It sucks, man.
I have a Dungeon with all the Anderhoff guys in it, and I don't know where I put it so I had to totally redo these gits last night.
I don't even remember all their names, so these guys are Sandy and Randy the big beefy twins with the hammers. The names were in the DMG II, but not who's who...
Riese and anybody who has been in Saltmarsh for a few months knows who they are.

IDK--I'll peruse his sheet.
Off to wiki azaleas...
Dude, my daughter and me are driving home from school today and she goes "Look at all the beautiful azaleas at that house!" and I immediately said in my head "Must be one hell of a cult to Demogorgon there. Hope some heroes come by and root it out!".
BTW- I have 7 or 8 azalea bushes in my yard.....MuUUUAHHHAHAHAHAHHHHHAaaaaaaahahahahaha!

It's all good, dog.
I'm thinking and wondering about things.
I'll blab more about it later; I'm at work and I don't wanna sit here getting all essaypostish.
I think it's good things though. Good things, like about the nature of the cleric class in general, and what could be done to transmogrify it from "a combat medic who can sorta hit somebody every once in a while, and has a halfass decent spiritual weapon at 3rd level or whatever, but the rest of the time he perches on his thumb" into something almost worth playing.
dungeonmaster heathy |
I'm just wondering, Alex; is it like the game isn't working, or is the cleric not working, or is it something else?
At first I was like, "well this dude's busy or something, so he doesn't post much." But then you look like you're all over your other pbp game. I don't mean to be a dick at all, but if it's a problem I'm down with trying to fix it. My first thought, based on observation, is that the cleric class is kinda bletchy at times in combat. This can be handled.
I've had Rifts games where one guy was a spellcastery guy and everybody else was all guns and ammo, and the spellcastery guy got bored and drifted away. So, I have to freely admit that my style of running a game might be the culprit.
Also at the time I was like, "yeah, well f#~# him. I'm the greatest d.m. there ever was, he just can't play worth a crap." I regret that asinine opinion along with most of the general asininity of my twenties.
Alex Martin |
Thanks for asking. I know this sounds dumb, but I don't know that I have a good reason. Something just hasn't clicked, and it isn't your style of DMing.
This game has been frickin' hilarious and great fun; so it's not your game.
I would probably say that I am playing the character too conservatively, and that clerics tend to have that quality of "needed now" then not at all. So I either need to make myself more impactful or just be more attentive when combat starts.
Also, and this isn't a criticism, the pace seems so rapid fire that by the time I respond I feel like I am totally lost - that's kind of making it hard to keep up - which in turn makes it hard for me to get in a good post. (By good, I mean accurate and helpful - I tend to be a perfectionist on these things.)
Finally, you're not inaccurate when you say I am swamped with work - my window of response tends to be either early morning or late evening. In other Pbp's, I usually only respond once/twice a day - and the pace has been such that it isn't an issue. Some combats have taken a week to finish; ours seem like they are done in a hour of Pbp. Again, not a critique, just not used to it.
So, you can call me a lazy SOB or just attention deficient. But I plan on sitting down later today and get back in the flow of things. I just wanted to apologize, because I just haven't been paying attention like I should. It maybe partially a class thing; but I just need to do some adjustments as well.

I mean, the main thing I see about the cleric, though, is he shoots 10 crossbow bolts and finally hits somebody.
That'd bore me too, or it did, but I kinda tend to "self entertain" by playing vulgar gluttonous drunkard clerics for s#+&s and giggles, or....clerics that are....too normal...
I was thinking we could slap on a war domain, leave everything else as it is, and give him a weapon to use or something so he doesn't have to sit there missing with his crossbow 10 times or whatever.
I think the mages with their combat wands are happy, and the druid with his premature wildshape is pretty snazzy, so I got a cleric guy who's shooting the walls up with crossbow bolts; I should hook him up too somehow.

I usually don't mind playing clerics; most of my parties tend to jump in and get mangled enough that I'm really busy. I'm kind of enjoying playing the somewhat straight arrow to the wackiness - like "what the hell have I gotten myself into?". You are certainly keeping it open and flexible for all, Heathy.
Overall, that sounds like a good idea. As long you don't think we'll get too unbalanced - I'll add the War domain to my list. Also, the heavy mace is fine by me; so no worries about weapon changes on that front. Although a snazzy new crossbow (or maybe some magical bolts would be cool) wouldn't be frowned. Anything else I would need to do as far as character changes?
Let me know what is acceptable and workable for you, man. I don't want to bog you down with more work; I appreciate just getting a chance to throw in some feedback.
dungeonmaster heathy |
Naah. I think that'll get it.
You guys got 1,000 g.p. from Saltmarsh, and the house loot that's still maybe not divided, so go to town.
I reckon slap him on a war domain, and the extra spells from that domain a day on top of the other two domains (choose either/or of them each day per usual) and we can roll like that.
If it becomes a balance issue, we can tweak more stuff on down the line, but if the cleric can actually brain a scumbag once in a while I don't think that my game universe will get out of hand.
dungeonmaster heathy |
Oh, and I may reserve the right to equally bolster any and all "azalea-gardening" clerics; i.e. according to Tobus Neth, azaleas out front of a house DOES INDEED mean that the homeowner is a Demogorgon cultist.
(LOL!!!)
There's a war in heaven, man. All the clerics need the war domain!!!

