See that "flag" button. That didn't used to be there. It got put there because there were too many jackasses bringing endless edition/playtest wars to these boards. That, and Sebastian.

Owwww....I didn't notice the addition of the "flag" button. I assume it marks posts to bring them to the attention of Paizo staff?

Yeah; it made identification of problem children really easy during the time of troubles.

I think the way the system is set up, every time I post it automatically gets flagged. That saves time for everyone involved.

Scarab Sages

The smvrfing specifically doesn't offend me, but it's no different than any other form of threadcrapping. Even at its worst this thread maintained a pretty high level of civility compared to what happened in the 4e forums when 4e was announced. There was actually some useful information in this thread.

Now I come back and check every however long and there are 20 new posts, with 18 of them being people who can't keep their smvrf in their pants. How is that different from any other form of threadcrapping? It doesn't keep the discussion light at all, it just gets in the way of people actually being able to use the thread for the topic for which it's intended. If there's nothing left to say then it won't be said and the thread will drop off the top of the messageboards. Who made the smvrf brigade into the roaming saviours of the boards so they could come along and *decide* when a thread has run its course and it's time to make it nigh unreadable?

It's no different from Vomit Guy, and he was politely and insistently asked to stop by the mods - except now anyone who can type the special word gets to crap in the thread, too. Just because it says 'smvrf' instead of 'blarrrrrgghghhhhhh!' doesn't change the fact that it's useless and a waste of time to sift through. There is no reason for Gary to leave it in if that's how people are going to abuse it.

Seriously - if you want to have smvrf wars, make a thread for it. No need to pollute other threads with it.

And I've left no bait out there to be bitten on, for the person who suggested such.

I see you still don't understand.

But, in regards to your request, no, I won't quit smvrfing flamebait threads. And, if you read carefully, you'll see that I didn't actually accuse you of flamebaiting. If I were to accuse you of such, I would actually do it, not pussyfoot around and not name names.

Also, threadcrapping is something totally different as well, but again, seeing as you can't grasp the concept of friendly smvrfing, I doubt you will understand that either.

Now, since off-topic posts appear to cause you great psychic distress, why don't you quit whining about people being off topic and actually post on topic and get the thread back on track. Because I can play this "who's the backseat moderator with greatest moral authority game" all day, and it is just as irrelevant to the topic as smvrfing.

Good job. You're part of the problem. Only you make it worse by inviting responses like this one. Follow your own advice.

The thread isn't a flame bait, The majority isn't flamebait. Suggesting otherwise is insulting.

This (thread-)crap is just as bad as any other form of breaking the guidelines. If you think posts are over the top, flag them. If you think threads are over the top, flag them. If Paizo agrees that it's over the top, it will get locked.

But you don't get to play Forum Police by breaking the rules.

Don't understand what? That a few people think it's fine to basically come in and destroy any semblance of on-topic discussion with a ridiculous smvrf avatar so they can giggle and titter when they get smurfette? Which then, of course, gets all the kids riled up and they join in too? I thought Vomit Guy was funny - because it was a one-time thing, usually. This is ridiculous.

I was asking for some restraint because I feel that a thread has been hijacked by people who are showing no respect for other posters on this messageboard and insist on sidetracking and making useless a thread that had nothing to do with blue midgets.

Sebastian the bully is back. Joy.

Hooray for me!!! Please, let's continue this on-topic discussion of appropriate topics to discuss!!! Or...maybe you can start a new thread about it! What a novel idea.

Maybe you can tell me what's appropriate to post. I didn't get that memo. I would love to hear more!

This thread is fun. I don't even know how bad it was before I showed up and saw the smurfing and decided to join in the fun.

Where's the thread? It'd probably be a good idea to post a link here for those unfortunate enough to wander into this meta-debate about community standards so they can find out the relevant information and not bother with this nonsense.

