Of course we fail![/url]
D'oh!
Bwuahahahaha. My evil plans come to fruition at last! Aahahahahahaha. Um, seriously though, this could be bad (although it does digest rather slowly). What would you like Anders to do at this end of this round, seeing as you’re starting to look like you might need a little fire support?

Harven Whisperfeet |

Sorry, in the middle of 6 exams in 2 weeks. No, its not as bad as it sounds, its actually worse :)
Harven right about now wishes he had bought some Alchemists fire or Acid vials with him. But with no other viable options really, he takes aim again with his bow. He moves back along the wall, looking for an opening, before firing at the blob.
Attack Roll (1d20+8=18)
Damage (1d4=3, 1d6=1)
Seeing his arrows simply bury themselves in the blob, he wonders if he is actually doing any damage at all?

Eldin Farstrider |

Seeing Harven’s bolt bury itself into the blob, but unsure how much damage it is really doing, Eldin hurls his lantern at the creature, hoping that the oil within will spill, and burn – and the creature is not resistant to flame.
Moves to C3 and throws his lantern at the creature, trying to target part of it that is not currently engulfing his companions. Attack roll: 3 …. Right, so much for that.

G'mork |

Right, so much for that.
Sure, just throw my quotes about a 15' wall of slime being impossible to miss right out the window. Thanks!
Not wanting to risk hitting his companions, Eldin checks his swing and batters the lantern against one of the pillars by mistake. Boiling lamp oil sprays the room to the left of him as tendrils of flame lick up the column.
Slime “and” fire. Good combo! I swear, I can’t take you guys anywhere without you burning something down. Boat? Check. Warehouse? Check. Sewers…
I would suggest that Anders goes the tried and tested Magic Missile route.
Just what I was thinking.
Seann is up, unless Terin wants to try to give the thing cancer with the power of his mind.

Seann Eoghan |

Seann, not thinking of the consequences of his actions, takes a few futive steps forward, and makes a few frantic gestures with his shaking hands. A wave of flame spreads across the room, scorching everything in its path, including its intended target, the slime monster.
The mage runs his trembling fingers through his hair.
"Maybe that wasn't a good idea..."
5-foot step, Burning Hands, 2d4 = 7 damage in a 15-foot cone. If needed: ranged attack: 14 + 2 = 16

G'mork |

Seann, I took a few liberties with your action (hope you don't mind), as the only one you were toasting with the 5’ step was poor Harven (though I’m cool with that if that was your intention...).
Since the spell was only a standard action, I used a partial move to get you to C9, which gets you within range, but with the pillars out of line of effect, and still a step or two from the blob worrying him. Also, I'll reroll the damage before I go, as he's only counted as a 1st level caster for arcane spells.
Meh, screw rolling, we'll just average it out to 4 for max damage.

G'mork |

Searing flames fan out from Seann’s outspread palms in the direction of the slime wave.
Eldin, recently anointed by lamp oil, turns briefly incandescent before the conflagration whips past, leaving him smoking and soot spotted (6 damage, reflex half, no need to worry about gear damage, but you might want to invest in new clothes before long).
The flames collide with the wall of ooze and spread rapidly across the surface of the creature, causing it to boil and blister. The slime contorts with agony at the flame, reflex action forcing screams from Terin and Tyndal, though it is the monstrosity which roars vicariously through their unresponsive esophagi. Steam boils away from the creature as charred dollops of viscous material splatter the floor (Reflex 9, 4 damage).
Tyndal, farthest from the flames and protected by one of the six wooden columns, experiences only a not altogether unpleasant warming sensation, barely registering in his quiescence. Terin is not so fortunate. Though the wall of disgusting ooze protects his flesh from the majority of the flame, the boiling glop cooks him just as surely (4 damage). Thankfully, the creature is considerate enough to scream for him.

G'mork |

The mindless abomination, reeling in pain from Seann’s blazing assault, recoils from the flaming pillar, sparing Eldin the fate of becoming one with the creature and his compatriots.
Melding a portion of its figure into a pseudopod battering ram worthy of any castle assault, the senseless ooze hammers instinctively down upon the nearest discernable movement.
Eldin, still recovering from his recent immolation, manages to just barely skirt sideways from the ground shaking impact of the bludgeoning slime sledge ( 10/19, 4:24 Ooze rolls 1d20+3 to Slam Eldin Total: 11 +3 = 14).
For the moment, Terin and Tyndal continue to digest wordlessly (10/19, 4:30 Ooze rolls 1d6 to Acid = 6 damage each).

