This will be the discusion thread for the Falcon's Hallow game.

As of now, there are 5 players and 2 on standby

Creation rules:

SRD by default, other stuff will be decided on a case by case basis

Stats, elite array (15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8) + 3 points placed anywhere

House Rules:
Trap finding allows you to spot traps, not search for them, same with the elven ability for secret doors. Anyone can search for any non-magical trap

Casters that receive 0th level spells gain bonus spells equaly to their full casting stat modifier, for example a wizard with a 16 int gains 3 bonus 0th level spells

Wizards and clerics may spontaneously cast 0th level spells after reaching level 3

I like your houserules! I use the trapfinding rule in my own game at home. By 'spontaneously cast', do you mean switch out any spell for a 0 level spell, use any of your 0 level slots for any of the spells, or something else?

They can cast any 0th level spell they know without preparation

Of course I don't own D1 yet, so this will only get you to level 2...

Don't have D1 in front of me, but I believe it takes you up to 4-5th level or so. Some of the later encounters are a wee bit rough.

LOL . . .seriously though, if worst comes to worst, you and I can switch places after D0, and I can run D1.

I don't think the SRD lists starting gold.

Y'know, seeing as running these games as a pbp game on this site is kinda like an advertisement for the Gamesmastery modules, you should try to hit Paizo up for a gratis copy. Being as your the first one to do so and all...

We... might be in trouble here.

We got a damn smart party, with four 13 and over in INT, and one average... but...

We got no common sense! Three of our people (the rogue, the wizard, and the bard, the three most troublesome!) have negative modifiers in WIS! Thanks for small favors, that we have a cleric with us...

^_^ This should be fun.

Honor system I imagine. (Rolled 10+6 fort = 16)

Calar is currently pounding out some dents of one of the Lumber Consortium's merc's armor. Apparently, they got in tangle with a few wild bears.

Despite the steady rhythmic beat of his hammer on metal, his mind his far away . . .he is thinking about his savings, 10 gp, and hoping it is enough to buy a cure for his young friend.

OOC: Oh, that builds GREAT confidence in us.

Geddoe rolls an 18 on his die, resulting in a Fort of 19.

Geddoe stared blankly at the sky, a lone strand of straw sticking from the corner of his mouth. Ignoring the rocking of the hay wagon, where he was currently lounging in a nest of the stiff material, he reflected upon the retreat from his last home.

"Lucky, lucky me," he muttered. "Just because a piece of jewelry LOOKS expensive from a distance doesn't mean that it ain't a faux piece of crap." He had figured, what with the great amount of affection the bauble the previous owner had lavished upon it, it must've been a heck of a catch. However, when he broke into the home in order to acquire it and fence it, he quickly discovered that the jewel was merely glass, and totally useless.

It didn't quite explain all of the hired killers sent after him, but at least he managed to shake them off over the last tenday. But at what cost?

"I get run out of my home, I'm out of my small fortune..." Geddoe wiped a sheen of prespiration from his head, stubbly from the lack of grooming over the last week. "... I smell worse than a dead goat..." he conceded. Popping open the vest of his studded leather, the only clothing he was able to escape with, he looked over his shoulder at the driver of the hay wagon.

"Old man! Are we at that Falcon's Hollow place, yet?"

The crotchety old driver yipped back at him with, "Huld yer horses, son! There's 'bout a half hour 'til we git there!"

Sighing, Geddoe plopped back into the hay, pulling his vest off to reveal a grimy white shirt. Hopefully there'd be a bath at the end of this!

Nerek looks around, scratching his beard as he approaches the River Foam.

"Just a ferry ride from my destination," he mumbles gruffly, then quickly says a prayer to Abadar for his safe travel.

While he waits for the Ferry he looks across to the town, wondering what purpose Abadar wishes for him to serve in this backwoods town.

Male Human Fighter 1

Calar turns his attention to a guardsmen who clears his throat and takes a puff of a foul-smelling pipe. The guardsmen is lean and unshaven.

"You, Calar, get on down and help pull the ferry in, won't ya? Need a strong arm 'cause a few of the porters are down with the plague. Pitch in a hand, eh?"

Calar silently hangs his tools and dons his light green vest and walks toward the river to help secure the ferry ashore.

Figure this gives us a chance for some roleplaying for those coming into town via ferry

Still a few things to (re)update on the character sheet, but Saves are locked in.

One question... can I purchase a scroll or two with starting money if I can afford it?

And now for the moment of truth. Drumroll please... <runs to get d20> ...Fort save is 6+2=8.

And we're off to a perfect start!

Vishantos overhears the guard and blacksmith and clears his thoat, then coughs. "You know, it would be easier if you had a better gear ratio on the ferry winch. I could design it for you, although engineering isn't really my forte. Should be pretty straightforward though. I'd give you a better price than any of the guild engineers would, anyways..."

He follows a few steps behind, drifting further into his own thoughts of winch mechanisms.

I better sink a rank or two into architecture and engineering now...

If you get enough Falcon feathers you can make a Falcon's Pillow.

We told him his sentence was an eye rhyme only and that we weren't satisfied. He said we should suck his beak and flew off.

Male Human Rogue 1

'This... is not good,' Geddoe thought.

As soon as the wagon he rode in on began entering Falcon's Hollow, Geddoe saw the signs of sickness, both morally and physically. Having travelled quite a bit over the last seven years, Geddoe could tell when he was entering a place where corruption had taken root, even with his self admitted lack of wisdom. It surprised him that an out of the way place like this had such obvious signs of crime, with the outskirts having a sort of slummish feel to it.

This place may not be such a good place to lay low in order to regain his savings. WIth all hope, this was not a place ran by organized crime, for they did not appreciate new blood running in on their grounds.

