OK, something I haven't really wrapped my head around in Pathfinder - if I get a permanent boost to Intelligence, do I get retroactive skill points for my new Intelligence? I'm thinking no.
If I get a boost to Intelligence from a magic item, do I get skill points for the effective Intelligence score? Would I lose the extra points if the item were removed? Would I regain those points if I got it back?
Trying to decide how many skill points I should have, obviously, and this character is my first in a long time where I would consider an INT-boosting item...

Heh, I am enjoying the 'creation' and side chat as much as I am enjoying the game! :)
BTW, MArdi Gras weekend here, which you'd THINK would mean I'd have time on my hands, but as the family is all out of school too, means usually,... No. I don't ;P
So in short, might not get to post much until Ash Wednesday. But I'll try to keep up.
Right on.
My wife's uncle finally did pass away, so I'll be sparse the next few days and gone for Tues and Wed from Paizo; got stuff to take care of.
Trying to wrap my head around today's developments. Man I worked 8 1/2 hours today, so bear with me....

I believe I am ready. Character history is not as detailed as I would like, but it's all I can manage right now. :)
Looks good; like the messed up memory schtick, cos it gives the ability to let me make stuff up later and say "oh.....your amnesia wore off a little bit."

I'll see what I can figure out; I'm not sure either. I get jacked by the devil in the details quite a bit.

No retroactive skill points. INT-boosting items come with built-in skills of your choice. You get 1 skill per +2 INT bonus, and 1 skill rank per character level (these improve as you gain levels). Thus, as you are level 14, the device gives you 14 ranks in 1-3 skills, depending on the INT bonus. Naturally these are lost if you lose the item.
Altai has a +6 INT thingy - it gives him 14 ranks in Bluff, Diplomacy and Intimidate.

For hit points, is it a single roll? Single roll, minimum half a hit die? Dual roll, take the best? Re-roll 1's? Some combination of the above?
Here's what I have so far: Emrael Bladewalker

Yeah; you roll the dice, and if it's under half you get half.
Well, then, here goes nothing:
14d8 ⇒ (2, 3, 1, 5, 8, 8, 2, 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 2) = 62
Ouch. Let's see, I have (5, 8, 8, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) = 51 that are keepers and six dice that total 11 that get swapped out for 24 hp and a total of 75 before CON and favored class bonus, which brings it up to 103.
Now I don't feel so bad about my insane AC.

Emrael:
Wa was historically owned by your people; humans came later and trashed up the place. Many elves went back to the First World; the Elves of 1,000 Pines, though.....they stayed behind, to ward that Sacred Isle.
That's my idea anyway......
Tell me whenever you're ready, and I'll start working you in to the mix.

Her background is percolating in my mind, but I have not had time to write it down and get the crunch right (or I hope it's right - maybe someone can check my work).
Just threw something together in the spoiler; if it's dippy you can do something else.

Condolences Heathy.
I keep thinking of myself as young (probably just because I hang around the 20-somethings at the university) But it seems like I've reached the point where life has stopped giving me friends, and started taking them away.
Of course, life is also now giving me grandkids, so I'm not mad at God or anything. :)
/Ramble. Condolences Heathy, My thoughts are with you and your family. :)

This is great. The background that I have in mind is older, more history, so this gives me a place to set my hook.

Yeah, you're hard to hit...
BTW, what's the deal with your sword? Your crit range is 15-20, but you don't have Improved Critical
I probably overdid it on the AC items. I was concerned about the fact that she is not proficient with any armor, so I was layering defenses and I had a pretty healthy budget... I got carried away.
But I don't think it's actually too out of place, at the same time.

I gotta crash. It's kinda an impromptu meet n greet in the game thread. Dok is there; anybody else who's done making a character can cruise up and start talking if they want.
There's a tanuki there, with a wand of comprehend languages; feel free to join in or not and parley with the group......
I'll be gone from Paizo until at least Wednesday night, maybe Thursday, so check you fellows later.
AinvarG |
Yeah, next I need to find some sort of way to upgrade my armour so that I can apply the full dex bonus to AC ...
Or swap the chainshirt for Bracers of AC +8 or better.
Funny thing is, I'm seriously considering a downgrade of the Bracers to +5 to save myself 11K to spend elsewhere.

A couple of questions about Planar binding.
A) I can bind something with up to 12 HD. Some of the more interesting creatures (garuda, lammasu, some archons) have 8-11 HD. Is it OK to summon a creature with some class levels to boost them to 12 HD, or is this terribly cheesy? Some examples are obviously preposterous (i.e. celestial black pudding barbarian 2). However, as an example, a lammasu has 9 HD and casts spells as a level 7 Oracle. Can I summon a lammasu Oracle 3, which would have 12 HD and CL 10?
B) Do bound creatures benefit from my Augment Summoning feat?
Vattnisse |
B) It says "summon" spells, so I don't think so.
I agree. Though the ally is obviously summoned from somewhere, it isn't called up with an actual Summon monster spell.
I'm torn on what to summon, though. A garuda Sorcerer 1 is pretty badass - a surprisingly tough Sor 8 who can fly and is a lethal ranged combatant. A lammasu Oracle 3 is a less capable combatant, but is an excellent healer and all-round support character. Other alternatives are a movanic deva or a shield archon Pal 3. Choices, choices...