NPC_Anders |

Anders glares at the creature stonily. Raising his arm, he points a single finger at the atrocity and barks, “Ra-Ket!” A shimmering missile of force streaks forth from his finger, striking the ooze at the midpoint (10/19, 4:35 NPC Anders rolls 1d4+1 to damage the ooze with a magic missle. Total: 3 +1 = 4) with uncanny accuracy.
Accompanied by a ripping, sucking noise, a great rend opens in the slime, extending halfway down the median of the thing. This occasion, the creature does not immediately seal itself. Perhaps your combined assaults are at last telling.

Harven Whisperfeet |

Seeing the effect his companions are having on the "creature" with their spells, Harven does the only thing he can. Shoot it. Again. But even though he can't tell if it is doing any damage, the least he can do is distract it from the spellcasters and give them time to finish it off.
With a mighty roar (that probably sounds more like a high - pitched scream to the rest of the party), he darts towards the creature, trying to draw it's attention, before retreating to the safety of the corner. He turns around and fires an arrow, burying it withing the creature.
Attack Roll (1d20+8=16)
Damage (1d4=2, 1d6=1)
Tumble check to avoid AoO (if needed) (1d20+9=20)

Terin "The Beast" Talonshift |

Reflex save: 17+1 = 18
Is any of Terin visible and accessible through the slime coating? Does Eldin think he could poke a wand in there to grant some healing to Terin (without inadvertently healing the slime instead)?
Terin thinks that it would be nice to have some healing.

G'mork |

Tumble check to avoid AoO (if needed)
Nice.
Reflex save: 17+1 = 18
Sorry, I ought to have put down the DC for Seann's spell (14). That's a success for half, then.
Is any of Terin visible and accessible through the slime coating?
You can see him fine, the slime is only translucent.
Does Eldin think he could poke a wand in there to grant some healing to Terin (without inadvertently healing the slime instead)?
Hmm. Well, I don't see why not if you jab him with it (and not have to worry about contact healing), seeing as the ooze is only semisolid; though I'm almost certain poking a stick through someone's body to get at the person inside provokes an AoO.

Eldin Farstrider |

Fair enough ... and I don't suppose I can "wand defensively" ... hmmm, give me a bit to think about my action.

Eldin Farstrider |

As Eldin flings his lantern, he manages to spill lamp oil all up his arm – which is a problem when Seann’s fire spell gets a little too close for comfort. Reacting with surprising quickness, the cleric wraps his smouldering arm in his cloak, smothering the fire (although somewhat ruining the cloak) before it can cause more than superficial damage. He also manages to dodge the creature’s flailing blow, but not the globs of burning slime that rain down as a result of the mage’s magic. Reflex: 7
Barely suppressing a reproachful glance at Seann (after all, it was his own clumsiness with the lantern that really caused the accident), Eldin assesses the situation. Damn. Wooden columns. Still, it would take a very hot and long burning fire to do any significant damage – Eldin had seen buildings ravaged by fire where the bulky timber frames had survived the conflagration, scorched on the outside but still strong underneath a layer of charcoal.
Of more concern was the fate of Tyndal and Terin, especially given that scream that had apparently erupted from the druid.
argh! I want to throw up a shield of faith before I risk an AOO, but I don’t think Terin can survive much more acid…[ooc]
Being as alert as he can for swinging pseudopods or globs of acid, [ooc](Concentration:11+4 = 15) Eldin moves forward, pokes the tip of his wand through the slime with a ~gloop~ and speaks the command word to send a spurt of positive energy through to the slowly dissolving Terin. Wand heals for 7+1 = 8 points.

G'mork |

As Harven dodges about, he beings to notice a definite pattern; his shots are not as effective as they should be, though this most recent attack did noticeably effect the injured creature.
A great mass of slime silently swells beneath Eldin, catching him off guard as he concentrates on avoiding on the still flailing battering ram sized pseudopod ( 10/20, 0:33 Ooze rolls 1d20+3 to make an attack of opportunity on Eldin. Total: 17 +3 = 20).
Battering his gut and groin area with a forceful jab, the horrific appendage leaves a residual trail of caustic slime in its wake ( 10/20, 0:38 Ooze rolls 1d6 to determine slam damage on Eldin = 2 / 10/20, 0:38 Ooze rolls 1d6 to determine acid damage on Eldin = 5).
Healing energy surges into Terin, thanks to Eldin’s brave feat. Though unable to show an external acknowledgement of gratitude or relief, you believe the look of agony hiding behind his compulsorily opened eyes lessens as portions of his raw skin grow anew.
Unfortunately, even these two brief periods of contact with the slime have potentially dire consequences for Eldin, as already he feels his bowels quiver uncomfortably. Something is undeniably not right inside.
Eldin is unable to shake off the anesthetizing effects of the slime. His jaw locks, and his limbs figuratively petrify, locking him into the upright standing position. (10/20, 0:44 Ooze rolls 3d6 to determine duration of paralysation Total: 15)
Cripes, that’s a tough save to hit at this level.
At least Terin is healed though! Healed ….and paralysed, and covered in acid…[/ooc]
See; concentrate on the positive, that’s good! This fight is going to be close, but I think you've got it on the ropes.
Seann up!

