Rules about beer!

I am wondering what the rules are concerning alcohol at this convention. Is it something that isn't to be consumed within the convention premises?

What is the story there?

The Exchange

I am still wondering, and drinking a beer.

I'm not sure about the Coast Hotel's alcohol policies....

it's a good question. We'll need to get that policy defined before June.

Silver Crusade

I imagine the rules about beer would be closely related to wether the hotel convention areas are going to be considered public. Regardless, courtesy should most likely be shown during the day when some convention goers may bring children to the event. That said, cons I've been to in the past have been remarkably good about polite warnings and instructions on how we could help them avoid trouble and still allow us to drink alcohol.

Scarab Sages

Mmmmm......beer.

Liberty's Edge

I don't think Gencon has a problem with beer but the convention center is a no beer zone. Plenty of very close watering holes but inside the center is a no no.

Dark Archive

I was all set to give a long lecture about the rules of proper beer drinking and then this turned out to be a thread about whether beer will be allowed at the con or not. Epic fail.

My rules about beer are it has to be the good stuff: Guinness, Carlton Black, Newcastle Brown, or Tooheys Old.

Silver Crusade

A new brew pub has opened in Redmond recently called Black Raven. I'm really enjoying their stuff. Their Batch #1 is a Porter I think. Nice and dark and malty. And their IPA is tasty for an IPA(not a hops person so if you are take a grain of salt). Very clear crisp citrusy up front and a steep hoppy finish. For what that's worth, I couldn't drink this all day if I didn't have to come up for air.

I was digging out the Dragon Magazine with the rules about alcohol and drunkeness. I think it had "Am I drunk yet?" on the cover.

The Coast Bellevue does not allow alcohol to be consumed outside of the bar or outside of your hotel room. This is the Coast Bellevue following state law. So bring beer if you want to, but don't drink it outside of your room please. If we see attendees drinking in the public areas of the hotel (and that includes everywhere our events will be run) we'll have to ask you to stop or leave (if you refuse to stop). I'd rather we stay on the right side of the law and the Coast Bellevue hotel. :-)

Fair enough! I don't think I'd want to drink at any PaizoCon events were I to go. The nights though...

I am SO hoping to be able to make it next year!

If you are from outside the region, know well that the great northwest is home to some excellent microbrew.

You speak true. :D

A few places in Redmond that harken to this premise that good microbrew can be had in the Pacific Northwest....

Malt and Vine
Black Raven Brewery
Mac & Jacks Brewery

And a little further north, the Red Hook Brewery

So, need good beer for the Con? ;-)

Malt and Vine is awesome. Doug and Lizzie are the best and they'll help you fumble through their massive collection of beers.

Ok, the reason that I ask. I am bringing beer. Not cookies. Beer. Homemade beer. A lot of homemade beer. Beer for anyone that I want to give it to. I am hoping to give it to the lushier Paizo staff members. However, I rather they drink it so I know if they liked it. Sucks to hand out a beer that nobody will try. Better to hand out a tankard and say, "What do you think?"

And if they say, "Awesome dude!"

Then hand them a bottle. How does one do that? Do we meet at the bar? Do we meet in my room? I suppose I shouldn't bring the beer. However, I am proud of it. As proud as Lilith is with her cookies. Its just an ackward thing to share.

Perhaps I should contact the hotel?

I love ESB Red Hook btw. I will have to try the other Microbrew places. Especially that homey one.

Were I a beer drinker I'd love to partake of some Gamerbrew. You make me proud to be a craftsgamer.

What are the rules on hookers and blow in public areas of the hotel?

Liberty's Edge

Root Beer is the best beer ;-)

A good runner-up is Guinness...

...which tastes kind of like chocolate and NyQuil.

And my daughter says root beer tastes like chocolate and Coca-Cola.

So...there's a connection in there somewhere...

Boddingtons is also yummy.

Har Har. I'm serious and stuff.

Bring your beer! Homebrew is meant to be shared amongst folk who will appreciate it, even if we do have to belly up to the bar (aka your hotel room) to get it. :)

Yeah, I'll probably be breaking my dietary restrictions in order to get my hands on some quality beverages. Funny enough, nothing from Washington on my must-have list, but I'll see if I get a hankering for something local. :P

Come to Gen Con too! And bring more beer! Hell, you can drink 'til you pass out and sleep on my floor! Har!

Sign me up. I will taste your beer sir.

I have to decline Yoda's offer of hookers and blow though.

On the note of beer, we really should organize a little trip to Black Raven for the out-of-towners. They make a wonderful nut-brown porter, and they brew everything right there on-site.

Is that from "Go"? I'm having a brain cramp right now and can't remember what that's from...

Silver Crusade

Can't wait to taste your beer. Keep it in your room and I'm sure there won't be any problems.

It's from "No Sex (In the Champagne Room)", a song by comedian Chris Rock.

The problem is...a big one. I want to have some Paizo people try it. However, there won't be any convenient place for it. Except, come up to my creepy room!

You guys are doing Cayden Cailean proud.

Somebody name a home brew 'Cailean'.

Hah! No interest so far by Paizo Staff members concerning beer. Guess I am off the hook!

Ak, Ive been seriously misquoted!

I wouldn't slam what Ive had when visiting California - esp in Berkeley and San Francisco. But as a NW area native (go Oregon!) I can attest to fine local drinkables throughout the region. Anyway, friends do not let friends drink Bud :D

Scarab Sages

If the fine folks at Paizo ever decide to do an East Coast PAIZOCON, then I vow to not only show up, but show up with homebrew!

As much as I would like to attend GenCon, I don't have the finances for both. If you took a gander at my collection of Paizo products, it is easy to see why I chose to come to this Con instead.

Ok, back on topic. I will be calling the hotel to find out more about "beer drinking" on the ground floor.