Don't listen to them. They are trying to get you to forget how mad you are. Hang on to the anger, WoTC is your real enemy. Flame them, not the thread-smvrfers.

hmarcbower and KaeYoss, I fully agree with you. Here's my suggestion, though, either ignore people like Sebastian, who apparently has no problem posting flame bait himself, or flag their posts. I despise the sm*rf thread crapping as much as you do since it's a juvenile attempt to stifle conversation.
If you don't think you have anything meaningful to post in the thread and/or you think it's run its course, just leave it alone and don't post in it. How hard can that be? If anyone steps out of line, guess what, that's what we have the flag button for now.

I like chocolate milk!

I just interpret the little-blue-gnoming differently, speaking as someone who disagreed with Scott Betts and who certainly did some venting against the Wotcis. Like David said, know who your enemy is. Guess there's no way to convince anyone of this...

Ahoy, matey, I have emerged from my pirate ship with my tiny violin to play you the tribute you so richly deserve.

Also, you may, if you look closely and think carefully, notice a pattern in the so-called smurf crapping. It's not as if random threads get invaded by the little blue bastards. It's the threads that have grown nasty and flameworthy.

Coincidentally, those tend to be 4e threads.

Also coincidentally, those tend to be the threads where those who only post hateful things about 4e tend to gather in large numbers. Or politics threads, which are their own toxic brew of hate.

Or you can just flag me for being a big meanie face.

Dark Archive Bella Sara Charter Superscriber

Dark Archive

I have been noticing a trend in this thread. There is a certain element that seems to think that if you don't go along with their angry rants and accept that Wizards is the Anti-Christ, then you are trying to silence them. First they accused Scott Betts of it, and now they are accusing the blue men of it. Yet, as of late they seem to be more concerned with combating the heresy that is saying something not in accord with their opinion then they are in dealing with the issue at hand. I haven't seen this big a crusade against heresy since the Inquisition.

Wouldn't that be redundant?

Or are you just angling for a flag for this ship you recently procured?

Well, I already moved my smvrfing over to the smvrf thread. I, at least, was doing it in an effort to lighten the mood, not 'threadcrap,'since the topic appeared to be exhausted and the mood appeared to growing steadily more hostile in the absence of anything constructive being left to say.

However, since these efforts are not welcomed, I will bow out of this thread forthwith, since it has grown, in my opinion, into a circular jabbing match.

My apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Without a doubt, that's what everyone was doing (and usually is doing) when a thread moves to the smurfing point. It's just that for some reason various malcontents have chosen this thread to make some grandiose stand against smurfing and are trying to frame it as being the same as threadcrapping. It's not, it never has been, and the only people who view it that way are those with axes to grind. As I've already said, I could easily stay on topic and participate in the on-topic flamewars, or I can do what I'm doing now, which is being a pain in the ass to the axe-grinders that are at the root of the various flamewars.

Simply put, if you [I mean the universal you, not you, Carnivorous_Bean, who as far as I am aware, are not a dick] weren't being a dick (the cardinal rule of the Paizo forums), your thread wouldn't get smurfed. End of story. Don't be a dick. And don't whine like a little girl when someone tries to derail you from being a dick. That just makes you a bigger dick.

And yes, I am entirely comfortable being the biggest dick of all.

There has been a definite shift in this thread towards making it more of a 'WotC is teh sux' thread as we have seen again and again throughout the whole 4E debacle. This PDF descision annoys me to no end, and I am unhappy with it, but I will not grab the pitchfork and run screaming through the Interwebz. They are a company, not the Debbil. Continually rehashing the same angry arguments makes this board look no better than Gleemax.

Brix, if you are still asking for input I would mention to Mr. Leeds that he should really consider having all the 'obsolete' game materials for sale somewhere, as they shouldn't pose a threat to the current game, and they would provide his company a steady revenue stream as well as some badly-needed goodwill among consumers. If he wants to keep the 4E PDFs down, well, that's his perogative, but I personally think it will not aid in hampering piracy any.

I think this thread has served its purpose. I think it's time to close up the website feedback board on my screen and let this bad boy wither away.
