You could make both and see if the combat hound is preferable; you can have up to three character per account.

and thanks Kassil and Fatespinner; your answers have been great; video card died but I just got a new one; should be up and going tonight. I need to find an agent that will talk to me, hopefully there will be one when I figure out how to join corp :)

I have a few questions; is the player of the account the only one who can upgrade his ship? if you quit training a skill do you loose all that time you have invested in training it?

Anyone who has ANY need of any S ammunition, rockets, or light missile, tell either myself or Fatespinner (Fatwatai in-game) and we can use the corp's blueprints to cook up a batch. Everyone should have access to the corp supply hangars as well - feel free to tap the stores of ammunition in the consumables as necessary. (This comes after one of our corpmates bought a pack of missiles from me...)

And if we don't have a blueprint, we'll likely buy it and have you retrieve it so we can make it - provided it isn't too expensive and we have materials for it.

If anyone happens to spot Kernite out in the belts, let a miner know ASAP. The Isogen in them is valuable for some of our current BPOs. And as soon as we can get enough people skilled enough to hold their own in a low-end lowsec mission... Zydrine is useful, indeed. And highly profitable.

I can't help you on the upgrade question, but as long as you switch the skill you're learning and not outright cancel it, you'll still have the amount you learned when you come back to it.

Sidenote, first day of football: Go Dolphins!

Also, for the corp as a whole, I've switched to my new combat-centric character. Goes by the name Vacuum Jack.

hehe hopefully you wont suck to much vacuum; :)

how can I find out the corp rules and guidelines and stuff like that; are we gonna mine and industry a lot; do we pve or pvp or what; when are most people on; like, are there big corp raids; do we have enemies; stuff like that?

There should be a level 1 agent in the corp HQ for you to chat with, yes.

I'm nut sure I understand what you mean by upgrading the ship. Do you mean buying a new one, adding modules, or what?

And you don't lose point when you swap skills. It's one of the usual tactics for players who are going to sleep or when there's downtime to set a long skill to training and then train shorter skills when you're awake.

Valegrim wrote:

We haven't set any rules or guidelines yet; look for that sort of thing in a week or thereabouts. I'm considering the corp to still be in 'charter' phase until it gets to a week old.

We do seem to be primarily an industrial corp, but that doesn't preclude us having combat characters; mission runners can contribute to the corp via the corp tax and by building up Loyalty Points so as to get implants and the like for the corp.

We're mostly PvE, but we'll run into PvP when we descend into lowsec after the more profitable minerals. EVE is a game where PvP is difficult to avoid without spending your whole game in high security systems.

I am not yet sure when people are generally on; we're still new enough with enough new players to be sorting that out.

No big corp raids. At least not yet. When we're larger and more established, mayhap.

We have no enemies at this time, unless you count the NPC pirates that infest the belts.

by upgrading a ship I mean can someone put a module on for me or upgrade my ships armor or do I have to skill that up myself; seems I started training gunnery to level 5 and it said it will take 12 more days; was wondering if maybe I should stop that and train something else and if I will loose the two days i have been training at it.

You lose no skill points when you change skills; you can freely swap around without losing any time.

As for modules, that you have to do yourself, because your skills are what determines what you can and can't use.

ah; k thanks; btw; lions beat the raiders :)

WOW, a Gallente Special Forces character is way different than a Cadari Engineer. I can shoot straight, I can mine (very slowly), and I can see a much clearer path for progression.

The new char has really changed my opinion of the game. I originally thought it was kind of neat, but a bit tedious... I have found my niche.

Dark Archive RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

Even though my Charisma stat is in the toilet, I'm considering training some of the 'gang' skills under Leadership that gives your allies bonuses on things like targeting speed, damage, and all sorts of other stuff just because, when I'm out and about, I'm almost ALWAYS in a gang. It'd be kind of cool if I could give some passive bonuses to my guard dogs.

