If you have any questions regarding character generation that have not been answered in my previous posts, please post them here.

How are we generating stats? Point buy or rolling?

At this stage I am leaning towards a Half Orc Monk / Cleric / Sacred Fist (Complete Divine) build. So will be able to fill the healer role (eventually, as I will probably start as a monk.)

Any chance of using the spontaneous divine casting from unearthed arcana? If not, I'll probably use the spontaneous divine casting from PHB2

I'll work on some ideas tomorrow and let you know details.

28 point buy for stats. Ok on the spontaneous divine casting from unearthed arcana.

ALIGNMENT RESTRICTION: NO EVIL Characters.

I'm cool witb that. BTW, I'm thinking of playing a rogue.

How did cleric get in my list? :)

Actually, it's ok, I can play a cleric if that's what's needed. But I'd prefer to play a dwarven ranger.

Radavel, any thoughts on using an alternate Combat Style (crossbow) for dwarven rangers, as discussed in this thread? I'd like to focus on the crossbow, but the ranger's normal archery combat style feats don't work as well with crossbows. I'm not really interested in the suggested substitution levels suggested by Dragonchess player in the linked thread, but I do like his alternate combat style for crossbows: Rapid Reload at 2nd, Crossbow Sniper at 6th, and Penetrating Shot at 11th.

Not official rules, but let me know what you think.

Also, how are we rolling hit points?

Since we are "only" going with a 28 point buy, I don't think my monk will work (and especially not my monk / cleric).

Instead I'll play the mage. Got a good idea for a Beguiler / Wizard / Ultimate Magus (compete mage).

Should have him ready to go by the end of the day.

Just reposting here as well:

As it Oliver's first chance at PbP, I will bow out to let him play. But put me on a list if you need a replacement down the line.

Also I do recall Kobold Cleaver saying something early on (before sign-ups were even taken). So I will ask that he also be placed in front of me on any replacement list.

female human fighter/1

okay, my characters done.

man, is it hard to find a female somewhat fighter-looking avatar!

Dark Archive

TO SargonX: Hit points for first level is at max. for later levels, HP will be computed uising the following formula:
50% of HD + 1 + Con. Modifier.

Just browsed through your sheet and I noticed that you didn't get the free feat from the ROTRL Player's Guide. You might wanna get one. I'll post my other comments when I get back from a meeting.

female human fighter/1

Hmmm...I don't have ROTRL players guide. Have any suggestions of good ones to take?

I'm okaying the proposal. Sorry about the cleric mix up.

To recap, we have:
Zu - Rogue
Mevers - Arcane caster
SargonX - Dwarven Ranger
Kaliona - Human Fighter
Oliver von Spreckelsen - ?

Waiting List:
GeraintElberion
Kobold Cleaver
ArchLich

Please see the free download link here, Ingowil

Spoiler:
your Will save should be +1, with a Wis of 12 and fighter level 1; a longbow does not apply Str Mod to damage. Only composite longbows have this quality, which in turn cost more than the normal longbow.

also, can you give me a break down of the skill ranks you allocated. apply the armor check penalty in the total skills modifiers. finally, get some bonus languages once you downloaded the player's guide.

I was thinking about a Dragon Shaman for 1st level, switching to Cleric afterwards.

Male Dwarf Ranger 2

My character's done. I'm using alternate abilities from Complete Champion: Champion of the Wild (replaces spellcasting) and Spiritual Connection (replaces wild empathy). Let me know if there are any problems.

Not to threadjack too much, but I'm half tempted to start a STAP PBP and would love to have you guys (you too Radavel)...if there is interest. Look for a post in Connections probably sometime today.

Targ and Ingowil, I'm approving your characters. That leaves Zu, Mevers and Oliver.

Male Human Beguiler 1

Here is Rilech, just have to finalise gear, and then I'll be ready to go.

Radavel, I plan on taking Wizard at 2nd level, is it alright if I start with the spell book? Just makes much more sense to me.

Here's my background and personality for reference.

Background: Warning, the background is long and detailed, but I've been working on it for a while, and I seem to be constantly adding more details to it each time :)

Spoiler:
I never knew my parents. The only memories I have of them is sitting on my fathers knee as he leafed through his spell book, enraptured at the strange, arcane writings wrought upon the page, and snippets of being entranced by his display of magic abilities.

The rest of my childhood was spent in an orphanage, I assume after my parents died. But being one of the smallest kids there, and somewhat socially awkward, I was the frequent target of bullying. Sure, the kindly old lady who ran the orphanage was nice enough, but she was naive as to what happened after she retired for the evening. Suffice to say I was often the target of the bigger kids. I tried to compensate by retreating into a world of knowledge and reading, but that only seemed to make me a bigger target. As soon I was able to steal a few silvers, I ran away, figuring life on the streets would have to be better than there.

And for a (short) while it was. This was the first time I didn’t have to constantly be on my guard. However, it didn’t last long, and after only a few days I had quickly run through my meager finances, and was now cold, hungry and alone with no immediate prospects of improving my situation.

With no other option, I decided to try my hand at pickpocketing. I had seen numerous other street urchins accomplish the feat, and to be honest, it didn't look that hard. However, I was caught with my hand in the pocket of the first likely mark I saw. Backed into a corner, my mind racing, I tried to reason with him, however, I am not sure what I said, for it didn't sound like any language I knew. But all of a sudden, his mood relaxed, and he acted like we were best buddies. Not knowing how long it would last, I took off out of there like a bat out of hell.

Over the next couple of days, through experimentation, meditation, concentration and study, I was able to replicate the effect on others, which meant I now had a roof over my head and food to eat at least.

