Vic: Please move this to a more appropriate forum, if necessary. It's not specifically related to PaizoCon, so Gamer Life made the most sense to me.
So, I was trading wall posts with David Fryer on Facebook and he made a comment that prompted this idea to hit me like a blinding flash of ... something inspiring.
Background: I'm in the process of deciding on whether or not to follow through on my trip to GenCon 2009 because my close friend, with whom I have been planning the trip, is now telling me that he may not be able to go. Earlier on, my non-gamer wife, had offered to go with me, if my gamer friend couldn't, but now she's backing out...in fairness, she's not sure what she'd do while I'm off killing monsters. ;)
Given that constraint, the concept of a joinup in Vegas just fits perfectly. My wife loves Vegas, so she and I could get a few days away while I get the opportunity to meet some folks I've come to know and respect through these boards.
Additionally, it's a comparatively central location that would provide a chance for folks who can't travel all the way from the deep south or wherever to be at PaizoCon 09 in Seattle.
I'm suggesting the winter for a few selfish reasons (I'm still on deployment until much later in this year; I will need time to figure out what my ship's schedule will support after the new year; etc.), but I also know that Vegas isn't overly crowded during the winter months, so rooms are likely to be cheaper and easier to find.
Anyway, I wanted to get the idea out there, in case other individuals, Paizonian or otherwise, are of like mind...at least to get a discussion going.
Cheers!

Would consider going. My grandparents have a place in Scottsdale, so I could presumably take a daytrip out to play if I visit this year. I've never seen the desert, so Vegas might be nice.
I'd also like to see the nuke testing ground, but you have to book that in advance. (It's just outside of Vegas.) I'm also a Canadian citizen, so I'm not sure if the US army would approve.

I understand the difficulty of working toward November, especially if the idea is to do something more than have a get-together.
Financially speaking, November's pretty close to August (i.e., I'll still be recovering from GenCon's expenses, myself). I'm sure others will be in a similar situation.
I propose that we try for an informal meetup in November to get to know each other, show support for the Pathfinder Society and perhaps hold a face-to-face organizational meeting or two for a more focused event after the first of the year.
As I said on the facebook page, I don't yet know what I can commit to. Holding a commission in the Navy prevents me from promising anything, but I want to help and be as involved as I can. I can probably talk my wife into a weekend trip to Vegas in November, but I won't be able to be there for all 4 days of NeonCon.

<cross post to FB page> Just got off the phone with NeonCon organizers, NeonCon is going to hopefully a huge Paizo presence this year. <fingers crossed>
Things are still being finalized, I don't know yet if we would be able to use a "PaizoCon Vegas" name for our meetup as Paizo is already doing PaizoCon up there in their neck of the woods. I would guess that either David or Paris would need to check that out with the staff there and see if there will be any conflicts.
Pricing for the Con and hotel rates will be going up soon at NeonCon.

So, here's an idea.....
why don't you host a Pathfinder Party of sorts at NeonCon?
This could be a simple meetup of Paizo fans, or it could be sort of a greater thing, with some planning involved. The bottom line is, why not hitch your wagon to an established Con, and save yourself the trouble of booking space, collecting fees, beating the bushes, etc. Use NeonCon as the vehicle to host your event! Or better yet, throw all that effort behind the Pathfinder Society showing at the Con!
Something to think about....

I think this is a good idea and kind of in line with what I mentioned on the facebook page. My idea was to have a get-together for gaming and socializing, and then break off a group of interested folks to discuss taking over Las Vegas...I mean, talk about the possibility of a separate event later on.
As of this moment, neither David nor I have received permission to organize any kind of official PaizoCon event. For the time being, anything we do will have to be an unofficial gathering of friends. I did send an e-mail to Josh, but I'm sure he's swamped right now. I'll let you know when I hear something.
Hugo, I like the way you think. My family and I would only be driving from San Diego, but it will be the first time I've dragged her to a convention, so it's kind of like getting her to visit another country. ;-)

I'm possibly moving to Vegas in a year or so, so I would love to meet other Pathfinder player in Vegas. It would save me some leg work.