Naturally, these skills will have to come AFTER I get my Exhumers. :)

Liberty's Edge

Oooh, that would be cool

In your NeoCom bar on the left side of the screen, there is an option called 'People & Places'. You can go in there and add our character names to your 'buddy list' to see when we're online (a character who is online will have a little green light next to their head). Then you can just right-click their picture and go to 'Start Conversation' to chat with them. The first time you do so, it will cost you a few ISK, but afterwards, the person can add you to their buddy list and the conversations are free from there on.

Edited my previous post to reflect this.

Amai hangs out in Caldari space, running missions and beating up on random pirates. Right now she's doing stuff in a couple of 0.5 systems, which probably have yummy minerals in their asteroids. She doesn't know, though, since her focus is entirely on blowing up bad guys.

So if you want to come hang with the Caldaris and do some mining or whatever in a slightly dangerous system, Amai's always happy to have friends around.

I'm pretty sure Samyk Risker is gonna end as recycled goods. Vacuum Jack, however, is here to stay, and he's Minmatar all the way.

I've moved over to the Seven Swords HQ area, which is in Amarr space, but it's not too terribly far from Caldari territory (12 or so jumps). There's a 0.6 system there, the Nishah system, that has some badass kernite deposits and pirates a-plenty!

I can be found in Gallente space as Clovis Merovee fellas. Don't count on my jumping the shark to Seven Swords, so you might want to establish a "7SL" or some similarly named 'public chat channel' for interacting with others outside of local chat channel, conduct sensitive extra-corporate political negotiations ... or just jawjack with fellow Paizonians that do not belly up to your collective EVE table... :)

If you look at my employment history, you'll find I'm not exactly inclined to bounce from corp to corp ...

I believe Aroval has already established the chat channel 'Seven Swords.' I spend most of my time with the chat window minimized unless I'm in a gang, however, so I'm not a terribly attentive visitor.

LoL - well yes, that is the down side to those channels, they are rather low on the totem pole for paying attention too...

Everyone got kicked - for some reason, Tranquility decided to have itself an aneurism or two today.

Be sure to fire up the SEVEN SWORDS chat channel too, since that will let us jabberjaw about D&D while blowing up rats, munching gravel and otherwise entertaining ourselves.

I just got kicked. Trying to log back on gives me this:

"Proxy not connected to sol servers"

Whatever that means.

I don't care if it is down right now, as long as it comes back up in the next 20 minutes or so, so I can change out my training skill. ;D

I find myself being pretty weird about scheduling my time around switching up my training. I'm soon going to lose internet for 3-5 days and the first thing I thought was 'Oh no! That's really going to be inefficient for training!'

I had a good ol time last night while I was on. Not sure how to fire up the seven swords channel yet... But I'll get it! Did a bunch of missions last night. I guess I'm going to end up a trader of some sort, running back and forth doing missions. I'll also work on my leadership skills, to aid the group.

I definitely need a faster ship though. These trips back and forth are taking a bit too long. So which ships would you guys suggest? And what else will make my ship faster? Thanks!

I'd advise training skills such as Evasive Maneuvering, which will let you ship align to warp targets faster. Skills that max out your capacitor's recharge, reduce the cost of warp activation, and allow the equipping of afterburners and MicroWarpDrives will also serve you well in the quest for speed.

...And it looks like the Revelations 2.2.1 patch is out. Probably a small one. I'll find out in the morning, since I'm currently awake during downtime.

Well, I had to go back to Patar; 16 jumps from our home base last night; couldnt find anywhere in the surrounding places to get any small gun ammo and was nearly out of bullets. I saw some blueprints in the corp window, but dont know how to use those. Is there a list somewhere of dps of bullets or something; there are so many choices and I dont know what bullets to use; am using something now with two guns having bullets good agaist sheild and moderate to armor and one light on shields and good agaist armor. Am thinking to upgrade one of my guns to an artillery piece, but I am not having any trouble in fights so far so am wondering; might hold off until I get a Destroyer; which I can afford I just need a skill point first.