Seeking to put my new found "talent" to work, I soon was a rather successful pickpocket, which drew the attention of a local street gang. When they came to "deal" with me, I was able to "convince" their leader to instead let me join. However, I was terrified to use my unique talents in front of anyone, and my lack of physical prowess meant I was rather unsuccessful. Through a little luck and a lot of hard work, I just managed to do enough to avoid getting kicked out, but I languished at the bottom of the totem pole. repeatedly getting passed over for "promotions" and quickly being surpassed by new recruits. It was just like the orphanage, but worse.

Despite this hardship I was able to eventually scrape together enough coin to sit the entrance exam to the local wizards academy. With dreams of emulating my father, which I had kept alive for years, I took the test, hoping against hope to be successful. To everyone’s surprise (including my own), I topped the test, and was accepted with a full scholarship.

Finally I thought, here among people like myself (relying on brains and not brawn), I would finally find acceptance. How wrong I was. It was worse than the orphanage. Most of the students came from families with a rich magical tradition, who looked down on a poor upstart with now arcane tradition or background. Only this time, those bullying me also had access to magic.

I however, was determined that nothing would stand in my way, and simply applied my self more diligently to my studies. My studies were a raging success, and not only was I now topping the class, I was also among the teachers favorites. Unsurprisingly, this only intensified the bullying, but I was determined to at least see out graduation.

However, one evening, only two weeks before our final assessment was to begin, I was subject to an unforgivable prank. I really don’t want to go into the details, I will leave it up to your imagination, and say it was worse than anything you can imagine. Suffice to say I snapped. Not realising the fury they had unleashed, my attackers retired for the evening, leaving me alone. I waited until I was sure they were all asleep. The gathering my meager possessions, I crept up to the room my tormentors shared, and summoned 3 fiendish wolves from a pilfered scroll of Summon Monster III. Overcome with what I had just done, I fled, determined to complete my magical “education” on my own.

Personality:
Spoiler:
First and foremost, Rilech is out for number one. He learnt early in life the only one you can count on is yourself. He expects no help from anyone, and is only concerned about looking after himself.

However, those that do prove their loyalty are rewarded with a loyal friend for life. He knows well the benefits a strong bond of friendship can provide, just don't expect him to make the first approach.

Ideally, it would be great if he was already quite tight with another member of the party (preferably a lawful type). Rilech is the sort of character who is reluctant to get involved in things that aren't his concern, but is the first to volunteer to help a friend. Let me now if you see that sort of thing fitting your character concept.

Male Dwarf Ranger 2

Small update to my character: chosen deities and personality notes.

Dark Archive

Rilech, I'm ok with the spellbook. As to being acquainted with another PC, I'll leave that up to you guys to work into your respective backgrounds.

If Ingowil and Targ will agree, the three of you can meet on the road to Sandpoint.

male Human Dragon Shaman 2

Just created my Message Board profile. More details during the day...

While reading through the class of Dragion Shaman I became very enamored with the concept... I think I will stick with it.

I'll wait for the others to finalize their characters and I'll post the game thread.

Here's my stats. Will finish my background later...

male Human Dragon Shaman 2

My creator still needs to read through

a) the Sandpoint section in the Player's Guide
b) the blog post about Magnimar (perhaps also the Magnimar article in PF#2, but only if he is given the permission to read it, Radavel)

to fill some gaps in my background. Otherwise I am ready and eager for adventure.

Sure. Read it if you need it for your background. I trust my players to be able to separate player knowledge from character knowledge.

male Human Dragon Shaman 2

I am basically complete. Just some minor details about my background in the place where I grew up...

Spoiler:

I am also open for any suggestions to tie my background better into the campaign or into the histories of the other characters. I love to do this in the groups I dm.

I'll review your stats and background when I get off from work.

To All: I'll post the game thread either on Friday or Saturday. I'll give Zu some time to finish his character.

Dark Archive

Szaranoth, I'm giving you the ok.

Zu, please finalize your character.

Can everybody just sound off so I know you're still there. Thanks. I'll post the game thread soon.

Yeah, I'm still here. I've been completely snowed under with exams for the past three weeks or so. Unfortunately, I'll also be away for the next week, but after that I will be right to continue. If you want to continue, can you please post in the next week letting me know, and when I get back we can pick it up and start continue.

Again, sorry about the slackness, hopefully things will improve as we go forward.

Dark Archive

Oh I see. Good luck on the exams.

I posted DitheringDM's spoiler for Lam-ang in a thread called "For Radavel's Eyes Only" in case you wanted to see it while at work.

EDIT: Sorry for thread jacking and jumping.

Dark Archive

No need for apologies. I should be thanking you :D

I posted a little proposal under the spoiler thread you put up.

Finally, finished the background. Sorry for the long delay. Work was horrible.

Dark Archive

I've already checked your stats and they're fine. Nice background. Please proceed to the game thread here.

I had my story already prepared and ready to post, as I was hoping for a quick answer from the others, giving them a chance to join in the conversation... if someone wants to read it, it is to be found in my profile (the non-spoilered part at the bottom, please). I will post it, after the others have chimed in again.

But I posted a response, so go ahead & post your story - I'm listening! (And you get a free drink!)

OK, I'm back, I have been away at a conference all week without internet access, but I'm back now. I'll get caught up on the game thread, and am ready for you to introduce Rilech when it fits.

I just need to finalise gear and then I'll be ready to go (but it will basically be wizard starting gear, just what he grabbed as he fled the wizard academy).

Having read through the game thread, it appears previously knowing someone in the party will not work. That's fine, I'll make it work some other way.

Ready when you are Radavel.
