Male Dwarf Cleric 1

Before we leave I want to search the body of the Hob

Sorry for the delay, was making sure everyone had the time to do what they wanted.

After surviving your first experience of combat, you head off again and continue you search for the cure ingredients. After a brief rest for lunh at midday, about an hour later the dense trees and thick brush of the forest give way, parting seemingly in respect for the titanic darkwood tree that dominates this clearing. Several times taller than a temple minaret, in one direction the obviously ancient tree reaches into the sky with branches like a giant’s arms, while in the other it plumbs the earth with roots thicker than a man’s waist. Its limbs broad and strong, its bark thick and so richly colored as to almost be black, and its leaves the size of bucklers, the giant thing is less a tree and more a cathedral of boughs and branches.

Let me know what you are doing, and can everyone give me spot checks please.

Male Human Druid / 1

Magpie pause as he enters the clearing for a moment of silent contemplation of the awesome power of nature.

Magpie attempts to spot ? (1d20+5=17)

Male Dwarf Cleric 1

Spot 16

Male Human Barbarian 1

Spot check 1d20 + 1 = 17

By the way, did Estra find anything on the hobgoblin?

From your vantage point on the edge of the clearing, you can clearly see the ancient, massive tree, but alas, not moss, at least from your current position.

Sorry, I included the Hobgoblins gear earlier under spoiler tags, here it is again.

Spoiler:
A search of the corpse yields a suit of Studded leather armor, a buckler, shortbow, a quiver with 24 arrows, a longsword, 2 daggers, and 2.3 gp in silver and copper

Male Human Druid / 1

'Do we think the moss in around the tree, on the tree or up it ?'

Magpie will tentaively approach the tree keeping his eye's fixed on it - thinking nervously of Hobgoblins and arrows and the like.

'Vorax Heel!' Handle Psychotic Badger (1d20+8=12) Can't remember if that's enough !

Male Dwarf Cleric 1

I will follow Magpie covering him with the crossbow avoiding the silly badger.

Sorry, I have been flat again, with ANOTHER exam, this time Hebrew, but I just got back so let's move it along. Unfortunately, we are just hitting exams at college, so my posting will be a bit infrequent for the next 3 weeks or so until they are over. After that things should get moving again. Thanks heaps for your patience.

As magpie moves in closer to inspect the tree, searching for some moss his eyes notice some movement in the tree above him. He turns his head just in time to see a large, reptilian creature launch it self at him. It looks like a snake, but has the head of a dragon and a pair of clawed forelimbs. Fortunately for magpie, it jaws snap harmlessly on thin air, although it was very close.

It's Initiative Time!!

Could the next one to post please roll initiative for everyone so we can get started.

Male Human Druid / 1

Initiatives:

Magpie Init : (1d20+2=13)
Greywulf Init: (1d20+2=9)
Kai Init: (1d20+5=6)
Arianna Init: (1d20+2=5)
Estra Init: (1d20+1=2) Ooops! Sorry :(

Ok, I'll say it before anyone else does: "I'm never rolling Initiative for the Party again, ever!"

Thanks Magpie. In the end the bad initiative rolls don't really matter, I rolled equally badly, the wurm is going on 5.

Initiative Order
13 Magpie
9 Greywulf
6 Kai
5 Critter
5 Arianna
2 Estra

Magpie's Up!!

Sorry for not posting earlier... But here's what will happen on Kai's turn. He'll enter Stance of Clarity (focusing on the creature, raising Kai's AC to 17 against it, and lowering his AC to 13 against other creatures). Then, he'll move up to the creature and initiate sapphire nightmare blade.

Kai blocks out all of his thoughts except for those of this new threat, focusing on it with all of his will. He approaches it, studying it's movements and looking for weaknesses. He then attacks suddenly, taking advantage of the creature's weak point.

Concentration check/attack roll (1d20+6=24, 1d20+4=17)

If the concentration check equals or exceeds its AC, and the attack roll hits (target is considered flat-footed against this attack, then I do:
Weapon Damage/SNB extra damage (1d10+4=11, 1d6=4)[ooc] = 15 damage.

