hi everyone. i am very new to this community, i started recently playing D&D 3.5, and, while i buyed the 4ed books, i am staying at 3.5 or (better, i think) PathFinder. I also buyed the Beta printed version. so, here are my thoughts:
- I will have some troubles because i am the only english speaker of my group... it's too early to think about a spanish version?
- the only thing i can ask for is a little more "pump" for the fighter, as Monte did in Book of experimental might 2 (maybe adding some possibilities to the feats or the "fighting styles" feats progression. i think that ranger and paladin could access them if they give up some of the class features). i think also in the fighting styles granting some "powers", like in Book of iron might.
- and why not set the minimum skill points to 4? (at least to the fighter... yeah, i really want a fighter more funny and versatile!).
just my two cents.
ah, and i REALLY like the artwork... it's just awesome!!! my desicion to buy the beta printed version was influenced at some point by the idea of the art in full color paper... congrats!

Welcome to the boards Roberto. Paizo can always use more suggestions. Feedback with suggestions is better than plain negative feedback.

Hey Dunadan!
First, welcome to the boards. Regarding you language problem - when I thought about changing from D&D1E to AD&D, the PlayersHandbook was available only in english as well, and I was the only person able to read it, but it worked without too much hazzle, as most players were eager to learn the stuff! Today we play in a mix of mostly german with A LOT of english stuff, regarding rules et al. We never translate a rule, we just read it aloud in case of any problems during game!
Anyway - "pump UP" the fighter?!
I am about to start RotRL next tuesday and our 1st level fighter is already a killing machine! Presently I don't think they need to be pumped up more!
But if you like to play a more versatile fighter, you might have a look at page 12 of the Gazetteer, where Fighters are talked about in general.
I hope it is ok to insert said text here (if not, Paizo hopefully deletes it and is not too angry at me!).
Here it goes:
Class Abilities: Numerous martial academies around the Inner Sea region teach weapon skill, tactics, diplomacy, and other tools useful for war. Fighters who attend these schools may choose to take additional class skills. Taking this option replaces the bonus feat gained upon taking the first level of fighter.
Class Skills: A fighter trained at a famous war college or fighting school gains the following class skills (in addition to the normal fighter class skills): Diplomacy (Cha), Gather Information (Cha), Knowledge (architecture and engineering) (Int), Knowledge (geography) (Int), Knowledge (nobility and royalty) (Int), Sense Motive (Wis).
Skill Points at 1st Level: (4 + Int modifier) x 4.
Skill Points at Each Additional Level: 4 + Int modifier.[/i]
Hope this helps!

first of all, thanks everybody for the replies.
That sounds terrifically powerful. Six new class skills and two extra skill points a level, all for your 1st-level class feat? That instantly falls into the category of "too good not to take", which is a clear sign that it's too good.
but if we base on that, then what about the rogue, with 20 class skills and 8 skill points per level???
i always remember the quote from PHB saying that the bandit king, the mercenary and the champion all were fighters... well, i think that they needed some multiclassing for that... :Sreally, the base class wasnt good, and this is better, but i dont think is competitive yet (yes i am basing my opinion in what i had read, but my next fighter will be one of these from PFRPG... well in fact i think all my characters will be of these!). And i think the 2 more skill points could be a way of mitigate the lack of prominence it has in non combat situations.
i started my first 3.5 campaign a couple of months ago, with a barbarian, a cleric and a fighter in the group... and the fighter wants to change the character from the third session of play. He just hadnt the same resources than the other classes... was overwhelmed by the combat efficiency of the barbarian (str 18, 2 handed sword, rage) and the "versatility" of the cleric (fight almost like he, and has spells). OK, maybe he selected the worst weapon combination of the game (sword + shield :S) and the worst class, but it wasnt his fault.
i mean, this is real, and the fighter of PFRPG is not so different on paper (maybe the feats). when i test a little maybe my feelings could change.
thanks again!

Welcome to the boards Dunadan.
I am sure you are going to hear everyone’s comments on “how to fix the fighter” and “ the cleric is too powerful”
The four basic characters, the Fighter Wizard Cleric and Rogue, all have their areas of expertise By working as a team they are able to handle a variety of situations. I have reservations about having a character that " can do everything well". Then there is no need for a team.
Perhaps the simplest way to broaden a character is to multi class.
For a more “ socially “ oriented fighter, Perhaps a level or two in swashbuckler from the complete warrior, or maybe taking a level or two in the “aristocrat “ NPC class.
There are also people who have worked out the “best combos” in the game. Statistically one can argue the Two-handed sword is the best monster killer in the game. A close second is the Spiked chain, for its incredible versatility. One think to consider is this. With the Barbarian wielding a great sword, he has the luxury of say, using some of the other feats, like Combat expertise, improved disarm, Improved trip, etc.
You have your damage dealer, and you guy with the two handed sword and shield has the luxury of finding another niche. Say has he looked at the Archery feats? While that barbarian is busy hacking away at monsters, your fighter can pick up a nice compound longbow and turn the enemies surrounding the barbarian into pincushions. Just a thought.
Good luck with the game.

Fighter is not the worst character to play IMO. If your fighter walks the sword/shield path then make sure that AC is your priority and take feats that benefit from this. Maybe the fighter won't do the best damage, but he has the ability to keep the monster occupied while the rest of the party does it's work. Even on 1st level he may be pretty hard to hit (+2 Dex +4 scale +2 shield and possibly +4 for mage armour and +1 for dodge)...23 isn't too bad...

We are working on a license with a top Spanish RPG company. More when we finalize the license. But help for the Spanish market is hopefully on the way!

As far as I've seen, the general fan consensus is that this also costs a Pathfinder Fighter his Bravery ability as well.
For 3.5 though, yes, it is in the category of too good not to take, unless you maybe dropped the fighter back to a d8 Hit Die.

...a small note, Mage Armour grants an Armour bonus, the same as regular armour so they do not stack.

yeah, i will try this! but with only two class skills from the given list, choosed by the player, maybe (hopefully) related to his PC background. and staying in 4 skill points per level. no feat loose...
As far as I've seen, the general fan consensus is that this also costs a Pathfinder Fighter his Bravery ability as well.
but, why? maybe not six, but at least two class skills... so unbalanced is that a fighter without multiclass can take care of a negotiation, or a castle site (or defense)? how bad is that he could, at the same time, be good riding AND climbing? yeah, i am still guessing here, but i will try this, definitely, starting today with a NPC fighter for this saturday session!! :D
anyway, i am glad to know that the spanish version is in consideration!!

I can almost see a variant of that Hilary Clinton ad:
"It's 2am, Sebastian torches a newbie in the off topic forum. Who do you want firing off the retort that restores balance to the messageboards?"
Vote Lisa for Empress of the World
How about Queen of the RPG Market?
You'd get my vote, Lisa.

As long as I can stay Emperor of the 7th dimension you can have this world. I'm done with it. :)