This stuff was on Stig's character sheet, I'm not sure how much was repeated...
herbs and spices(100gp)
masterwork rapier(duelist)
masterwork dagger(duelist)STIG
masterwork chain shirt(samurai)
masterwork katana(samurai)
masterwork battleaxe(berserk northman)
About 400 gold pieces in coin and other stuff.
50 gp
mwork heavy flail (a medium sized dude can wield 2-handed)
a pouch with 5 pearls; worth about....hmm....100 g.p. each
monk:
a set of gold teeth; 200 g.p. AUBREY
the other guys:
mwork long sword
mwork short sword(small sized from the halfling rogue)
the halfling had two potions which she says are "potions of cat's grace."
400 g.p. in misc. coin and tradable items of ltd. interest
2x150 g.p. diamond earrings (on the foppish trashtalking rapierman)
There's about 2,000 g.p.(retail) in kegs of rum, beer, bolts of cloth, and kegs of vinegar; smuggler's goods
The table in the room where the halfling was is covered with black tarry substance in forearm-sized rolls of paper; some were being put into sealed glass jars and put in the vinegar kegs.
Add to Kruelaid’s list, Beldan has 620gp, 5 potions and a wolfskin cloak (which he thinks looks stylish and he’d like to keep).
Some of the stuff on the above list was magical, can’t recall what. If the rapier was (DM SAYS NO), Beldan will take that. If not, he’ll keep the one he’s got.
Don't forget to take s#+# you need before we sell this crap. Or is this where we got that 1000 gp?

The great thing about the squabbling brothers is that they seem real enough that I almost feel bad about snuffing them. Even though they are drug-smuggling, sociopathic scum.
Kudos, Heathy!
BTW, I feel a bit the same way about the Golarion goblins - they might be vicious and cruel, but they also seem like children. Stupid, evil children, but it still makes me stop and think a little. Run-of-the-mill monsters they ain't.
dungeonmaster heathy |
Aaah, no way.
I've been playing the adventure out as-is in a void of metaplotless bliss, always in the back of my mind trying to nail down the angles of an actual "Adventure Path." And as it becomes by inches more concrete, so then I can actually start to allude to the future a little bit more.
I had a theory as to the content of the AP immediately following The Savage Tide that did not include said AP being nonexistant. As such, all those theories having been on the backburner for a year and a half slowly bubbling, the fumes thereof infesting my grey matter, begging to be given some form of existence.
I also wanted to make up some kind of "holy gun" as a divine equivalent to fakey's battle wands, but I could come up with nothing that did not hearken back to the Monty Python Grail "holy hand grenade."
dungeonmaster heathy |
I guess with people gone, Tobus, Fakey, whatnot....Aubrey back soon, it's good and cool to go ahead and do your equipment shopping and kick back, ask the bigwigs a question or three, interrogate Randy.
The next encounter....the b&$@&e's brew is almost done brewing. It's gonna get freaky, man....freaky. I should do some writing.

Great characters on the 'Brothers Kara-Dum-Koff', I'm still laughing!
Well,...Snap, Crackle and Pop! I just realized that I've been so busy, I still haven't updated to next level! DO we have an approx XP amount from before this last fight? I've been a little (too) lax on the bookkeeping end. Mostly just hanging out and having fun!
Elgan goes over to the still living one-armed brother and assumes his elvish shape again. He watches Altai work to aid the fallen man, and with a nod of approval, bends over and mutters in the language that sounds of trees and rivers. Altai feels a brief, cool breeze pass by, and the man's arm stops gushing blood.
I see that you let him live Heathy, but I wanted to contribute! Elgan burned a cantrip to power a Cure Minor Wounds, just to make sure that the guy makes it through.

Yes everythings finally ok- Cable company had to run new lines up the whole street. five days without sucked the big one.
That would send me jonesing like Robert Downey Jr. at the Betty Ford clinic.
But then I have an office computer and there's a cybercafe downstairs so it couldn't happen.
