

You can find it in various places:

Page 21:
"Defensive Training: Dwarves get a +4 dodge bonus to AC against monsters of the giant subtype."

Page 64:
"Ranger Favored Enemies Table:
Type (Subtype)
Humanoid (Giant)"

Page 289:
"Giant Body I:
When you cast this spell you can assume the form of any Large humanoid creature of the giant subtype (see the Pathfinder RPG Bestiary)."

Plus, the Pathfinder Bestiary Preview has a small legend (Monster Icons) on page 8, which shows all the types of creatures of the game. Giant is no more among them (as well as Elemental, which has become a subtype too).


Speaking of Giants and Elementals, these are other things I noticed in the manual:

Handle Animal, page 97:
"Normally, an animal will attack only humanoids, monstrous humanoids, giants, or other animals."
But now Giants are a subtype of the Humanoid type.

Antilife Shell, page 242:
"The effect hedges out animals, aberrations, dragons, fey, giants, humanoids, magical beasts, monstrous humanoids, oozes, plants, and vermin, but not constructs, elementals, outsiders, or undead."
Same as above, plus now Elementals are a subtype of the Outsider type.

Another change (sorry if this has been posted already):

In Chapter 4: Feats (pg. 112), the DC to craft a magic item is 10 + the item's caster level. In Chapter 15: Magic Items (pg. 548), the DC is listed as 5 + the item's caster level.

I'm under the impression that the latter is correct, as that is what it was under Beta. This hasn't been addressed in the errata yet, so I thought I'd get an official ruling.

Was it intentional to remove these three 3.5 rules all on DMG p29:

1) "Tiny, Diminutive, and Fine creatures have no natural reach ... unless they are armed with weapons that give them at least 5 feet ... some may carry reach weapons that do threaten adjacent squares."

2) "Any time more than one allied creature occupies an opponent’s space ... the allied creatures provide each other with the benefit of flanking"

3) "If a creature occupies part of an opponent’s space, it provides flanking to all allied creatures outside the opponent’s space"

In PRPG Tiny (or smaller) creatures can no longer:

1) Provide a Flanking bonus for anyone else.

2) Take AoO or attack adjacent squares.

They can gain some back with the new Lunge feat, they can gain Flanking bonuses if they are opposite a creature an ally threatens but they can not provide flanking to that ally. They can't take AoO with Lunge, as it isn't their turn. They can attack adjacent squares during their turn.

I believe the Magic Items chapter is correct and the DC should be 5 + caster level, but I am still looking into the issue. Either way, this will be corrected.

Just the abilities listed under Bloodline Powers in each Bloodlines description. In addition, you gain the bloodline spells if you have levels of sorcerer and the appropriate slots available to you. You gain the feats at the rate indicated by the pclass.

2 separate items, both on p. 323

Plant Shape I - Medium plant grants a +2 enhancement bonus to constitution instead of a +2 size bonus to constitution like all of the other bonuses from the various polymorph spells.

Polymorph, Greater - the spell description states that it functions as polymorph except that it allows the creature to take on the form of a dragon or plant creature. Then it describes how if you use the spell to cause the target to take the form of an animal of magical beast, it works as beast shape IV. However, the polymorph spell does not allow taking the form of a magical beast, so technically, neither does polymorph, greater. The first line of the description should be changed to say that it allows the creature to take on the form of a magical beast, dragon, or plant creature.

P. 332 - reincarnation table. This still lists the old ability score modifiers for half-elf and half-orc, even though they now get the same +2 to any one ability score like humans.

Also, for both raise dead and reincarnation, they state that a character brought back to life by those spells gains 2 permanent negative levels, unless they're 1st level, in which case they lose 2 points of constitution. What happens if they're 2nd level? If they gain 2 permanent negative levels, don't they then instantly die, since they have negative levels equal to their HD? I would assume that a 2nd level character brought back by one of these spells would gain 1 permanent negative level and lose 1 point of constitution, but per RAW, you shouldn't use these spells on 2nd level characters.

p. 378 for the assassin prestige class. The alignment description reads:

Alignment: Due to its necessary selfishness and callous indifference toward taking lives, the assassin class attracts those with evil alignments more than any others. Because the profession requires a degree of selfdiscipline, chaotic characters are ill suited to becoming
these shadowy killers. Neutral characters sometimes become assassins, frequently thinking of themselves as simple professionals performing a job, yet the nature of their duties inevitably pushes them toward an evil alignment."

However, the requirements list "Alignment: Any evil."

From the description, it certainly sounds like the intent was to allow for neutral assassins, but, if that is the case, the requirements should be changed to "Alignment: any non-good"


p 559 "Dark Reaver Power"

Although it sounds cooler, it is "Dark Reaver Powder." It is wrong in the table, but correct in the description.


page 293/294: Halt Undead is out of order. It should come between Hallucinatory Terrain and Harm.

p. 389, the Pathfinder Chronicler seems to be missing a Weapon and Armor Proficiency entry.


it appears that the scimitar, while being listed under the weapons table, has no text entry in the following pages. does it still allow weapon finesse use with it like the rapier?

It never did.


I believe I have found an error on p. 203. The last sentence under Distracting Spellcasters reads as follows:

Quote:
If you damage the spellcaster, she may lose the spell she was trying to cast(as determined by her Spellcraft check result).

I believe that instead of calling for a Spellcraft check, this should be a concentration check.