G'mork |

G'mork |

Tracing Seann’s presence with its primitive senses, the slime wave undulates forward, absorbing Eldin along the way with revolting slurping noises and an agonizing slowness.
Preoccupied with the neutralization of its prey, the ooze expends little energy this round on digestion (1 damage from acid to Terin/Tyndal/Eldin)
(I updated the map above to reflect the ooze’s move)
Will resolve Vanthus' AoO in a sec.

A Queer Little Man |

“Aaiiii!”
The strange man flails about madly with his improvised weapon (Cripes, natural 1). The wooden column receives a terrible thrashing it will not soon forget, yet the ooze proceeds unmolested.

NPC_Anders |

Stabbing his finger in the direction of the ooze a second time, Anders’ calls out, “Vorst!” A beam of frozen air and water vapor springs to life, clouting the side of the slime, and congealing the mass into a heavy, frost covered gelatin. The wave lurches to a halt and lists back towards the direction of the pool heavily.
CRIT BABY! Confirmation. Sucky damage (ah well, at least it won’t steal the party’s thunder) Ooze takes 2 damage from the Ray of Frost.

mevers |

Harven's up! :)
(no pressure, but well, it's pretty much up to you to save everyone here)
Great, we'll see how we go then :)
Harven moves into a better position (to F8) to get a decent shot while staying out of melee with the disgusting pile of slime. Loosing an arrow, he buries another arrow into the amorphous blob.
Hit AC 14 for 2 Damage + 5 Skirmish. I know it is immune to skirmish damage, but he had to move anyway.

G'mork |

Please pardon the delay; I was recovering a bit. It’s quite difficult for me to be creative during a low barometric pressure induced headache. They never do mention when you are young that traumatic head injury will return to haunt you.
Harven’s frantic shot proves to be the death knell for the creature. Simply sustaining too much damage to maintain cohesion, the translucent slime pops like a soap bubble, coating the nearby pillars and chamber walls with smoldering acid (Seann barely manages to duck behind the pillar in time, and the rest of the party is mercifully out of range).
The bulk of the ooze sags to the floor, and begins to drain back towards the pool, dropping the comatose forms of Terin, Tyndal, and Eldin unceremoniously onto the chamber floor. Eldin begins to slide backwards, carried by the tide of now-lifeless slime, but “Vanthus” quickly grabs hold of the tattered collar of Eldin’s robe, arresting his decent.
Out of contact with the creature, all three men begin breathing easier, and their limbs twitch spasmodically, muscles returning to life with little delay. While gravely injured, the caustic sludge cauterized their wounds, and their condition is stable.

Harven Whisperfeet |

Seeing his final shot finally force the blob to disintegrate, Harven lets out an exclamation of "YES!" accompanied by a fist pump. He then rushes to Eldin's side, grabs his wand and asks the other memebers "Can anyone actually use this thing?"
Assuming no one volunteers, "OK, I'll suppose I'll give it a shot." Drawing on all his past knowledge and training at the hands of his mentor, he focuses for a moment, and then recalling the command word Eldin used earlier, he gives it a shot. "Here goes nothing" and to the surprise of all (himself included), he actually gets the wand to work, healing Eldin for 6 hit points.
"Wow, I can't believe that actually worked. Cool." He then moves over to Terin and Tyndal, and hits each of them with a shot from the wand as well (assuming they look like they actually need it).
Rangers can use wands of CLW, didn't realise until I was trying to work out how to get our healer(s) up and running again. Healed Terin for 3 hitpoints and Tyndal for 6

Seann Eoghan |

After seeing the slime creature burst, Seann's nerves catch up with him. His spear slips from his fingers, clattering to the floor as the mage slumps against a pillar and sinks to the floor.
"All this is my damned fault... All of it... Gods, I need a drink."
