Err... I don't know what this tells about you, Todd... I kind of expected Pett or Logue to come up with something like this -- or, actually, those two would probably say "ME WANT EAT NEW GNOME!" or "ARRRGGHHH! ISN'T THAT HALFLING A TASTY MORSEL OR WHAT?!? LOTSA BLOOD TO SUCK WITH MY TENDRILS!". ;P
No, I think they'd rather play with the larger human or half-orc. The gnome and halfling are so small, they don't produce as much blood splatter and gore. That half-orc's big enough you could coat an entire 30x30 room with it's blood, brains, and other squishy bits.

You're probably right, but I'm fairly sure that both of them can only move 20 ft. per round, so a human or a half-orc could outrun them. Assuming, naturally, that they didn't manage to ambush their victims.

Cayden tap-dancing Cailean, if I'd known all it would take to get Epic Meepo to release Seoni was to show him some unnamed half-elven hotty, I'd have done it months ago.

I'm calling the rescue mission off. All Badgers, Ghouls, Bears with Fricken Laser Beam Eyes, and Unspeakable Horrors from the Beyond Reality may call it a day.

On track with the actual post - maybe favored classes have been dropped completely? I can't imagine it would be left out of the chart.

Thanks for the preview.

Looking through the contents I didn't find anything about Multi-classing.Will it be addressed in this book. As for the artwork I think it's great.

James Jacobs wrote:
It's interesting to see folks now saying they preferred the original artwork, but not all that surprising. I liked the original as well. I like this version better, but still. That original piece of artwork had more complaints about it than pretty much any other piece of art we've published under Pathfinder, which is vexing as well because we've published a LOT worse! :P

I've always been a big fan of the old racial line-up. One of my other players has been pretty negative about it, but she's one of the pickiest, most opinionated people I know that I can actually get along with. But I've liked that racial line-up since I saw it in the Alpha, and was always fond of the personalities that the pictures had.

These, overall, just seem blander and/or grouchier - the human woman looks angry, not happy like the original, the half orc looks confused rather than sad (which is probably acceptable), the gnome looks scary and ugly rather than playful and cute, the halfling looks cranky or put out, rather than kind of mild, the dwarf looks dull and disinterested, rather than friendly and boisterous, and the elf looks angry and pissy, rather than haughty and aloof. I get a similar-ish vibe from the half-elf as I did from the old one, though I did appreciate that the original half-elf had short hair, so that there was one female character without long hair.

I dunno. I mean, obviously I can't change it, and the rendering is very well done overall. It's just the personalities are all lost, and these are not people I'd want to hang out with, unlike the last group. I knew the art was going to change, but I'm sad to see it change to this.

On a different topic, I am sad that, from what I've gathered, you didn't commission new art for the iconics. I wasn't expecting you to replace them or anything, but I was hoping that we'd get newer art of them. In the launch product, I was really wanting to see a new picture of Seoni, rather than the same one we've been seeing for two solid years.

I like the new art. Including the new gnome, who looks very fey to me. Not that I remember ever seeing a piece of gnome art from Paizo that I didn't like, mind you...

Because you asked so nicely - which you didn't, but I'm trying to make a point here - I'll give it a race-by-race comparison:

# Dwarf: Like the new one better. The race is finally out of its diapers, and the look on the old one's expression made me think that he has to register when he wants to move somewhere and get his choice of residence approved by the authority
# Halfling: No strong feelings one way or the other.
# Elf: I think I liked the old one better, actually. The new one's expression is far too sour.
# Human: Again, I like both.
# Gnome: I think I like the old one so much better. The new one's not bad as such, but the face doesn't say gnome to me.
# Half-Orc: Both good, but the old one's better.
# Half-Elf: Much prefer the new one. The old one had a weird hair-do. Reminded me of, I don't know, one of those dogs with hair covering their eyes. The new one reminds me of Olivia Wilde (13 from House)

Generally, I like both pictures.

Dwarf looks awesome of course...

Elf looks sour... appropriate...let's face it they are a sour people...
elf and half orc still not packing... but then we all already knew that...

Halfling... packing MORE than the elf...
Gnome is checking out the human's butt...

Half-Orc looks like a diseased plant creature...

I like both pictures equally well... prefer the old gnome... loose the elves all together and the game would be better off...

Krome wrote:

Check again and zoom in on her eyes. No wonder the half-orc looks so befuddled.

So to summarize:

Gnome is checking out the half-orc's package.
Halfling's looking at the gnome, pissed that the only gal his size class is fawning over the tallest guy in the room.
The human is either checking out the half-orc's pecs or the half-elf.
The half-elf is checking out the viewer.
The half-orc is wondering where he is and what's going on.
The dwarf is looking off in the distance because he doesn't have time for all the drama that's bound to ensue.
And the elf looks rather sulky because of his lack of privates.

