I need to know the names of all my employees and have a good idea about who they are and what they want in life. In short, I want a family type atmosphere. You lose that if you get too big. So as long as Vic and I are the owners, we will be happy to grow in the money we bring in, but we don't want to grow too big in number of employees.

...

I'm speechless.

You actually make my eyes water. 100% dead serious. That's all I need to hear, considering it was my biggest worry regarding Paizo's future (way and beyond the potential failure of Pathfinder) as a gamer and well, as a human being really (I won't go into the details, but this really touches some of the things I feel the most strongly about in my life, for a wide variety of reasons that have and don't have anything to do with gaming) so... here. Thank you for being aware of this.

Sorry for the threadjack. Let's go back to the festivities!

The Exchange

Congrats ladies and gents. You have kept me in gaming, along with at least 10 others, That's a job well done.

I've said it 1,000 times at least. The thing that sets you guys a part is more than having the best talent, more than making the best products, more than working harder than everyone else. The thing that makes you the best company in the business is that you care about your fans more than anyone else. In todays corporate world of bottom lines at all costs and sales over anything else, you guys stand out as the one that does whatever it takes to take care of your fans. This is the first company I have ever seen where I can post a question on your message board and within a day get an answer from the CEO, Publisher, Managing Editor, Techinical Director, etc. etc. You have without a doubt set a new standard in customer service for the industry. When I company is that loyal to me as a customer, I have no problem making sure that I return that loyalty with my wallet.

AMEN BROTHER! I'M A SUPERSCRIBER BECAUSE OF THIS.

I agree wholeheartedly with Red Death and Veector. We love Paizo as it is, we don't want to see you guys become the Faceless Megacorp (ala Shadowrun). We like the fact our voices can be heard here and actually make a difference (I know I was shocked the first time I realized that) and its one of the things that made me become a frequent poster here. Sure, I am not Heathannson, but who is? (How many posts does he have now???)

Measured growth and keeping the company running the way you have is a sure recipe for success. Keep talking to us and hearing what we have to say and you will always have our devotion. Thanks again Paizo for being great and not falling for typical corporate delusion.

One more "congrats" to add to the pile. You all deserve all the praise you get. Well done, everyone! ^_^

YOU ROCK!!

I'm really very happy for you folks! You all deserve your success!

Paizo's cleaning up. Part of me wonders if there was a bit of ballot stuffing going on....

That's always a possibility in any election but I doubt it in Paizo's case. Just look at their products: high quality, both in content and format; variety; consistent; etc. I would have been suspicious if some barely year-old startup garnered all these awards but Paizo's been around for years.

You know, for this statement alone, I could give you a HUGE "THANK-YOU-HUG"!

Exactly this family type atmosphere is what makes you a VERY SEPCIAL COMPANY. Your customer service (and warehouse staff) should get their own ENNIE! It was never easier for me (as a european) to get in contact with a company, get EVERY single eMail answered (and fast) and get even my most stupid questions answered at the boards. Thanx for being there, for caring for the fans and making my hobby the best time to spend (besides playing with my son ;).
I so hope to say high to you all one day at GenCon.
Greetings and a big THANK YOU FOR DOING IT THE RIGHT WAY from Germany,
Tom

Dang.. and here I was hoping to get a job as a janitor when you guys open up the Paizo Publishing Campus. Could be a good job... snoop in on the latest developments while I'm supposed to be cleaning. ;)

Hmmm WOTC has the giant Beholder.. you guys would need some life sized goblins I think. :)

The three on the cover of PF 1, actual sized, would be quite cool :)

See, it this sort of thing that makes you, your crew and Paizo much more than just a company. We, the customers, know some of the Paizo employees and contributors from their frequent interactions with us, so we tend to gain a sense of common ground with them that engenders a trust that they'll make products that we'll enjoy and want to buy.

So, congratulations! The awards you've won are well deserved.

And a big congrats right back at you Mike! You were a part of the team here at Paizo which got us all these awards. So take a well deserved bow my friend!

Paizo Employee CEO

I do want to add something to the posts here. The first people to come over and give us thanks for our win as Best Publisher were Scott Rouse, Chris Perkins, and Bruce Cordell from Wizards of the Coast. Andy Collins had to leave at the intermission, but made sure to come and congratulate us for all of our awards before he left. The gamer community makes a lot of the 4th edition vs. Pathfinder thing, but our industry is a small one and we are all friends to one degree or another. We may have a bit of a friendly rivalry, but I really want to stress the term "friendly." When WotC won for Return to Castle Greyhawk, Chris Perkins invited Erik, Jason, and James up on the stage with him for the thanks, since they wrote the book. Pretty darn cool, if you ask me.

In any case, I just wanted everyone to know what went down at the ENnies last night.

-Lisa

Congrats to Paizo! I told J.J. over on ENWorld I thought this would be the year you guys beat GR and WOTC. I'm very glad I was right, and may Paizo stay in the running for many years to come!

Hard work and dedication still pays off! Why? Because it creates the best RPG material on the market! Paizo rules!

Plus I jut want to mention it was your customer service that made me vote for Paizo with my number one slot.

I absolutely agree. I may be rooting for team Paizo these days, but I know that Chris, Bruce, and Andy are some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet (I'd comment on Scott, but I don't know him personally). I might have never gotten my break into the industry if it weren't for Chris. He'll always be the Obi-One to my Luke Skywalker.

i think this extends beyond your office doors. this place feels like family. yours is the first company i've ever dealt with that makes me feel like i am important beyond the few dollars i represent every month. it still amazes me the ammount of personal attention all of you give us on a daily basis, even with deadlines and shipping schedules and everything. don't change a thing, y'all are doing it right.

and congradulations on the awards, i can't think of a more deserving group of people for such recongnition :)

I don't think I could have put it any better myself.

