Just checking,
After all, we went off expecting to pillage some lizards, and ended up saving them instead! Just wanted to make sure that we weren't getting a rep as the biggest pushovers in the adventuring world! (Yes, I know we're greedy, bloodthirsty pirates, but could you big, bad adventurers pleeze take care of teh scary temple for us?!?!?!) ;P
"Here come the regulators. Let's get all weepy and have them slay our enemies."

Cool; can't wait til I can see it next weekend!
I think you'll probably like it - but I won't spoiler it for you beyond that.
I'm not a huge Trek fan really, though I kind of enjoy it. The hard-core 'canon must be adhered to' Trekkies might have some issues with it, and there are certainly a few logic gaps and plot holes here and there, but I thought it was a good, fun, well done movie for the most part.

Yes, I broadly concur with Mothy's assessment. The cast were good (I thought the new Dr McCoy was the most "authentic" but they are all believable, and it was weird that Spock was getting tons of action from Uhura, but hey, and Simon Pegg's Scotty was a bit OTT for my tastes) and it was well done. The only minor problem I had was:
but apart from that, it was pacey and enjoyable (and standard uniform for women is still a mini-dress like back in the good old days - well-played, say I). I didn't really see it as being stylistically all that different from previous Star Trek films, to be honest, though.

I was (pleasantly) surprised to see they kept the mini-skirts; I thought they would be gone. I thought visually the designers did a really good job of keeping the feel and style of the original series while updating it so that things didn’t look dated. That goes for uniforms, ship interiors and exteriors, weapons etc.
Simon Pegg (or the Shaun of the Dead Guy as I know him) was a bit over the top, but I expect little else from him, and it didn’t bother me. Also didn’t bother me that he’s British (or is he Welsh?) rather than Scottish, whereas it did bother me a little that they got the Harold and Kumar Guy to play Sulu, even though he’s Korean rather than Japanese. The accent of the guy playing Chekov was a bit OTT too, but probably no more so than the guy in the original series (my memory is a bit hazy on that).
Yeah, I thought the Heroes Guy did a great job as Spock and the Lord of the Rings Guy was really good as Bones.
As for the other thing:
I also thought it was a bit of a stretch about how all these cadets and recent graduates suddenly found themselves one by one in positions of authority. I could gloss over it and enjoy the story, but it was more than a bit improbable really.
Again, my Star Trek Fu is weak, but did Romulan ships ever look anything like that before? Looked cool, but not anything like how I remember Romulan ships looking (don’t they use Warbirds or something?). Yeah, I know, this was a mining ship not a warship … pretty good weaponry for a mining ship didn’t you think?

What did Karl Urban do in LotR?

Hey, did I miss any loot while I was gone?
Nope - the snakemen had two weird lightning-thrower things, but Stig wouldn't know how to use one. No other loot beyond that. Beldan carries one, the other one is currently unassigned.
Also, I saw the Star Trek movie a couple of weeks ago. I know absolutely nothing about the Trekiverse (the only figure I recognise is Spock), but I thought it was an enjoyable sci-fi romp.

Um, strike that. I had forgotten how long you'd been away. For all the fights up to now, you get 2853 gold, 7 silver and 5 copper.
We also have these two undistributed items:
- +2 amulet of natural armor
- torc of displacement 3 charges/day...1 charge 20% miss, 2 charges 30% miss, 4 charges 40% miss for one round, using charge is immediate action
Any of them look interesting? In addition, Gittik needs to sell some loot.

I knew I should have gone with “The Doom Guy”. In LotR he played Eomer, Theoden’s nephew.

It's one of those perfect books.
I thought of you with the English bookkeeper turned swashbuckler who
Stranger Tides spoiler;
I've been looking for it for ages.

I guess I'm about halfway through it....I don't have the time I used to to marathon read books; I used to read a 300 page novel in an evening. The kinda evil guy

The only downside....
with Greyhawk, since "St. Cuthbert o th Cudgel" apparently bopped over from "earth," I have to fight the urge to have Edward Teach, aka Edward Thatch, aka Blackbeard make the jump too....this is especially hard since the game Skull and Bones has him statted up for normal world stats as well as "actual voodoo witchdoctor" stats.

The Anubis Gates is a must-have. Slightly slow to start but then it goes mental.

Oh, and here's a question....
I have a four day weekend starting Friday, during which I plan to do a bit of building. I usually build...not too too far ahead for this game, it's just how I work.
But anyway's I was wondering...this chapter is pretty near to closing, so we could either
(1) head right for the Isle of Dread or
(2) find some excuse for you guys to bop around getting in adventures in Sasserine; that city IS a mere few day's sail away.
What's your fancy?

After reading this, I need to check out those books.
Also, some guy up in the Tides of Dread thread had made some insane Sasserine PDFs - 90+ pages. I think I have them on one of my external drives - I could email them to you if you want them. I haven't looked much at them; they're mostly cultural/historical stuff and some maps.
