Burnt Offering under PRPG ***Spoilers***

Alpha Playtest Feedback General Discussion

My players are close to finishing up Burnt Offerings, and we are converting to Pathfinder Alpha section by section.

I was considering the NPC's in the lower levels of Thistletop, and how the changes impact them. Of course they *can* be run as is, with no problem at all, but most are pretty minor changes (+2 Str for Orik, +2 Int for Lyrie, etc.).

I thought it might be interesting to repost updated NPC's here, but my main thought is regarding the main baddy:
[spoiler]Nualia benefits quite a bit from the changes. She's not human, so no ability score changes are included (yet at least). But she is 5th level, so gets one additional feat. And the feat she should take...

Turn Outsider (Evil).

The feat states that youc an choose to have your turn or rebuke affect outsiders of the chosen alignment as if they were undead. That means evil outsiders would be healed by her channeling of negative energy.

So Rebuke: 2d6 damage (Will DC 13 for half) to the party, 2d6 heal to her pet jackal as well as to herself, being an evil Outsider (and oddly still a good outsider as well).

I think that will ramp up the battle nicely.

Interesting. I can't help but wonder how much scarier Xanesha will be under the new rules. She'll get a sorcerer bloodline and extra feats.

Sorry but it does not work that way. The feat is badly worded but if you check page 44 where it talks about turning undead it says you can only do damage with the alternate turning feats.

Hmm, you're quite right - I was afraid I'd read that somewhere. I think it would work out fine for Turn Outsider to adjust it, but Turn Elemental makes it more odd (Negative energy channelers gain control of Elementals while positive damage them only?).

I'd interpret 'damage only' to include healing, but maybe that's just wonky me.

For the elementals, I'd link enslave to the heal effect, and turn to the harm effect, the same as it is for turn/rebuke. Example: A fire element channeling would heal fire elementals and damage (IIRC) air elementals. I'm not certain, not having looked, whether this deals fire damage to normal critters. But it seems like a burst of elemental energy rather than positive or negative energy, which is just three shades of mean. It also means there are potential 'Gandalf' moments for clerics where everyone else literally has to stand back and let the cleric handle things. (At least until after the cleric's first action.)

Oh, good lord. Does she need to be any scarier?

Spoiler:
My PCs got beat handily the first time they encountered her. They encountered her a second time when she tried to assassinate the Lord-Mayor, and she got away. They encountered her a third time in a side-adventure I threw in, and she got away after killing a PC. I placed her into the fortress of the stone giants, and they finally managed to kill her (although another PC got killed). I never increased her level or stats.

So let me get this straight if you take the turn elemntal feat and you channel the energy will not living creatures around you take the damage since you are channeling potentially harmful things

No, she doesn't need to be, but she will be anyway. She'll have more hit points, too.

But ...

Spoiler:
not giving her ranks in Fly skill might nerf her a bit.