Congratulations, to everyone!

Congratulations - I've been singing you guys praises for awhile now, and I'm glad I have some 'proof' to back up my claims now.

The Fans have spoken. :D

I wanted to also say congrats on cleaning up on the ENies. Well deserved for such an awesome company. Keep it up and as you can see you'll have customers for years to come.

This is fantastic guys!

Congrats!

Has there ever been such an amazing showing at the Ennies? I know they haven't been around that long, but who could have imagined such an amazing sweep?

Congrats Paizo!! I love you guys, and am very happy for you. Keep rocking the RP world!!

I feel like I'm late to the party, but congratulations all around. Hard work and a laser-point vision has made Paizo the very best.

I'd have to agree. Completely. Something about this place really gives it a great sense of belonging. I don't know how, but it feels like we're apart of the Paizo Family.

Enjoy the rest of GenCon (without much stock left).

The trouble is, now you [Paizo] will have to whip up a batch of 'ENnie award winning' stickers to slap on products for GenCon UK (and maybe adjust any banners you intend to have made for your booth there). This may be a good problem to have, however. :)

Dark Archive

I know I'm late here, but I just sorta came back from the Con, and I wanted to congratulate you guys on such an awesome showing at the Ennies. Rock on!

The response over these four days-- from the quick sellout of the printed Beta and Campaign Book to the Ennie wins and the turnouts for the Society events-- has to be everything you could have hoped. Just from the short talks I had with some of you at various con activities, it couldn't have happened to a nicer group of folks.

Lone Shark Games

It really was a great ceremony to be a part of. I got to present the Gold for Best Rules to Star Wars, which was great because a lot of friends worked on it, and the Silver to Trail of Cthulhu, which was great because a lot of friends worked on it. Plus I got an ENnie of my own for the Harrow deck (though if you know my positions on awards, you know I couldn't wait to get it off my neck, but whatever--my hang-ups can wait for another day).

Kevin Kulp, a friend from way way back, was a phenomenal host.

For me the highlight of the ceremony was Erik introducing Dave Arneson for Dave's lifetime achievement award. Erik was great (he's fast becoming the coolest guy to have on stage at these things), and then Dave brought the house down with some hysterical comments. When I grow up, I want to be Dave Arneson.

And yeah, it was a great night to be sitting with the Paizo guys, right between Vic and James Jacobs. I couldn't be happier for everyone at Paizo. What a great year, and I'm happy I got to be a small part of making it happen.

Mike

Congratulations, Paizo!

A sweet victory and well deserved.

Congratulations, filks!

I don't know how "important" the Ennies are, but you, as a team, have shown the way... home, since home is where the heart is.

Seems to me publishers only got what they deserved, in every case, no more and no less.

So, you guys at Paizo are highly deserving... well, there's a surprise. ;)

Congrats to you, and to the others who won Gold or Silver, and those who were nominated but didn't. Here's to the future health of roleplaying! :)

While I may have voted for some other things congratulations on winning a boat load of enies.

Lisa Stevens wrote:

Thanks to everyone for the congratulations! But we couldn't have done it without you! The ENnies are an awards by the fans and we couldn't have gotten any of these awards without the dedication and commitment of you guys! Yeah, I know that I am using lots of !!!!! in my post. I am a bit excited! :)

When we won the award for Best Publisher, I got a little misty eyed up on stage. It was just a year ago that we were releasing the last copies of Dragon and Dungeon and Paizo had a very uncertain future. But we poured our hearts and souls into our products and y'all have kept us in business by buying our products, evangelizing us to the uninitiated, and in short, helping us have the best year we have ever had. To defeat such stalwarts as White Wolf, Wizards of the Coast, and Green Ronin in the Best Publisher award speaks volumes for how far we have come in a single year.

I just wanted to take this moment to thank all of the incredible staff at Paizo who make my life SO much easier by making all the great products that we all enjoy. I always say that the key to success is surrounding yourself with great people, and I have some of the best ever at Paizo!

Likewise, you can't succeed without having awesome customers and y'all are some of the best I have ever seen in my 20+ years in this crazy industry. You make coming to work a real joy for me and my staff. Thank you!

Here's to an even better second year!

-Lisa

Build it and they will come. Print it and we will buy it!

Love live Paizo!

Scarab Sages

Another encouraging thing: not only did Paizo win a flaming metric assload of ENnies, but they won them in diverse categories for the same products, and for different products of different styles.

Friendly rivalry or not with WOTC, They left many of us for greener (and younger pastures) I am indescribably happy that Paizo ruled the Ennies (I thought they would, but 4th ed almost made me give up hope for the gaming industry)

you have all brought happiness and hope to a whole lot of my friends so congratulations!

(p.s. please keep showing the big boys how the game is played!)

Said it at Con,
And I'll say it again,
Pathfinder deserved this,
One hundred percent.

Liberty's Edge

As regards the 'family feeling' - I am on their reviewers list. When last December I had a stroke, my husband let my contact at Paizo know there might be a while before any reviews got written - next thing I know there's a "Get Well" card signed by darn near the whole company arriving, hotly pursued by a box of books to read 'when you feel better.'

Hey, folks - it worked. Almost full recovery and able to return to work. And reviewing, of course!

Hugs from Megan
