No problem.

I was thinking of one or two rooms, rather than the whole place, but I have no idea of the cost.
I was really was just throwing it out there since it would make a change for people to come to me, instead of me going to them!
LOL

Given I live in Leeds it would save me a lot of hassle too.

The conventions I've been involved in have done rooms as well as bigger parts of the Armouries and Saville Hall and it's still almost certainly well out of the budget for this.

Sounds good. If the date does not collide with my work schedule, count me in. I might also be able to bring along some others. I'll give it a hard try.

I'm interested, too. I live near Bristol, so I can go East to Oxford/Reading/London, or North to Birmingham. Or stay in Bristol, if you feel like holding it here!

Just finished having a very useful conversation with Aston University. It looks like this is more of a possibility now. Best time for Aston to host it would be in July. In fact the weekend of the 11th/12th July looks good. So who is interested in PaizoCon UK at Aston University, Birmingham on 11th/12th July?

no problems here for me. Would anyone from paizo be interested to come? Of course it is not a must but it would be cool to have you here. Specially Hank his banana bread seems awesomely tasty.

I'll see, but I doubt it... Unless babies are allowed... :S

(Maybe I can ask my wife to do one game on, one game off).

Suggestion/request: will there be a boardgame area for those not Finding any Paths?

Cheers! :D

My main focus has been sorting out a venue and date so once they are confirmed I'll be considering inviting guests and exactly what will be run. A boardgame area sounds good and I'll have a look into what facilities are on offer too. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll have more information.

We'll need a room with a stage...

(That's actually not a bad idea though, for announcements and such. Wintergreen, I hope you're a good public speaker!)

I don't think we'll have a stage unfortunately.

I used to be a secondary school teacher and I've done quite a bit of work on presentation skills, but hey I'm a GM so if that doesn't count as public speaking ....

Good answer ;-)

Woo-hoo, an excuse to visit Birmingham again - I went to Uni there. Good choice of location, even if it is at Aston rather than the 'real' University of Birmingham ;)

Sovereign Court

11th/12th July sounds perfect.

11th/12th July seems good, although as an observation this year's Ashes series commences a few days earlier in Cardiff.
Will have a buses update tomorrow.

I think whatever date we went for there would be something happening around then. That weekend is good for Aston Uni and accommodation availability so unless the majority of those who have said they are interested can't make then I will go for that date.

Thanks.

Sovereign Court

Is that accommodation at the University? Hopefully it'd be cheap for two days!

Yep, the main decider for the dates is the availability of the cheaper university accommodation.

now that I'm calm..it's the first weekend of my summer hols and I'm definitely up for this.

On the subject of rooms, even if a stage isn't available, I would hope that they have sufficient tables for several games to be occuring at the same time... :)

That is one of my requirements. The rooms can hold at least 4 game tables each.

I am good for that date.

Right now I am trying to convince my wife to go to the UK on those dates.. She said she is good with it as long as we do a cross country drive to see the sights and it fits our budget..

I can't promise I can go, because I am going to Gen Con Indy, But I am going to try to fit it in.

It would be great to have you there. Hopefully we can get many of those who were at GenCon UK and the UK launch of Pathfinder Society there for the end of season 0.

Good luck getting everything organised!

So what do people think?
Could we organise something perhaps for June or July in the UK, one weekend of plenty of PFS games?

I'd certainly drop by.

Preliminary Report, Buses, etc in Birmingham
I have made inquiries at West Midlands Travel today, and established that the 65 and 67 bus routes are likely to pass by the northwest edge of the main campus of Aston university on their way out of town; except for early mornings, these buses are likely to run at approximately 20 minute intervals until 23:30 in the case of the 65, or 00:02 in the case of the 67. Maximum single fare is (currently) £1.70.
However, the bus stops in the city centre for these routes are out on Corporation Street, already in the direction of Aston University, and some of the distance to the university will have already be covered on foot in reaching them; these bus stops are perhaps only 300 yards from the edge of the campus, and travel by bus to the Dartmouth Circus stop (for Aston University) is timetabled to take only 4 minutes.
I estimate Birmingham New Street station to be no more than half a mile on foot from the edge of the Aston University campus, Snow Hill station to be no more than a third of a mile on foot from the edge of the campus, and Moor Street to be somewhere in between the two in terms of distance on foot.

Birmingham New Street has a taxi rank, and I have been advised that a taxi fare from the station to the university is likely to be in the vicinity of £5 minimum. (During the working week, at peak traffic time around 17:00 to 17:30, it may be substantially more than this, as the city centre traffic comes to a halt on occasions.) I am informed that Snow Hill has taxis operating from Livery Street along one side of the station. The status of taxis in the vicinity of Moor Street is currently unknown to me, but the road layout thereabouts does not seem likely to be conducive to taxis (busy dual carriageways, etc).

Digbeth Coach Station (National Express) is currently on a temporary site which I am unfamiliar with. The old coach station featured a place where taxis often waited in the hope of fares, and I guess that the current site may well do as well. Public transport from Digbeth would likely require travelling a couple of stops into the city centre, and then heading across to Corporation Street to pick up a 65 or 67 there. Or the adventurous could zigzag around the back streets on foot, hoping not to become lost…

With regard to travel by car, although I am not sure how much car-parking there is on campus, Aston University is just a short trip down the Aston Expressway from Spaghetti Junction and the motorway network.

I've tried to be efficient in presenting information; there a are still a couple of things there might be updates to come on such as any bus services that West Midlands travel didn't have information on, and the taxi situation at Moor Street and Digbeth (temporary) Coach Station, but this is the transport stuation in broad outline at present.

Thanks Charles, that's really useful. I'll try and collate as much information as I can to make it available for everybody at some point.

The principle problem with travel on foot is I imagine that whilst in theory the campus is in 'walking distance' of the city centre for a fit healthy adult, doing so if it's raining and/or with suitcases is suddenly another matter altogether.

For those with relatives in need of distraction, the nearby science museum at Millenium Point is due to feature a 'walking with dinosaurs' exhibition, (BBC related?) from May until August. The promotional fliers in circulation say that the main exhibition is likely to be covered by the 'Think Tank' entrance ticket cost.

Dark Archive

I've not been keeping up with Paizo stuff much recently, more's the pity, but I'm very interested in this event, particularly as I used to live near Birmingham so visiting isn't a problem.

I'll keep an eye on this thread for more info, but ought to be able to come along!

Taxis can be shared. Attendants could meet at the station, waving PFRPG banners ;-)

Could we organize a collective visit, pretty please ? After all, dinosaurs'bones were at the origin of the myths about dragons. Kind of paying our respects to the family.

And I am sure the exhibition's managers will be fascinated by the red paint and leathery wings we will add to the show.

I am interested also, I live close to Aston on the M5 corridor and the dates are good for me. Do we have to book in advance?