What was also plain to see was the sickness encroaching. Having survived through a plague that stole half of his family, the thief could tell that another such epidemic was beginning here. As much havoc and opportunity a disaster would cause, the risk was too high.

'It may be best to not delay here...' he thought as he hopped off of the old farmer's wagon. Leaving his leather vest off, he shouldered the backpack full of his tools and walked down the street, looking for some place to stay, and gather information.

'And get a bath,' Geddoe added mentally as he bumped between two men, a guardsman and a smith, from the looks of them, and narrowly missed clipping an older looking gentleman, who wrinkled his nose as he passed.

That was Calar and Vish, in case you were wondering.

By the way, what are the common languages that a street rat, who spent several years jumping from town to town, would know? All I got is Common and Elven (considering the Forlorn, or whatever the street elves are called...).

Male Dwarf lv 1 Cleric

"Thank you, my good man," Nerek says to the youth as he steps off the Ferry. "Could you direct me to the nearest temple? I must pay my respects for a safe journey."

Nerek scratches absently at his beard while waiting for a reply.

I'm assuming that would be Calar he's addressing.

I'll leave it blank, then, 'til the Guide comes out. I was planning for either a thieves' cant or some sort of Varisian language, considering that they're considered a sort of Gypsy race.

Oh well. Gotta use what they deal you, I guess.

I took a quick glance at the background of the city, so I know a bit about the COnsortium and whatnot, and I figure that Geddoe, though lacking in wisdom, could see pretty quickly the signs of corruption. If you think that I'm presuming too much, then, please, reign me back.

Are there any inns near the docks (possibly the best place for my character to lay low in) that have cheap rooms AND a bath? Geddoe has gotten quite used to a higher standard of living, despite his lowly beginnings.

male Human Transmuter 1

All right, my stats are done (I think). Let me know if you see any problems.

Vishantos coughs and spits as he plans out the new ferry winch. He carefully watches how the current set up works, oblivious to the fact that he is getting in the way of the men trying to work the wheel.

"Help or get out of the way!" shouts the surly guard.

Vishantos blinks, coughs, and then sets to work winding the ferry across the river.

How do you like the extra 0th level spells?

Sovereign Court Contributor

Dragonmann wrote:

I like it. I may run with that in my next campaign. Right now I give casters unlimited 0 level spells, but mostly because I use a spell point system (and it's a high power campaign). It's too much conversion work though. This is easy and makes sense.

It's especially nice at this level that I'll be able to have a few extra acid splash/ ray of frost spells kicking around. Not heavy hitters, but touch attacks are nice and energy damage is nice. Once I've used my three 'big spells,' I'll have a reserve left.

Male Human Fighter 1

Calar nodded at the eldery man who suggested the idea; he turned back to the guardsman "A good idea don't you think?"

He, along with few other able bodied men, pulled the ferry ashore.

He patiently waits until the older man, the winch suggester, gets out of the way and reels the ferry in at last.

He helps a few passengers down, including a dwarf, who immediately begins inquiring about temples. Calar hitches a thumb back to the center of town. "There is a church, west central part of the town. Take this road there."

He helps a few more down.

Before he goes back to the smithy, he pauses to ask the older gent a question, "If you end up designing a winch, let me know. I am kind of interested in that stuff."

Male Dwarf lv 1 Cleric

"Thank you, youngster," Nerek says and moves further into town, while continuing deeper into town. He sighs at the poor conditions of the roads and buildings, disappointed that humans, especially this far out, never seem to be able to build a decent city.

He finds his way to the church, and finding a quiet niche within, begins his prayers. 'There sure are a lot of people here,' he thinks to himself. Despite all his efforts to close out the sounds of the locals while he conducts his prayers in private, he can't help but overhear people whisper about a "plague" that has stricken many in the town.

Male Human Rogue 1

Meanwhile, the rogue from the city was quelling his urge to kill. "Eight silver?" he gritted, staring at the bored halfling inn mistress.

Pausing her filing of her nails, the plump halfling rolled her eyes upward at the stubbly headed human. "Did I stutter?" she asked sarcastically.

"Why... it's only a spot on the ground! Standard's five silver!" Geddoe bit out, outraged at the audacity of the innkeeper.

Sighing, as though she had explained this before, she replied, "With the sickness that's been goin' about, we need to ensure the cleanliness of our establishment. Of course, that requires more silver."

'So, she's making sure that poorer people go to other places, and still breaking even by over charging the ones who CAN pay... good tactic, considering that this is one of the only inns in this rat hole...' Geddoe thought, privately impressed, but mostly outraged. "Fine!" he snapped, reaching into his coin purse, which held only a gold piece, five silver, and all of his copper; all the rest of his wealth was secreted throughout his armor and pack. "Do you also have baths?" he asked grumpily as he slammed down the gold piece on the counter.

The halfling only had to glance at the piece before it vanished. "Hot water baths are down that hallway." The corner of her mouth quirked up. "Just three silver. Health reasons, after all."

Geddoe twitched.

*******

An hour later, Geddoe was almost glad that he was overcharged for the bath. Almost. Sure, the halfling woman wasn't joking when she said the baths were hot (he suspected that she was preparing soup for the night's supper), but with a little ingenuity (yelping and screaming before realizing that he could just take a bucket and wait for the water to cool) he was able to get cleaned for the first time in over a week. Plus, his scalp was once again as smooth as an elf's face.

Newly bathed, newly shaven, newly pink tinged, and newly fleeced by tiny filchers, Geddoe strode the riverside, looking for a place to buy a new set of clothing (leathers were not the best way to stay cool, or stay inconspicuous, after all). Hopefully, he would be able to find some clothes that WEREN'T overpriced due to "health concerns", or, gods forbid, he would have to stab someone and strip them naked.
