What hurts is the knowledge I am not the target demographic.
I recall how snarky I got when I heard about Battlestar Galactica being resurrected, and how crappy the jerky camera stuff looked as I watched the first few episodes.
Fast forward just a few short years, and BSG is one of my all-time faves.
I betcha', as good as Firefly is ... we'll see a reboot/remix within 10-15 years.
Be cool to see Nathan Fillion as a Shepherd, and a lady (named Jane, for bonus points) riffing on the Jayne Cobb "dumb, hired muscle" concept.

FWIW, I found the first seasons of Survivor and American Idol interesting, but I stopped watching after that, save perhaps the auditions for American Idol(there are some people who are hilariously bad/shockingly good that don't make it.).
I gave up being the target demographic a long time ago.
I didn't watch Survivor the first season, though from what I heard, I liked Rudy. I *did* watch the second season for sadistic pleasure. I knew the people would be so busy playing 'the game' that they'd forget the survival parts.* I was rewarded for my sadism.
I actually don't like watching the beginning of shows like American Idol, SYTYCD etc. The people who suck may not believe they suck, but I feel embarressed for them. Donna liked the reality shows, I don't so much, but my reality may vary.**

Re: First spoiler- Hey, don't knock it. Actual survival in an area that is passively trying to kill you isn't easy, I might last an extra day due to my boy scout stuff(which is now probably horribly out of date), but not much longer than that w/o help.
Re: Second spoiler- AI and SYTYCD is an interesting look at what people who are seriously trying to "make it". I run into a couple of such folks at the second job from time to time doing small gigs at a few bars- the life of a genuine starving artist is not to be envied.

I don't knock it. I know they've had to evacuate a couple people for health reasons over the years. And the pain and agony sucks for them, but they at least don't end up with a case of death.
And I understand. I mean I did toss my hat into the ring of RPGSS after all :-) I admire those with some level of talent for their dedication to keep trying. I've read many accounts from successful writers about how they were doing the 'bussing tables' bit. (Or as David Drake wrote, "Fortunately I was a Lawyer in my day job, and wasn't writing as a source of primary income."

Hey, I did too!! shakes fist at server losing my entry
And yeah. I still wonder how my life would have been different if I had gotten my degree in creative writing.

Don't get me wrong. I loved BSG too. They lured the audience in with boobs and explosions and then sprung an emo soap on them. I believe that is why Caprica failed. It started with the emo soap.
For the record, I loved Caprica too. Boobs are nice, but not necessary. Srsly.
I disagree with this entire statement.

Firefly is dead. FOX has killed it and is preventing its resurrection.
Let it go. Move on.
NEVER! As long as there is a shread of hope and a chance that the show might be back on air, i will not let go or move on.
OTOH, is there someplace you can donate money for Fillion's effort to buy the show?

Is it just me or does "Burn the land and boils the sea, you won't take this thread from me" just not have the same feel to it?
I so miss Firefly as well, but if it did come back, how would that work? They could not come back where the show left off (actors age after all). If they pick up from where Serenity left off, then Wash and Book are gone (and don't yell about spoilers, if you haven't seen the movie by now, you most likely never will).

Maybe they are only MOSTLY dead....

No.
But Rupert Murdoch can. ... and has.
Courtesy died years ago. That doesn't stop me being courteous. Oh, and to paraphrase Issola: "Courtesy means advancing your own goals without unintentional harm to other people."
NOTE: This isn't directed at you, or your post/statement, merely an example of something that has "died", but is still possible in this day and age. Not that I think Firefly is actually coming back. But a guy can dream, yes? I can pull a King Lear and rage at the gods. I can rail against the system. And, ultimately, I can do whatever small part I can to display my views, opinions, and feelings. Including the watching of Firefly this evening. Even though I own two copies of the series--DVD & BluRay--and more than three copies of Serenity. (They bred somehow, as I've only ever bought two. Go figure.) :)
And don't get me started on Murdoch. I'd have to abandon all courtesy. ;)

Shepherd Book has left the building. RIP Ron Glass.
Very sad news. He was a great actor with a lot of good roles, one of those actors who'd show up on a TV show to deliver gravitas. Joss Whedon gave him one hell of a role to play and he played it to the hilt.

He'll be back, he was Buddhist. Or was he the "spiritual but not religious" type of Buddhist?
Take me out to the Black,
Tell 'em I ain't comin' back

Fox TV is willing to do a FIREFLY reboot.
The only caveat is that Fox will only do it if Joss Whedon is involved, and they think he'll be too busy with movies. However, I'm not sure that's the case, given his break-up with Marvel.
The other important thing is that previously Whedon had said it was unlikely he'd consider a reboot as too many castmembers were on other shows, but right now only Morena Baccarin and Gina Torres have full-time roles on other shows (GOTHAM and SUITS respectively). A full 20-episode season would therefore be out, but a mini-series should certainly be doable.
The only question is if Whedon would be up for it. He's more recently said that resuming the story 12+ years after the events of SERENITY would be difficult and he'd be worried about damaging the reputation of something that is so beloved. On the other hand, if he came up with an idea to make it work, that'd be worth a look.

Whedon: "Meh, I'm not up for it. Too much time has passed, water is under the bridge. Let's move on."
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Whedon: "Actually, lets do it. Where's that contract people, let's roll."

This is such a tease.
Is the CEO of Fox called Shan Yu?
** spoiler omitted **
Whedon still hasn't responded to the offer (publicly, anyway).
I am wondering, if this goes ahead, if Baldwin will be involved. Whedon was really not happy with some of the Twitter exchanges they had over politics and apparently Baldwin got annoyed with Whedon for vaccinating his kids (Baldwin is an anti-vaxxer) and they got into some dust ups (to Whedon's distress, as apparently when making the show and the movie they could disagree over politics and then go for a beer anyway). Jayne is probably the most disposable character on the show, so it's not as big a problem as Fillion or Glau not coming back, but I suspect some fans would not be happy.
If it's more of a Next Generation thing or a new story set in the Verse with new characters, that's less of a problem.

Interesting... I just re-read this thread from the beginning (well, most of it). In 2007 we were all talking about how stupid it was that Fox were keeping hold of the rights when others wanted to make it. Rights they had for 10 years.....
This now feels like a way to renew those rights and then dump it again. Or am I too cynacle?

I hope that he doesnt do it. SERENITY was an almost perfect wrap up to the series.