I kid of course. ;)

(like both the old and new gnome about equally, personally)

Man, if I was able to make it to Paizocon I'd have paid one of my friends to mass-produce her foot-long elf-ears* so I could hand 'em out. Fight the hate!

And yes, spoil-sports, she made them originally for a WoW costume. But, she does really dig Pathfinder's art. That and she was a fan of Lodoss Wars before WoW, so HA!

We're just happy they're not sticking out sideways anymore.

Well, despite the fact that Erik Mona and Jason Bulmahn are posting on another thread on this topic, this one has James Jacobs posting on it, so must be the 'real' thread. :)

A couple of thoughts:
1) As Mad Alchemist already observed on one of the other threads, the Shadow Dancer prestige class is apparently now five pages long. either it has some crazy abilities, or they forgot to mention something in the chapter after it on the contents page.
2) The Cleric, Druid, and Wizard sections are longer than I would have otherwise expected... Domains and School powers have perhaps been folded into these sections, along with the bloodlines which were already in the sorcerer section?

Fine... I cannot resist. The ToC refers to the first page of the chapter, which might not necessarily come right after the last page of the previous chapter...

...Hmmm... Splash art maybe?

Either way, I'm in the PF old skool team. I prefered the playtest art as it was a much needed break from the (somewhat boring) stereotypical modern fantasy artwork.

Not that I'm saying the new art is badly painted - it's just not my 'taste'.

EDIT: The page layout design is awesome though!

Cheers! :D

Note that the playtest art is a collection of stuff from various other PF products, with only a few really new items.

The racial picture is from PF #4 (I think), where there was a short gazetteer, and was later used in the Gazetteer

Hang on a sec - was she named Thirteen, or was it a designation on a scale of one to ten, ten being the highest?

Or was it a reference to her becoming the Thirteenth iconic?

Well if we are going down that path:

Pathfinder RPG: The Low Road
Pathfinder RPG: The High Road
Pathfinder RPG: GPS (Game Positioning System)
Pathfinder RPG: The Fork in the Path
Pathfinder RPG: Scenic Detours

Hmm, honestly the Low Road sounds like a Rogue sourcebook, and the High Road sounds like a Paladin sourcebook. The rest sound like I haven't had enough sleep...

I much, much, much prefer the new art over the playtest art. Whereas I acknowledge the high quality of the art in both cases, I greatly prefer the new art style over the weird style used in the playtest documents.

A good one, Mairkurion! And this verse from the acclaimed author's poem says it all (for me, at least):

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

In a book it's possible to have things in between chapters???? Well maybe occasionally with photograph sections in some books.

Oh, wait. You have a photographs section occupying several pages at the end of the prestige classes? Did the art team call in some favours from empyrial lords to set that up? :)

Folks'll just have to wait a few more months to see what's going on "between the chapters" of the PFRPG. It's pretty, though, that's for sure!

It's because if she has too much do drink, she might start making out with the strippers - or become one.

Far be it from me to call myself an expert on women, but I'm pretty sure she'll leave on her own after being unceremoniously replaced by Thirteen (the previously unnamed half-elven hotty). After she fireball's both of you.

All she'll have to do then is walk right out of a Kobold's Lair.

The smallest space, is after humans page, each race gets one page alone. So its fair to assume if races has two 'spare pages after it.

Races starts on page 20, straight into text. We've seen some form of more art heavy chapter layouts, so I assume their the 'spare' page before the start of every chapter, a big illo with the chapters title in a neat text box.

So there is one unnaccounted for page at the end of each chapter.

I'm guessing more art, maybe the chapter cover illo without textbox, but I think so, I think it'll be a gratutious showing off of their amazing artwork (all new?) and art crew. Which I am SO DAMN ok with!

Yeah, I'm referring to the poem. But where I sometimes hear poems in the voice of the poet reading it, there's a couple I always hear in the voice of Mr. Keating, and this is one of them.

Or maybe because if we illustrated guys with huge bulging packages (or even normal bulging packages), we'd cause a destructive scandal. The USA in general is too afraid of big packages and nipples for us to push those boundaries.

Big male packages in art would be exploitive and sexist. Sexualizing any person, regardless of race or gender, is badfun crimethink.

*sigh* I really hate my country's attitudes about sex about 90% of the time. I'm not dying for fan service in the art, despite the fact that straight male fans get serviced in almost every art order that depicts a female anything, but it stinks to know that you had to deliberately step around even normal anatomical accuracy.

And what's worse is that I know you're right. I could see the threads now. I remember back on ENWorld when Dragon did a muscled-out cover pic of Pelor. And that only had him from the waist up.