If the Concentration roll failed, then my attack roll failed as well and I missed my attack.

Male Human Druid / 1

Magpie is too startled to do anything except strike out at the beastie that is attacking him.

Attacks with Spear; Damage (1d20+1=15, 1d8+1=9)

Does Magpie recognise the beastie ?

Knowledge Nature to recognise beastie ? (1d20+7=8)

I'm assuming Vorax will act on Magpie's turn to make it easier.

Male Badger (Magical Animal) (Animal Companion)

Vorax will default to 'defend his master'

I'm assuming he's a 5' step away so he'll move and full attack:

Claw,Claw,Bite (1d20+4=24;1s2-1=0;1d20+4=18;1d2-1=1;1d20-1=19;1d3-1=2)

Roll to confirm Critical(Claw) (1d20+4=6)

Roll to Confirm Critical (Bite) (1d20-1=0)

The first Bite will do minimum damage of 1, so if all 3 attacks hit did a total of 4HP damage.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1

Astra will fire with his crossbow on his turn.

1d20+1= 7+1=8

Male Human Barbarian 1

Greywulf charges at the creature that ambushed Magpie but missed wildly almost hitting Magpie in the process.

Attack roll 1d20 + 6 = 7

Startled by the Jaws snapping right next to his face, Magpie can only strike out with his spear, striking the beast firmly in the flank. In dogged protection of his master, Vorax leaps at the beast, clawing and biting at it's other flank.

Greywulf charges, however, he stumbles over a stray tree root just as he swings his Axe, and it narrowly misses Magpies head and thuds harmlessly into the tree. Focussing his thoughts, Kai approaches, and pauses for a moment before sinking his sword deep into the neck of the creature, severing it's head and after a few convulsions, it falls out of the tree, dead.

Sorry, Magpie doesn't have the right knowledge to Identify it. Hint: you need Knowledge (Arcana).

Nice shot Kai, that is a stack of damage you can pump out. Hopefully soon we have a combat that goes longer than a round or two :)

I grin as this new challenge reveals itself and let loose another blast of arcane power. In my haste to use my mysterious powers I forget to try to remember what the creatuer might be.
Knowledge (Arcana) I doubt a 12 is a success.
Attack 14
Damage 2

Arianna does not know what the beast is. Wit hit lying dead, in pieces at your feat, a quick search of the body reveals nothing. What is everyone doing?

Male Human Druid / 1

Magpie kicks the thing with a diapproving look on his face.'This thing isn't natural - we should destroy it's remains.'

He'll then start to have a good search around the base of thge tree for the moss.

Search for Elderwood Moss (1d20+2=4)

Magpie's dice rolling luck strikes again !

"Why?" I query Magpie with a curious look on my face as I kneel before the creature's body, inspecting it. "Its already dead."
I follow Magpie's lead and start looking for the moss.
Search 22, taking 20

Arianna, growing on the trunk, you see a small patch of moss that fits the description Laurel gave you. It can be easily and harmlessly collected. Although it isn't growing abundantly, there should be enough for your purposes.

Can everyone make a spot check please.

DC 14:

Spoiler:
You see 3 bodies hanging from the limbs of the tree about 30 feet up.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1

I will continue to look arround for anything else out of the ordinary
Spot 1d20+2=20+2=22 http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1362624

Male Human Druid / 1

Magpie Spots Nothing.

Male Human Barbarian 1

Greywulf looks around the area.

Spot check 1d20 + 1 = 13

Male Dwarf Cleric 1

anyone out there?

Yeah, I'm still here. I've been completely snowed under with exams for the past three weeks or so. Unfortunately, I'll also be away for the next week, but after that I will be right to continue. If you want to continue, can you please post in the next week letting me know, and when I get back we can pick it up and start continue.

Again, sorry about the slackness, hopefully things will improve as we go forward.

I'm still up for it !
