For the record, I should have gone to bed 2 hours ago, but I just couldn't help myself from staying up and reading the sweet, sweet crack that is Classic Monsters Revisited. Book like this are what I love. Ideas for a Hobgoblin slave lords are swarming around in my head. I want a Kobold Mastermind for a pet. And lets not forget the Goblins.

Love the book guy. Everyone that put alot of hard work into this project, I applaud you.

Just skimming it last night kept me up way past my bedtime.

I look forward to sitting down with it tonight in my Barko-Lounger, my Scotch-and-Soda, and some Classical music in the background....

Agreed!

This is one of the best supplements I've seen in a good long while.

For grins and giggles, I've been trying to figure out who wrote which monster...

For a real mind bender, imagine Redcloak reimagined as a Paizo Goblin.

Unfortunately I can't read PDFs unless my internet connection is down (my fingers get ADD - when I'm reading a real book they just play with the page corner, but with PDFs I end up reading the boards and only get a page or two looked at). So I can't look at it for a week or two when it comes in :(

Which one do you like best? That's the one I wrote. ;-)

For those of us whose orders weren't processed yet (*crosses fingers for Monday*) - what's the final list of monsters included? I remember seeing some really close to final lists, but wasn't sure what the final, final one was.

Thanks!

Hey Ken,

The monsters included are Bugbears, Gnolls, Goblins, Hobgoblins, Kobolds, Lizardfolk, Minotaurs, Ogres, Orcs and Trolls.

I've made it through bugbears and gnolls this evening and, so far, it's a big thumbs-up!

What's the average page for each race?

Each race gets 6 pages.

Sounds really good... Have to wait till we get the Big Gov check to get the book. :-(

Anyone have any idea what the crocottans, referenced in the gnoll section are?

"Crocutta" is the scientific name of the hyena. It's possible that crocottans are a Paizo-fied OGL version of the leucrotta, a hyena-like monster that's been around in D&D for forever (but, since it got slotted into Monsters of Faerun, isn't in the SRD).

I was hoping that this is what it was, although, there's no mention or reference to it. I wonder if it got cut...

I really hate it when they do that; they did the same thing with the 2nd Edition Monstrous Compendiums, put generic creatures in a setting-specific product.

I'm OK with it, I just want to know what it is that they're refering to - either a generic creature or some variant monster that got cut from the original text...

The leucrotta is a classic mythological monster (albeit little known). Its WotC stats might not be OGL, but there's nothing preventing Paizo from using the name.

Anything else sourcebook-ish I should be adding?

Guide to Korvosa is pretty durn cool. Await the Gazetteer, arriving soon-ish, and the Hardcover Campaign Setting in August.

The only one I know for sure is that Nick wrote the ogre. I suspect James wrote the goblin entry. I suppose I'd guess Bull-man on the minotaur, not just because it is amusing.

One better. It showed up in the Wizard's Amulet, which is open content IIRC :-)

Yup; I did indeed write the Goblin entry.

Hey, James. Any idea what a crocottan is from the gnoll chapter (yes, I am obsessed)?

Thanks.

I'm not showing a PDF option to purchase, only print. Is this intentional? If so, why?

Mike McArtor wrote the gnoll chapter. I just yelled across the room to ask him what's up. He told me to check the wikipedia page for crocotta.

Basically, it's a regional variant name for "gnoll" though.

SCORE!

Although I don't have a copy of this book. If (WHEN) we put a leucrotta into the game, I suspect we'll just stat him up as a new monster in a Pathfinder bestiary or something.

If you have a subscription, you get PDF copies of the books you have subscriptions to for free. They are available for you to download as soon as your print copy ships.

We send out our subscription copies a few weeks before the book's street date, when it can be sold in stores, so that, in theory, the subscribers get it first (another benefit to subscribing).

The PDF of a book doesn't actually go on sale as a stand-alone product until that street date, which hasn't yet hit, I don't think, for this book. But it should be sometime soon.

Hey James,

The Wizard's Amulet is a free download on the Necromancer Games website. It was the first 3rd-party adventure published under the 3.0 OGL, released at midnight the day the OGL went active. Definitely a must-have for historical reasons if nothing else. I don't know that it's available in print though.

Seriously, it was a great chapter, though

Excellent. I had looked it up on Saturday and was hoping that's what it was.

Thanks.

Seriously, Mike, great work. I love this book, and the gnoll chapter is one of the many highlights.

Yea, one of only 10 highlight chapters.

ACK!

This means if I purchase but don't have a subscription I have to pay the 12 bucks to get the PDF?

NOOOOOO!

Free PDFs are the benefit of being a Chronicles subscriber! (Note that you still have a few days to subscribe and still be able to start your subscription with Classic Monsters!)

As a Pathfinder subscriber, of course, you would get the Pathfinder Advantage discount of 15% off the PDF (or off the subscription products, should you choose to go that way).

I've been "Pending" since last week, so I'm shaking so hard 'cause I'm Jonesin' so bad.

All I want are the .pdfs... that will at least give me that sweet injection of liquid Paizo to the veins that I have been craving, before I get hit with the all powerful Hard Copies.

Wait. You mean I can still subscribe to Chronicles in time to get the benefits on Monsters Revisited?

You test my will and pocket severely, Paizo...

Buy it. It is a great book. Pushing the best of the Pathfinder volumes for my favorite Paizo product status. And I've already used the PDF for a keyword search less than a week after getting it.

Subscribing just means more good stuff!

My will was tested, and I rolled a 1. Damn you Paizo, and damn you Vic! *sighs* I console myself that while i may die poor due to my failure of my trusty d20, at least I will go surrounded by incredible game books :)

Seriously though, I'm glad you pointed that out, otherwise I would have bought the book and then later subscribed anyway. Best to get the extra benefit now instead of waiting ^_^
