Strauss kind of got a bad rap. If he hadn't lived so long, he would have died before his music started getting used for all sorts of nationalistic purposes, and the world would think better of him. I kind of feel like they took advantage of a doddering old man.

Carl Orff, on the other hand, deliberately whored out his music to Hitler, and while I like me some Carmina Burana, the taint on his musical career was earned.
