Seeing the hobgoblin run away , Herve runs after it without waiting for anyone . "Bogorin, speak less , run more ! "

This is a run action , not a double move

Herve has only a 40' Move so Talden can easily pass him . what is the movement rate of the hobgoblin with his armor ?).

As far as you can tell he's using probably studded leather with a steel shield so he's as fast as Talden

Talden Skard wrote:

Talden pauses for a moment to wait for Willy, Brallin and Tenna to catch up while he looks about for any additional threats.

It looks like Invisible Castle is down. Once it is back up I'll roll his perception check.

To your far right is a trail that looks roughly like it matches up with the second of the three trails you came across earlier, to your left the trail comes to the mouth of a cave with your sight it looks like just a short way in it junctions off out of sight to the right but also has another junction to the left which looks like some kind of cavern.

Ogre's Lair#1

Let me know if you can't see this

Bogorin's at the cave mouth. Just curious, is Herve running into the darkened (well, I'm Assuming actually) cave with no light of his own?

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

Back, finally. I'm really sorry for the absence

Seeing the horse coming at her, Tenna quickly tried to dive to the side before noticing Brallin stepping in between them.

Acrobatics?: 16

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

Willy secures the wagon horses then joins Bogorin at the cave mouth.

"We just leave Ol' Carter in da wagon?"

What was the outcome of Brallin's attempt to calm the horse?

Brallin the North Wind Warrior wrote:

Brallin only:

Spoiler:
I assume you were rolling the check, if you want I can roll it for you?

I can't see the image because it is one of the few sites blocked at work but I will check first thing when I get home.

As Willy pulls the wagon up to where the paths meet and Tenna and Brallin join him Talden heads up to the entrance to the cave to join Bogorin and Herve.

Hopeless, I did roll. I included the link to Invisible Castle with my original post, here. In addition to the skill checks, I can speak to the horse now. Does it respond?

Hey! Maybe Brallin could tell the horses (with the wagon) to return to the town? Either Now or at the first sign of danger? We could strap Carter in real secure...it would be better than just leaving him there I think?

I can try that for sure. I can only speak with animals for 1 minute, however. Do you think we can strap Carter in and send him off in that time? Is the way back to town clear enough for the horses to find on their own?

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

No , Herve stops at the entrance and begin to shout
'Hola , false ogre . I , Herve Esterel , know why you are here ! When you came back to your tribe with only a halfling skull as trophy , your brothers mocked you but that was before they found you looted the skull from a week dead halfling killed by disease ! Your tribe didn't even want to eat the meat of a coward like you ! so tribeless you came here and did take goblins as followers because you like to lay with skinny goblin females who remind you of your mother ! now , come and get it like a true ogre if this is not true ! '

With that , Herve wait with his longspear set on the ground to wait for the hopefully charge of the enraged ogre.

, the purpose of the speech is also to make sure the ogre directs his attacks towards Herve and not the others
Diplomacy roll to ensure this works 23
I see diplomacy as the way to change the attitude of creatures toward you , this is more a reverse diplomacy roll actually

"Whoa!" Brallin calms down the stricken horse.

Brallin only:
Spoiler:
The horse is currently swearing using words and descriptions that would make a foul mouthed sailor turn white basically it didn't care for being shot with an arrow and really hates goblins or hoof fodder as he calls them!
The handle animal roll failed but the wild empathy especially with your spell helps stop the horse who has now turned to you and yelled,
"MEDIC! Someone get this d****d arrow out of me!!!"

The horse comes to a sudden stop and turns to glare at Brallin as if its seriously angry and is currently showing him its wounded flank.

Tenna looks on bemused before noticing the others have moved on.

Brallin only:

Spoiler:

Sorry wasn't aware you could do that with invisible castle rolls
"Sure heal me and I'll guide these fools back to home," Herve's mount snickers at that point but then says,"But first the healing!"

Herve Esterel wrote:

The air grows quiet as the others realise what you're doing.

Bracing yourselves for a fierce response all you get is just the buzzing flies gathering at the corpses of the goblins.

Brallin:

Spoiler:
I assume you at least do a Heal check on Herve's mount?

Herve:

Spoiler:
"You know that might have worked if the Ogre wasn't blind drunk," an unfamilar voice speaks from behind you.

"Easy boy, easy." Brallin says, as he gingerly takes a look at the arrow wound. "That shouldn't be a problem at all." Brallin eases the mount's concerns as effortlessly as he coaxes the arrow out of the wound. "Good as new! Take Carter and the rest of the bunch back home, alright? I've got a nice treat for you when we get back."

Spoiler:
"Hmph, just watch out for whatever thats up there, can't see it but it stinks like manure!" Herve's mount grimaces as it turns to head towards the wagon.
"Look we stay around here and whatever else is here is going to come after us, let's head back maybe we can get there before the rest of the b*****s eat all of the hay, maybe there's an apple in it for us!" he tells the other horses who look at each other before looking at the party.
They seem to discuss it for a moment before Herve's mount looks back.
"Okay we'll head off now," he tells Brallin before taking the lead as the wagon takes the turn to head down the trail that looks like it serves as the 2nd trail you saw earlier on.

For hopeless

Spoiler:

Herve looks behind him quickly.
"Who are you and how do you know this ?

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

Tenna scrambled out of the brush she had thrown herself into and hurried to catch up with Talden and Willy along with Bralin. She kept her distance from the horses as she did so. That close call had put her right off those large animals for the moment.

Brallin, upon seeing Tenna emerge from the bushes slightly terrified, addresses her. "You ok there, miss? That was a real close call there, but the horse didn't mean anything by it. Really they just hate goblins. Sometimes, when you get hurt real bad, everything goes white. You know? Sometimes you just lash out, because of the pain. He didn't want to hurt you, I know that. He told me that. He's going to take Carter and the others back to town."