No you're not, there are at least two more of us paizo gamers here in Vegas. Theocrat and myself usually play PFS at the Vegasgamers.org monthly game day at the North Las Vegas library.

We do have a monthly game day at the North Las Vegas Library the last Saturday of every month. I do my best to make it and run one PFS scenario. We are also looking at running a biweekly PFS or Pathfinder game at a local gaming store in the Northwest side of town.

So, where would be a good place for us to meet? I don't know Palace Station all that well, are there any landmarks or anything that stands out that we could say, meet here at this time? I know there's a Macaroni Grill across the street.
There are all kinds of places inside Palace Station that we could meet at.
We are looking at how many people so far? Once it gets closer, I can work on getting a room set aside for us or some other venue.David Fryer |

I'm not sure how many we are looking at. There are 11 people is the Facebook group, but I know at least one of them isn't likely to be able to attend. Hopefully, the closer we get to November, the more likely we are to be able to firm up our plans.

Thanks for joining, Sully! Sorry I haven't been very active with this over the past week(s) or so. I've been dealing with lots of stuff at work and have had difficulties with getting facebook to load properly. I'll try to get back in the groove on this very soon.
Bottom line: I need to work the logistic in order to be able to attend anything at NeonCon, but am definitely going to try.
Cheers!

::Cough, Cough::
Err... Hello?!Oh, and if Vegas gamers are all sounding off here then be sure you make a note of this event.

I'll be underway myself come November, but I just wanted to chime in with a Go Navy!
Thanks, Shipmate! ;-)
My ARG is currently heading east and I'm really looking forward to getting home.
Unfortunately, finances and other life requirements will prevent me from attending ANY conventions this year, but I'm looking forward to hearing the reports from my friends here on the Paizo boards.
I'll just live vicariously through you all until next year.

It has been announced that Paizo's own Eric Mona will be the keynote speaker at the Games Unconferance portion of NeonCon. More details here. Joshua Frost is also going to be attending.

Folks,
I am glad to find so many fellow Paizo fans in and around Las Vegas. As the Executive Director of Neoncon, I'd like to officially extend an offer to host PaizoCon Vegas as part of Neoncon 2009. We are big fans of Paizo and they have a been a major sponsor of the show since we relaunched as Neoncon in 2007.
Here is a listing of the Paizo goodness already planned for Neoncon 2009.
1) Erik Mona is the Keynote Speaker for GamesU, the game design unconference being held at Neoncon.
2) Josh Frost will also be presenting at GamesU and working with us on our Pathfinder events.
3) We have a full slate of Pathfinder Society events, including an exclusive Interactive that includes an official Scenario Chronicle.
4) We have two signature events - Adamantine Author (think Iron DM) and Death Dungeon (think last PC standing) which use the Pathfinder RPG ruleset and Bestiary.
5) As always, Paizo will be giving us great prize support.
6) If there are any special events from past PaizoCons that you'd like to see, let us know and put us in touch with the folks running them and we'll help make them happen as best we can.
7) We are working on a special package discount for Paizonians. I'll have more details on that shortly. So, don't book your hotel just yet.
8) If you sell, or are planning to release, products that are Pathfinder RPG compatible, we are also working on a special deal for tables in our exhibit hall. This would also apply to podcasters and/or bloggers who cover Pathfinder and other Paizo products very closely.
If you are interested in running PFS events at the show (or other Pathfinder RPG events), please let us know by using the form found at this link:
http://www.neoncon.com/play/event-submission/
For locals, I will be running regular PFS games at Vegas Game Day (details below) and at stores around the valley after I get back from Gencon. And, if you are headed to Gencon, I'll be running PFS games on Thursday and Friday, so hunt me down and let's put faces to names.
Finally, if there is interest in releasing an issue of Wayfinder at or near the show, please let me know. We'd love to support it as well.
I think that is everything for now. I've provided some additional relevant links below.
Warm Regards,
Doug Daulton

Thanks for the heads up Doug. Any way wcould just get deal on tickets? Since I'm just coming from Cedar City, in Utah, I'm not goin to need a hotel. Even if I do stay over, I would be staying with my wife's family that lives in Vegas.
