Geez Rez! Why you hate'n? That thread was not so bad. At least YD figured out is Caps Lock half way through. I enjoy YD's posts; his players are lucky to have him as a DM.

Actually, I see nothing wrong with his posts. I read them to assist the OP in his/her inquiries and nothing more. If anything, they seem on point. If you are trying to ban this person from posting, I say you are going overboard . . . particularly given the amount of other posters who like to use this messageboard as their personal gaming blog sight.

By the way, "Spoiler" is there to hide information from others that may bear an impact on the outcome of some adventure, some movie, or the like. It's to alert the reader that the hidden information might giveaway something that the reader would rather not want to read. His responses didn't really merit a "Spoiler," unless I'm reading his responses wrong.

Maybe we can just put Yellowdingo on probation until he can learn to use the Spoiler button?

Or how about just an option to Ignore certain posters? Please ... anything.

Heck, make me a Moderator and I'll even edit the Spoiler Tag into the post.

But it really makes the threads tedious and drives me away from the Paizo forums and thus the Paizo website and thus the Paizo Store and Paizo products.

FWIW,

Rez

That's just YellowDingo - you get used to him. Any thread like that, and up he will pop. Frankly, there are a number of people who I would much rather ban than him, as he seems to be a generally ok, and polite, guy.

Not realy...I think what i posted in that economics thread would have looked nicer if you could post tables (columns and rows) from a microsoft word on this forum.

PS while we are on "Dingo's got a baby comments"...ther is an Aussie TV star called Ernie Dingo...and he was visiting Ayers Rock with his family when he stepped from his tent holding his baby...some "Wit" called out: "Someone get a Ranger...Dingo's got a baby!"

He was asking for that one.

I've always wanted to visit Uluru, but the place is just so damaged by tourism I don't have the heart.

Edit: In 2000 I planned to go to there and stay at that resort nearby. What was it, Alice Springs or some such? Dropped out for the reason listed above.

Uluru is the Resort...Alice Springs is like the suburb of Pine Gap millitary Facility (its full of American Families).

As much as it bothers me to no end, I seriously request an ignore function.

I will not write names, but there's a couple of users whose constant aggressive, derogative, berating, and sometimes downright insulting attitude are ruining the pleasure of perusing the boards, especially in the Alpha Release areas.
The old days 4E flamefests are nothing in comparison.

Please, don't think I make this request lightly. The Paizo boards are not the first web forum I spend some time in. I currently am a moderator in a largish forum dedicated to gaming (it's in italian, and it may not be safe for work, for those of you who like googling), and in the last seven years I've seen it all and some more.
I have enough self control to mentally skip bothersome posts - thank you mouse scroller! - but recently things have gone a bit off the mark. A bit too much.

Thanks.

Dark Archive

I agree in the Alpha playtest forums its getting to the point that you cant do anything without someone else calling you an idiot, questioning your real life qualifications then having the cheek of saying your the one flamebaiting.

It is never needed... But it can be helpful, not to mention humorous. The latter more in a chat environment...

Kruelaid wrote:

It would be convenient to Collapse or Ignore certain posts in threads you revisit as they update. Some posts are long, visually distracting or quote previous posts in their entirety just for a "me too" reply and so make finding content-oriented posts in a thread more difficult.

I don't live on these forums and don't read every thread as they update with each new post. It would occasionally be nice to Ignore certain people or Collapse certain posts once I've read them and deemed them uninteresting or distracting or off-topic so that hours or days or even weeks later I can come back to the thread and quickly and easily review old material and read new posts without all the distractions.

Besides...the ignore button doesnt block other people replying to an IGNORED person's posts, just your view (like putting a paper bag over your own head, now doesnt that sound stupid)?

Plus; you would need at least a line, stating "post by member X (ignored)...", or similar, otherwise, there could be a huge danger of misunderstanding, as posters react to an ignored post, and it appears to you that they are agreeing or disputing the one before.

And here's to dealing lightning with both hands.

I vote to ban all those mad lunatic wackos whith those childish, dumb, idiodic smurf avatars. They're the worst. Everyone who ever used one should be shipped to an island, and then they should do some violent and inhumane testing with that island, like test reality TV show concepts there.

What?

Why do they even call it a Gorgon in D&D, anyway?

Everyone knows the Gorgons were the three sisters with the snakey hair, of which Medusa was the most famous.

I suspect the metal-skinned bull, with the poison breath is a Babylonian or Assyrian legend, but I can't seem to get this confirmed, or what name the creature originally went by.

"gorgon" simply meant "terror" to the ancient greeks.

both the D&D "bull" gorgon and the D&D catoblepus come from late classical through early midieaval beastairies which gave those names (and thier attendent powers) to the wildebeast of africa, the remaints of this can still be found in the wildebeasts scientific names.

c gorgon - Collaborative International Dictionary of English v.0.48

Gnu \Gnu\, n. [Hottentot gnu, or nju: cf. F. gnou.] (Zool.)
One of two species of large South African antelopes of the
genus Catoblephas, having a mane and bushy tail, and curved
horns in both sexes. [Written also gnoo.]
[1913 Webster]

Note: The common gnu or wildebeest (Catoblephas gnu) is
plain brown; the brindled gnu or blue wildebeest (C.gorgon
) is larger, with transverse stripes of black on
the neck and shoulders.
[1913 Webster]

I know this one...it refers to a Scythian cultural object. A tripod from which is suspended a Brazier (with a Bull head Motif) You burned Hashish (or opium poppyseed resin) in it...hence the metal bull with poisonous breath.

You know what I want. A big red 'Ignore' button I can take with me anywhere I go. Then, when someone is being a jerk, I can just put it down on the table and press it and pretend they aren't there anymore. Who's gonna give me one of those, eh?

Sweet. Gotta get me one of those.

There will be no ignore button. That's essentially inviting people to participate in discussions while encouraging them to only listen part of the time. Conversations in forums that do allow "ignore" buttons often become redundant and confusing, because not everyone is working with the same data.

I like the ignore functions. Sometimes some people can't help but to get into each other's hair. If they could ignore each other, a lot of heated "discussion" could be avoided.

Vic Wertz wrote:

Fair enough. I have the same concerns, and I'm the guy who proposed it.

How about a Collapse, however? Once I've read a long or tedious or re-quote or half-dozen "me too" posts and know that I don't need them, I'd love to be able to collapse it the way I can with forums on the main page and then streamline my later review of the thread as it updates.

Thanks for considering,

Rez

This is a really, really bad idea. As much as I chuckle at the cries of "censorship" when people are asked to watch what they say and generally not make asshats of themselves, I would never support voting to ban people.

That way madness lies...

I could get behind ignore buttons, but "voting people off" just rubs me the wrong way. Of course, I don't have anyone rubbing me the *right* way at the moment, so perhaps I should just settle for what I can get.

How about a button that when pushed, executes a named poster. Off the top of my head, I could really use a Karelzarath button, a heathansson button, a Daigle button, a The Jade button, and a Fatespinner button.

Oooh! What about a button that shocks Cosmo when it's pushed. You could hook it up to a webcam so that we could watch.

Edit: How about a button that makes a frosty chocolate milkshake? I could really use one of those. Gary told me he can do it on the chat the other day. I have faith in him.
