I'm gonna make some assumptions, feel free to correct.
Kirrish positions himself over or near a possible opening, ready for the flushed out rodents.
Declaration: Heat or...he struggles for the word and finally moves his hand back and forth in front of his head, almost like he's fanning something out of the air...could get creatures out hole; get creatures scared nest not good. Scared creatures could resist. Clutch get ready.
Suggestion: Try let jannx egg hatchers or young go; then jannx there other hunters.

Sounds about right with the fire and the fear.
In response to the vibration caused by the party, the Jankx, or one that looks just like it, pokes its head from the burrow, lets out a shrill squeak, and retreats into the hole again before you can make a grab for it.
I’m having “Flash Gordon” flashbacks. Give a rube a hole and sure enough, he’ll put his arm in it up to the elbow…lol. Just google “Noodling.”
Faindriac Fellstar |
Faindriac Nods in appreciation of his fellows restraint as the end of the caravan swings past, and another wave of the Way passes over them.
"There's no way I could have held off two,... in my current condition." He mutters, and seems to lean a little heavier on his staff.
When they find the Jannx warren, he takes a position over one of the holes, but begins to figure out how he can best use his powers to do the work instead.
Kirrish-Kreshk-Skiklik |
Suggestion: Gather dry...tinder or other thing, get heat near holes. Get lots eye-sting heat air and...he pantomimes: he seems to be using his hands to gently push something invisible toward the holes, back and forth in swift movements. Get creatures scared, creatures get out holes, clutch catch. Easy.
Query: Clutch holy one do this thing or this one do this thing? None in clutch hunt time ahead this time?
G'mork |
The party carefully boxes in the area with their bodies and assembles what little available tinder they can, gently pushing it down the occupied Jankx hole. Zuko sends down a jet a flame from his hands with a whuff, which is followed closely by a shrill shriek and the scent of seared hair and cooking meat. The party revels in their success, giving congratulations all around, and prepares to retrieve their prey.
A low tremor radiates from the ground, and then abruptly the air fills with a piercing cacophony of shrill squeals. Jankx boil forth from every bolthole around you, pouring out in ever-increasing numbers, driven senseless with rage at the scent of fire and the thought of danger to their homesteads. You have difficulty counting them as quickly as they are pouring out, but you estimate there are at least three of them for every one of you. The wave of golden furred mammals wheels toward you, and the Jankx leap upon the group, biting and clawing without regard for their personal safety.
(00/04, 0:19 Jankx rolls 1d20+2 to Initiative Total: 10 +2 = 12)
Aso |
The suckers' base roll for initiative is (1d20=15)
Aso's initiative is 20. I declared a readied action, waiting outside a hole, do I get any benefit?
Aso takes position over one of the holes with his club, readied action.
"Flush 'em out, Z... Z... Zuko."
Aso |
I declared a readied action, waiting outside a hole, do I get any benefit?
Sure thing, take a free whack (they are AC 16, btw).
AC 16? Great.
The anticipatory reflexes of hunger are so fast that Aso drives his club into the sand before the first Jankx even emerges. Through the cloud of sand blown upward from his miss, a tide of claw and fur boils over the surprised halfling and surrounds him immediately.
Whack-a-Jankx readied action (1d20=4)
...whatever. Dammit!
Faindriac Fellstar |
To hit Touch ac with Entangling Ectoplasm. (1d20+3=17)
As the wave of Critters emerges, Faindriac is obviously startled at first, then reacts not with his staff, but as he has been trained, and with the speed of thought sends a blob of ectoplasm speeding at a Jannx, smashing it to the ground with a gooey 'Plop".
"One". He says calmly, and smacks it with his staff to silence it's squirming.
used 1 PP = 1 Jannx, not bad

Sure thing, take a free whack (they are AC 16, btw).
Free whack blown. Here's my action for the first round.
Memories of the geek cage fill Aso's mind as he remembers he and jankx fighting, he with his empty hands and the jankx biting and clawing for its life. Rage overcomes him as he swings again, this time connecting.
Rage. Greatclub attack doing 5 hps (1d20+7=17, 1d8+2=5) This includes -2/-2 weapon penalties.
Holdrus Rippor |
Carrikal 1d20+5=6, 1d8+3=10
Tortoise Blade 1d20+5=6, 1d4+1=5
Wow, 2 natural 1's. I suck!
Damnable vermin, get offa me!
Kirrish-Kreshk-Skiklik |
Kirrish adopts the Thri-kreen strategy of "complete overkill" and uses all of his claw natural attacks on the closest critter.
4 claws: 1d20+6=21, 1d20+6=21, 1d20+6=15, 1d20+6=7
Two successful claws: 1d4+3=5, 1d4+3=7
He'll save his one poison use per day for something a bit more....sentient, so no bite attack.
Skarsnikt |
Whoa - not the attack I expected...
Skarsnikt waves wildly around him, cutting up little rodents left and right.
Claws: 11+5=AC 16, 12+5=AC 17, 8+5=AC 14, 11+5=AC 16. Two of the hits do 5 points of damage, the third does 6. Bite 8+3=AC 11. I attack one until it dies, switching targets as the opposition goes down.
MalaKi |
G'mork |
The party reacts swiftly and violently to the frenzied burrow defense of the Jankx. Ka-Chik-Chik-Ka, a blinding flash of claws and beak, tears four of them to pieces, though one clings stubbornly to his back as fur, blood, and feathers fly everywhere.
Crap, I misspoke earlier, they are on the attack side.
Shenker stabs madly at the crazed mammals, but only manages to kill one, as he is too busy dodging the shards of Holdrus’ exploding weapons. Distracted as one of the tiny varmints claws at his eyes, Holdrus falls to his knees and his powerful swings impact the hard ground. Holdrus’ weapons detonate, rendering them useless and spraying bits of bone and stone everywhere; on the positive side, the shrapnel exterminates one of the wild creatures. Similarly caught off guard and unable to effectively mount an offense, Zuko still manages to roll away safely from the fragmenting weapons.
Pretty sure your IA is still running from when you approached the mound.
Malaki lands a firm punch between the eyes of one of the creatures, depressing its skull with a sickening crunch while behind him, Radik reduces one of the animals to a greasy smear. Uncertain about the irrational violence against creatures only attempting to defend their nest, Issiki moves away to a safe distance, though not before he coaxes one of the creatures to his side.
Aso finds his greatclub to be the perfect size for his new sport, and makes quick work, reducing the current number of Jankx to twenty-five. The Thri-Kreen wade into the fray, alien terrors in rare form shredding three each of the creatures, animal dander and bloody sand floating back to earth in their wake. Non-nonplussed, Faindrac calmly pulps one of the creatures, almost as an afterthought.
The blood crazed Jankx retaliate, tearing into the party with an unrelenting, thoughtless fury.
