When former players commentating on the game are saying, "I don't know what a catch is anymore," and when retired referees (sitting in the booth with said commentators) say, "that was a catch, the call will be overturned," and it isn't, there is a big problem with the catch rule.
While watching that happen, as soon as Mike Carey said it should be overturned, I knew the call would stand. It's the Mike Carey Rule, he's always wrong.

I wonder if this Peyton Manning thing will now get brushed under the rug. He will retire and everyone will say doesn't matter he is retiring nothing to see here move along. Integrity of the game my butt.
Maybe we'll get lucky and the Colts will be stripped of a couple first round picks.

So, the Brady suspension is back on after the appeals court ruled in favor of the NFL.
The Eagles are my favorite train wreck to watch this off-season. Sam Bradford demanding a trade only enhances this.
And I suspect teams have optimistically overvalued the quarterbacks in this draft, or maybe us rubes on the outside have undervalued the quarterbacks in this draft.
Either way, it's been a surprisingly entertaining off-season so far. :-)

The Eagles are almost certainly gonna flame out...harder than last year. Chip Kelly's 10 year plan is working perfectly.
As an Eagles fan, I should throw a cup of beer at you and berate you for being wrong, but I'm too exhausted from yelling at management through the computer screen.

Man, I feel your pain. Trust me, as an Oregon alum I wanted nothing more than for Kelly to be successful, if only to prove that his system works on both levels.
I'm not sure what the hangup was in Philly, but man it didn't work at all. Let's see how he does in San Fran with a different QB and ownership, but honestly I'm not expecting any better results.

Well, good-bye and good luck, Josh Norman.
Dave Gettelman obviously felt that, as good a cornerback as you were this season, you were not worth fifteen million a year.
On the plus side, we have more cap room, and you and Odell Beckham get to try and murder each other twice a year from now on. The Giants - Redskins games will be moved to prime times slots just for the potential drama.

After that Wisconsin loss, only a sweep of SEC West teams would have saved Les's job. The fact that the loss last night can pretty much be laid at his feet didn't help. I'm 100% in agreement with the firing.
Absolutely. He had a good run, and I'm betting someone will snatch him up. Meanwhile, LSU can concentrate on rebuilding.

The other day, for some inexplicable reason, I found myself remembering Friday night's during my high school years. We'd more often than not spend them in Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans, watching my school's football team play.....someone.
My parent's always sat in the same place, up at the top of the stadium, typically near where many of the school administrators and teachers were sitting.
I look forward to something similar, but from the parent perspective, in the future.

My son won't be playing football at any level. CTE is a real thing, and its effects have been documented in people who have *only* played PeeWee/MS/HS ball.
I'm a Basketball fan too, and I'll be pushing him into that one.
I doubt my boy will be appropriately sized and skilled for football. If anything, he'll maybe run track. Lord knows I'll discourage him from soccer, though I'd be cool if he played baseball.
Then again, none of my brothers played high school football, but we still went to the games to show our support and have a good time.

And the Panthers appear to be imploding: defending NFC champs are 1-3! Even wilder!!
Those of us who are long-time Panther fans are used to it. We don't seem to be able to sustain a highly competitive team for more than a season or two. We spike up, then crash back down.
I'm just hoping we don't follow our 15-1 season with another 1-15 season.

Well, looking at Carolina's next 7 games, they could win any of them . . . but they could lose any of them, too. They should have a solid win against Tampa Bay on Monday, and I would call a coin-flip against New Orleans the following game . . . . I'm not sure who's going to show up more convinced of the need to win when they face off against Arizona. And I would love to see the Rams crush them 13-10 . . . . Regardless, looks like a tough schedule, and "any given Sunday" . . . .
Oh, well. We'll see.
Now I just hope the Vols pull off a win against Texas A&M tomorrow.

Can't say I'm surprised. Two multi-loss seasons in a row, plus his inability to beat Saban. His firing was pretty much a done deal.
Bill Simmons had a nice rant about how much money is wasted on fired coaches in the NCAA. He thinks they should adopt a rule that coaches can only be signed to 4 year deals. These 10 year, multi-million contracts are a big burden for teams to carry when they fire the coach 3 years into it. I think Auburn was on the hook last year for two previous coaches, who combined for some $3.8 million.
Charlie Weiss got paid some $18 million NOT to coach by Notre Dame. He's also getting monthly payments from Kansas of about $200,000 (though that'll finish soon).
Nebraska still has about 30 payments of $132,000 to Bo Pelini (or about $4 million).