Brallin extends a hand to Tenna, to help her get up. "Come on, we should catch up with the others."

Is anybody wounded?

Male Half - Elf Warrior/Ranger* (1/2)

Talden has a couple of scratches but nothing too serious.

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

Guys, we can't send Carter back to town . he won't survive the trip . that's the main reason we didn't already go back
Herve is of course unhurt :)

Herve looks behind him quickly.
"Who are you and how do you know this ?

Herve:

Spoiler:

"Let's just say we share a common cause" the eery voice on the wind tells you.
Looking around you see only your comrades and the corpses of the foes you've fought.
The others are reacting to your words making it clear they can't hear what's being said to you.
"I have an offer for you if you want, the price is negotiable are you interested?" the voice asks an edge of amusement in its tone that makes it sounds malicious.

For the DM

Spoiler:
I am not in the habit of buying something unseen . what is your offer ?

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

Willy intently peers into the cave.

Perception: 1d20+6=25

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

Tenna gratefully took Brallin's hand to pick herself up, following him to the cave.

Perception: 24!

Bogorin's perception roll (18) from when he first arrived at the cave mouth should still be good as you haven't given me anything from it yet, yes? If not I'll roll again or you can for me

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

Perception 21

Male Half - Elf Warrior/Ranger* (1/2)

1d20+4=18, 20 if it is sight or sound based

Herve:

Spoiler:
"I know what you face, I tell you this now as you are you are doomed to fail, in return for a truce and claim upon one item within I will help you win through what lies ahead for you, what say you?" the voice asks its tone somewhat mocking.

Herve make a Sense Motive check just noted your perception check

The cave mouth in front of you its somewhat unnerving to hear Herve talking to someone even though there's nobody else there except for yourselves, the horse has left heading back down the trail you believe leads back to the junction you chose the wagon trail to follow.

Herve, Tenna, Talden & Willy:

Spoiler:
Someone is watching you from the top of the hill right where Old Carter said there was a third entrance to the lair

Talden:

Spoiler:
There is an odd scent in the air almost like manure but you have no idea where its coming from

Herve:

Spoiler:
You think the watcher is also the one talking to you

Tenna & Willy:

Spoiler:
Something is waiting for you inside the cave somewhere to the right out of sight you can just make out the sounds of several creatures scampering back there, you can also just about here someone talking to Herve making his sudden odd talking to himself make alot more sense since you noticed the figure at the top of the hill

Bogorin:

Spoiler:
You swear you heard the hobgoblin down the right hand passage but something else is down there and it doesn't sound like an ogre to you!

Male Half - Elf Warrior/Ranger* (1/2)

"It looks like we are being watched by someone at the top of the hill..."

Talden says without taking his eyes off the entrance to the cave.

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

"And there something in here" says Willy, meaning the cave. "Anyone got a torch?"

Male Half - Elf Warrior/Ranger* (1/2)
Willard Barnable wrote:

"Check my backpack. I've got a couple of sunrods in there and they should provide us with enough light to see."

The scampering is now getting louder enough so that you all can hear it, meanwhile something is smelling truly horrible near you but you're not sure where the smell is coming from.

Herve:

Spoiler:
"Better make a move the master is coming out to play!" the voice begins to catcall sounding even more amused.

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

Willy starts looking in Talden's backpack. "What's a sunrod look like? And what's that stinky stink?"

Male Taldan Aristocrat 4

Sense motive 20

Defense position everyone ! Bogorin and me upfront the others protect Tenna and Brallin. We'll speak after the fight , "Friend" . I think you underestimate us ...

Herve only:

Spoiler:
Your sense motive tells you he needs your help as much as he believes you need his

"A gift for you to return if you survive!" the voice openly states as a vial hits the ground about a few feet away from you, it shatters releasing a cloud of vapour that rapidly expands before suddenly shrinking once more.

Perception checks from everyone and any character that has a skill rank in either Knowledge/Arcana or Spellcraft can make a check with this skill too

Male Half - Elf Warrior/Ranger* (1/2)

1d20+4=13, 15 if sight or sound based

Male Half - Elf Warrior/Ranger* (1/2)

Talden takes up a position to the left of the cave entrance and prepares himself to flank the ogre the moment it attacks.

Male Human (Taldan) Barbarian (Invulnerable Rager) 5

Before Talden moves, Willy pulls a stick out of his pack that he thinks must be a sunrod.

"How do I light it?"

Perception: 1d20+6=21

"Strike the rod against something hard and when it lights up throw it into the entrance and prepare for whatever comes out."

Female Human (Chelish) Commoner 1/Ranger 2

Tenna's shaking hand went for the special arrow she had been entrusted with. Gotta make sure I shoot it at the right thing, she reminded herself.

"Who's Herve talking to?" she whispered to the others as she moved away from the entrance, keeping close to the side of the hill.

Hopeless, please remember Bogorin has Darkvision. What has he seen in the cave this whole time, considering he was the first one there, sometime before anyone else got there?
Perception (1d20+3=6) (+2 to Taste & Touch on this and the last check)

Willy hits the sunrod on the ground and throws it as far as he can into the cave, then grabs his axe with both hands.

"Come an' git some!" he yells into the cave.

"Oh dern," he tells Bogorin, "I left the whiskey on the wagon."

Perception (1d20+3=6) (+2 to Taste & Touch on this and the last check)

Bogorin:

Spoiler:
Scampering is coming from further inside the cave whilst you have better vision its still around the corner out of sight, the vial thats just been chucked down from above and has landed behind you is what the new perception check is for.
What you do know is that someone is either someone is trying to goad you into a rash action or is trying to warn you about something, by the way that foul smell is coming from behind the entire party...

Front entrance
Hope this is clearer.
