Arrrggg!!!! This Suspense is Killing Me!

RPG Superstar™ 2008 General Discussion

I can't stand it! Where the heck is everybody?

The judges have the proposals of the final four in their hot hands, but none of the compeitors has jumped up to say "Boo!" and "Oh Thank The Evil Overlords Above, It's Done!" Not only that, there hasn't been been any other threads on the Superstar message boards so I'm going crazy waiting for voting to start on the 14th....

I agree, I've been expecting some little post from one of the judges (Clark), since I think every other round he's put some comment or other during the judge review phase about how good the entries were.

Don't tell my wife that I'm looking forward to reading the final 4 entries more than Valentine's day tomorrow!

Dark Archive Contributor, RPG Superstar aka Leandra Christine Schneider

I can only speak for myself, but I've been writing (deleting and rewriting) so much in the last days that I really needed time to catch up with all the other things I neglected.
Especially uni gave me a hard time because I made it suffer badly to get more time to work on my submission :P

Now I'm in a state of mental numbness (you could say I feel mind-flayed) and my sleep pattern is completely out of bounds (it is 4:30am in Germany right now and I can't go back to sleep).
Hmmm...I could finally start to clean my place I guess...it really needs it.
While it won't be fun, it will at least help me to avoid thinking about tonight *awww*

Oh, no. Tomorrow is Valentine's day, too?

I'll need to get any tokens purchased before noon Pacific time, or my eyes will be too bloodshot to shop.

Come on, come on, noon tomorrow. Bring me four adventures!

P.S. Thanks, Christine, for taking the time to let your Paizo people know how you're doing.

The entries are truly awesome. Each is a publishable submission, no doubt. In fact, I am having to change my review strategy from a grade to comments and recommend or not recommend, based on some objective factors (things that could have made the submission better or more successful for the designated submission) and objective, in other words: would I publish it. I'm still grading, but this is real subjection. Moreso than other rounds.

Like Christine, I've been so busy catching back up on Real-Life-Stuff(TM) - which, for me, of course, includes making silly movies about drinking, sex and D&D - that I've hardly had time to play around on Paizo at all.

. . . not that I haven't, you know, ALSO been haunting the site in my spare time, wondering aloud at how this place is going to BLOW UP at Noon-Pacific, Valentine's Day.

I'm giddy. Anybody else giddy?

Legendary Games, Necromancer Games

ME.

I can't wait to see how this all turns out.

I am dying to find out what the voters do.

I've been a bit busy as well. Plus, I didn't want to be the first to stand up and say, "Is anybody out there?"

But now that people have started posting, I'm getting excited and nervous, and yes, giddy! And since I'm on European time, I have a WHOLE DAY of work ahead of me before I see anything. Argh.

And Re: Valentine's Day - my fiancee made early reservations at a restaurant so we can be back in time to see the judges' comments (they go online at 9 pm here). Luckily, she's excited to see the results too, so it's not a problem. Hopefully. :)

I guess I'm last of the final 4 to chime in. I've been lurking around the Paizo site looking for posts but I guess like the others, for some reason I didn't want to be the first one to start posting. I dunno, maybe we thought we'd jinx it. Life has also been busy catching up with other things, working some overtime at work, etc.

All I can say is I'm happy with my submission. I think it would be a really fun adventure. Also, oddly, I think I'm LESS stressed about this round than the ones before it. Maybe just because it's the last one. There's nothing more out there to attempt (within the contest I mean). Whereas in earlier rounds it's "survive and advance," here it's just put it out there and whatever happens happens. You never know for sure what people will like, so you can't game the system. You just have to take your best idea, run with it, and see what happens. Also, in this round you can't just be "also really good." You have to be "this one is THE best" in the minds of enough people to win the prize.

I don't know why that would make me less stressed. Reading it makes me feel like I SHOULD be more stressed out, but I don't. I'm excited for sure. Butterflies aplenty, and stir-crazy just waiting to see what happens. But I'm content. I took my best shot and I think it's good enough to win, even though I am sure that the other three Final Four super-geniuses will be producing kickass entries as well, but if it's not I have no regrets.

As I said to Boomer back in round 2:

Inigo: "Are you ready then?"
Westley: "Whether I am or not, you've been more than fair."
Inigo: "You seem a decent fellow, I hate to kill you."
Westley: "You seem a decent fellow, I hate to die."
Inigo: "Begin... "

Swords cross at noon today. Let's rock and roll!

LOL - my thoughts exactly. Luckily I took the wife out to dinner last night, when it was (relatively) less crowded and the service better.

If I was to go off of the track records of all four finalists so far, I'd really be hard-pressed to predict- SO I NEED THOSE PROPOSALS!

I also see this as being kind-of a "but so-and-so also won" kind of contest, like some seasons of American Idol. Maybe if the publishing schedule justifies it, we could see multiple finalist products (just as long as we don't get any movies like "From Justin To Kelly.)

And will these be 3.5E, or 4E product(s)?

Ahhhh... that's much better. Glad to have opened the flood gates... and, OMG, just 2hr 10min (+/- 5min) to go...

If you're really bored you can go over to the losing items and critique the hell out of my wondrous item. Mine is the last one on the thread and so far I've been lucky enough to be critiqued by Kisko and Russ Taylor!

Only if you review mine first!

Sure. I'll go hunt it down. Any idea which of the 19 pages it's on? We used to be avatar brothers so I'll be extra nice.

In my most humble opinion, you should only get to vote if you place a preorder for the final product. Too late now to establish that criteria, but you should have. If the one you vote for doesn't get published you get to cancel your order later, if the one you vote for wins, you get the copy you paid for.

The winner is guaranteed to sell at least one copy, to me, regardless of who wins, I am committed to supporting the winner and Paizo for running this great contest.

Alternately, the final round could, instead of being simple voting, be a "pre-ordering" round - and everyone gets 4 votes.

If all four of the proposals receive sufficient pre-orders, then all four get produced - but the person with the most overall votes is still the winner and receives a contract as their award - but it's a contract for a subsequent event, not the submitted one.

Thus, if we end up with four awesome adventures, we end up getting FIVE out of it, rather than just one.

The submissions were wonderful for this round, and great fun to read. All four are publishable (with a few changes in some cases), and I can't wait to see which the readers choose as their favorite!

For how many Greed Points does this sentence qualify? :D

Not that you aren't right, of course.

Keep in mind that, in American Idol, the winner is *guaranteed* a recording contract, but that doesn't mean that the label can't put out albums from some of the non-winners....

...and so far at least in our neck of woods, some stuff coming from non-winners proved to be more exciting and enduring than the winners (in the first Popstars show the resulting band did disappear as quickly as hype around them, while couple of cast-offs formed their own band and did end up being both critics' and audience's darlings...)

I can honestly say that I'd at the very least consider, and in all likelihood buy, a product bearing the name of ANY of the four finalists.

They've been consistently that good.

The ultimate vote is with one's pocketbook, right?

Who's with me?

Yes. I agree.

Yes. I agree.

And maybe even some of the non-finalists.

As perhaps an indication of how I'm leaning in my final vote...

There's one finalist that I would for certain buy her adventure (heh, that doesn't give it away at all).

And there's one other that I would buy 50 sourcebooks from. I think he might be better at sourcebooks, monster compendiums, etc.

That might, in the end, be my final factor.
