Oh, yeah; Shiny.....
I remember you were saying that this really awesome design guy gave a presentation at your school, and everybody acted immature and ignored him. I looked him up at the time, but I don't remember his name; his work WAS extremely recognizable to me in modern media.....
I've been kinda in the same situation; they bring high school kids around for me to explain what I do at work and stuff....
when a couple of kids seem bored with my trifling pap, I blow them off. They don't get to learn kung fu. They get to stand at the door.....so to speak.
But if one kid is tweaking on what I do, I won't feel like I'm wasting my time and energy trying to show him something.....
so if you're in a position to run up and tell that presentor guy you really appreciated what he presented and you learned something, it'll make his day sometimes. S@*~, maybe ask him for one of those internships if they do that. That'd be awesome on a resume..., to do an internship at THAT guy's institution.
He'll feel like going there and presenting that spiel wasn't a total waste of his time and energy, man. If ONE. PERSON. was affected positively......that's all you can ask for.
Unless he's a total asswad, or in a bad state, oftentimes he'll be appreciative. Hell, he might even give the presentation next year.
Most college kids are douchy though. I know this, having been one at times.

A little random, but thank you all the same. I appreciate your thoughts, man.
Another thing: I hate "talking shop," so to speak, in your discussion thread, but everyone else they've brought in to speak has been a complete M@#*%*~+*~ only wanting to promote their s$~#. It feels like a waste...

Mirko Ilic is one of the most hardcore people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. If he doesn't like you, or any aspect of your personality or what you do, he will tell you. Immediately. I'd never be able to work for him, but I can sure as hell spread the word.

Erin's out of the hospital, but she's been placed on strict bedrest until the baby's due - i-e. mid- to late January. No work, no walks, no nothin'. Hopefully it'll be enough to help her recover.
Good to hear Vatts. If it’s any consolation, that scenario is far more common than you might think, and often for a longer period of the pregnancy. Hope all goes well … and that your lady has a few good books to read!

True - Andrea had diabetes in the later stages with James and was pretty feeble for the last couple of months. I hope Mrs Vatters and baby are fine and takes it easy, but pregnancy is pretty scary for all concerned - especially the first time around. Of course, I'm an old hand now....
Hey Mothy, how's Baby Abigail and Partner-of-Moth?

![]() |

The caterpillar and mothette are both doing well. Home from the hospital last week, and neither seem too traumatised by the whole experience. Abigail is still at the stage where she is sleeping a lot, although as she is so tiny and doesn’t have a big stomach capacity she is feeding every three hours or so, which doesn’t really allow for a solid night’s sleep, but not too bad all up. She is gaining weight at the expected rate, is in good health, exceedingly cute and getting a lot of attention from relatives and strangers alike.

No gestational diabetes or whatnot, but my wife had her gallbladder out when my first was in utero.....good times!
I'm sorry about the delays; I was kinda bummed out by Vatty's initial news and wasn't in a mood for gaming.
Now, I'm thinking that I'm trying to figure out how to regroup this thing. I'm guessing Vatty might be kinda busy for the next while; I might restream the game or something....I don't know yet(?) I'm seeing if he's around, or gonna have to be kinda gone for a while.

Erin has astronomically high blood pressure - stroke-risk levels. However, she seems to be fine if she lies down on her left side, so that's what she'll do for the next month or so. It's a long time to spend on one side, but it is better than having a stroke.
To me, it seems like we'll have to go for a cesarean birth rather than a natural birth - not what we wanted, but, again, better than having a stroke. We'll see in a couple of weeks. Until then, we'll need to convince the insurance company that she's not faking illness in order to deprive its stockowners of even more profit. Fun...
So, to sum up - I don't think anyone's in danger anymore, but we are probably looking at surgery and premature birth. As an added bonus, she might actually not get any time off from work after giving birth as we have to use her disability insurance before the actual birth takes place. Gotta love America, its employers and its healthcare system...
Things have slowed down a lot over the last day or so. Give me a day and I'll be back on the PBPs.

Ragadolf |

Wow. God bless America! (SOMEbody needs too!) ;P
Hang in there Vatt! (And Mrs Vatt too!) :)
Heathy, I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's about that time of year when ALL the pbp's take a major hit-or-miss as far as keeping the pace up goes. (That's been my experience anyway.)
Keep up as best we all can, declare a hiatus for a couple of days, or just slow down a little from our usual frantic pace are probably the basic 3 choices you have. I think that everyone enjoys hanging out in your thread too much to worry about losing us! ;P
I'm good with whatever you decide. It'll all work out in the end, and when Vatt Jr comes along, Vatt will be looking for PbP time to get away from diapers! :D
(You can't escape them, of course. But it's fun to pretend!) :)

She's good on the left side, OK on the right side and not good at all when standing up or sitting. At this point we're just trying to keep the baby's inside for as long as possible - the goal now is to last out the year. We'll see the doctor tomorrow, so it will be interesting to hear what she has to say.
Having said that, she's doing pretty good considering her condition. She has no signs of organ failure or blood vessel damage, and the baby seems to be doing well. I'm spending the days making her food, going shopping, doing the laundry and generally being domestic, as she can only leave the bed to go to the toilet. So far she's taking it well, but I'm sure she'll get seriously sick of it in a week or two, especially considering that we're pretty active people. She's already bummed about not being able to walk the dog...

I really think the health scare is over, though she could have been in serious trouble if she had kept working (we only found out about the blood pressure through a rescheduled health checkup - her regular one was due next Friday, and I hate to think what those two extra weeks of stressed-out work would have done to her). I'm more worried about the insurance matters now, though I'm sure it will sort itself out eventually.
Myself, I have a hard time giving a s$&* about anything else right now. I just got a teaching job at the local community college, and should be designing my syllabi and boning up on the material, but I haven't even opened the book yet. While the pay is absolute garbage, it'll look good on my CV, so I should put some effort in, but... So I'm passing the time with good music, reading good books and trying to snap out of it. I'll be better this week - and since we won't be able to go anywhere for Christmas I'll be able to put in some time then.

My wife almost popped when she was pregnant, too. Then a week after she almost died. I basically carried her into the emergency as she blacked out from blood loss.
Childbirth can be seriously scary business. I'm glad to hear she ain't working. And watch her close.
Insurance company. F#~%in' Christ. I ain't saying nothin or it'll launch a rant.

The last month is bad anyway - I don't think too many women stay super-active under those circumstances. Glad they caught it, and hopefully are keeping an eye on it.
And yes, thank goodness for the NHS (or the Canadian or Nowegian equivalent). It baffles me why some Americans think their system is so great (Heathy excepted, who KNOWS the truth, man!) - if you want to be screwed over and left for dead, let an insurance company look after your health. I worked for one for three years - total villains. Yep, sign me up as a socialist.

She was better then the current bad weather and her being a workaholic led to cold=flu=steriods and asthma again. But most of the time you wouldn't know looking at her, very active my girl.
I think its more of a life long problem, something we have to get used to happening, especially in winter.
Erin is a great name by the way, it was on our short list for our daughter.
Cheers

*sigh*
I'm glad everyone's family members are doing well this holiday season.
Heath, I'm thinking about a sabbatical for the Christmas season. If you wanna have Pip in the background, just have him cast haste and sing his +3 song for everyone. If not, have him wander off. Take care.

Erin's back in the hospital, and this time they are keeping here there until she gives birth. That could be tomorrow, or it could be in a month - however, they've started to pump her full of steroids to strengthen the baby and help her prepare for an early exit. Something tells me I'll be a dad a bit before I originally thought...
