Vishantos grew up a on a farm where he just didn't fit in. He always wanted to be helpful, and was clever and able, but he always got distracted. He would forget to milk the cow while thinking of more efficient ways to build a barn. Once while weeding the guarden, he got lost in his own thoughts and pulled up all the turnips.
Vishantos' father eventually realized his son was not destined to be a farmer and took him to town to aprentice him as a clerk. Vishantos wanted to do more. He imagined himself achieving great things. He managed to convince his father to apprentice him out to a wizard.
Vishantos was disappointed with how much of what he did was still like menial work, but at least his mind was appreciated. And the money... even for casting minor cantrips, Vishantos was soon making more money than his father's farm was worth. Vishantos still wanted to be helpful, and found he was making a real difference to those who hired his services, but he bagan to become obsessed with wealth and belongings.
Upon completing his apprenticeship, Vishantos' master offered him a permanent place at his side. But Vishantos thought he could do more to help people on his own, and wouldn't have to share a cut with anyone.
He journeyed to the frontier, where fortunes were being made, and people were building new things and facing new dangers every day. He ended up in Falcon's Hollow.
Vishantos got a rude awakening when he realized that the people who needed his help the most couldn't pay him more than a pittance. And many of his clients turned out to be con artists that fleeced him for most of his money. And then he discovered that there were people who didn't want him to help the downtrodden. The logging consortiums thrived by keeping their workers in squalor and desperation.
Vishantos began to become jaded, and was ready to move on, maybe even go back to the city. And then people started to get sick...