I was looking at the shuttle. It's cheap and quick, so it's all I need for some of these delivery missions I've been running. Problem is you can't mount anything to it. So that brings me a few questions:

Can you pick up one of your other ships anywhere, or only at the station you switched at? Is there anyway to upgrade a shuttle to mount things to it? Any other suggestions I might not be thinking about?

lol, that's the time to train up to level 5 in a skill. I have a few that will take 7 days to train up all the way, so if you have similar skills it sounds like a good time to train them! :)

As a Caldari, get yourself a Kestrel and throw an Afterburner or two on there. Also look into getting the skillbook for Warp Drive Operation and, if you don't have it already, Navigation. Both of them will be very helpful in reducing your travel times.

Hardcorhobbs wrote:

Since you can only pilot one ship at a time, if you switch ships, you have to leave your old ship behind. It'll still be there when you come back to it, but you can't switch out at another station. Some ships with ridiculously huge cargo holds have enough space to store other ships, but you're not going to have access to those anytime soon. I think the smallest ship I've seen so far (a shuttle) still takes up a few thousand m3 when packaged.

And no, as far as I'm aware, there is no way to 'add' mounting slots to a ship. If there were, I'd add some low slots to my destroyer for more cargo space.

Kel Phthel bought a Catalyst Destroyer last night...

Now i need to run a dozen more missions in my frigates to get it fitted out, not to mention all the skills I need to train to be worthwhile...

I had a pretty good night last night. A mostly quiet evening mining in the Amdonen system. I don't think I encountered a single pirate all night. I also decided that, if I'm going to be doing a lot of corporate manufacturing, I should probably start training up my manufacturing and refining skills. So, with that in mind, last night I picked up the following skillbooks and trained them to level 1:

  • Refining Efficiency (4% reduction in refinery waste per level)
  • Mass Production (allows multiple things to be produced at the same time)
  • Small Energy Turret (relying on ammo sucks and consumes valuable resources)
  • Iron Will (stat boosts are good)
  • Spatial Awareness (ditto)
  • Empathy (double ditto)
I also gained a new rank of Weapon Upgrades (up to level 2 now), which reduces the CPU consumption of weapon turrets (making more room for mining lasers and miscellaneous modules). And, after all that, I upgraded my clone since I had just crossed the 1.2m skillpoint mark and my previous clone was only good for 1.3m. My new clone supports 2m. That should be good for awhile. All totalled, I think I spent close to a million ISK last night.

I've starting mining Scordite again, just because I could really use the Tritanium and Pyerite for manufacturing. When I need money again, I'll go back to Kernite (and see if I can't bring some friends to do relays, because that stuff is heavy).

I was reading through the players guide at lunch (I didn't want to do that last night and waste valuable game time!), and I might roll a new character. Trade seems much more complicated than I anticipated. So I think I'm going to do a warrior build focusing on leadership and speed. This way I can do transport missions, or agent missions as I need, and be able to help the corp out two ways. One, another warrior should we need it, one running group boosting capabilities, and two I can make runs for the corp so you guys can focus on your own specialties. It seems to me this can be highly profitable as I become more familiar with the game.

Be sure to train up your Starship Command skills as well as the various ship type skills so that, eventually, you can pilot a Command Ship. Those things are great for group-boosting and, when you're not in a group, you can always switch back out to a battleship or cruiser.

Dude, I've said it several times already. I have the blueprints for ammo for you. Tell me or Fatespinner what you want, and we can cook up a batch and put it in the corp hangar for you.

Damage types for the Amdonen area are generally EM and Thermal.

The difference between artillery and autocannons is the range. artillery is for long-range combat, autcannons for close-up. Neither one is necessarily an upgrade over the other; indeed, our security chief mounts long, medium, and short-range weapons to be able to engage at all ranges.

Ships, being physically existent in the game world, remain at whatever station you left them at. Shuttles exist solely to be the fastest unmodified ships in the game, and cheap enough only people obsessed with killboards would bother to kill it.

Yes, there definitely are people who seem to feel their only purpose in life is to to hunt down and podkill anyone who crosses their path. The ones obsessed with the killboards fill this section of the demographic - but, thankfully, they tend to be stuck in lowsec because their security rating rapidly goes to hell in a handbasket.
