Hah! Rotating Ring and rotating magnetic field...

There is a Firefly Blu-Ray set in the works. Several of the actors have been called in to record additional commentary tracks for the show (the show had been recorded and occasionally broadcast in HD).

Stares at sock on hand.
"Is that so Mr Fibble?"
The Sock nods...

"Mr Fibble says: They cheated in the show...there is no artificial gravity."

As to the Stardrive: They need a superconducting container to decelerate neutrinos across a superconducting boundary and then saturate it with Hydrogen and excite with laser so the Neutrinos pick up the electrons forming mesons and a massive proton mass...then you go bang.

Has anyone here checked out Steven Brust's free online novel set in the 'verse? "My Own Kind of Freedom" http://dreamcafe.com/firefly.html

I'm up to chapter 4, and it's really good. It's pre-Serenity, but after Book and Inara hightailed it out of there.

I remember being a big fan of Buffy and Angel and wondering how Joss was going to maintain his awesome dialogue without any pop-cultural references. He delivered.

The next campaign I'm going to run is based in the 'verse, using D20 Modern and d20 Future rules. I also designed a lot of Advanced Classes for Reavers, Browncoats, Companions, Yo-Saf-ridges, Alliance Troopers, Psychic Prodigies, etc.

Yeah. I downloaded it and read it pretty soon after it came out. It was pretty good. Linkified.

I sort of working on a 'verse campaing of my own, and I've read some of your journal in the Campaing Journal area. Sounds like good stuff.

Someone should run a Firefly PbP.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

I'm considering running a Firefly PBP, but since I've never done a PBP before, I should probably play as a player in one first, right?

Also, I'll have to make a whole lot of adjustments to the PL (Progress Level) of the available equipment to fit the campaign.

I don't have time to play, but I'd love to. You will have NO trouble finding players here. And if you start it, you'll learn.

There are lots of good ideas posted here.

Just curious—how many Firefly fans watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

I think Buffy was one of the best shows ever (although I refused to watch it for the first three years or so because I hated the name). The way Buffy evolved over the first four seasons suggest to me that what we saw of Firefly was just Joss establishing setting and character so that he could really make things interesting in future seasons.

Yeah I have to say that Buffy and eventually Angel were my secretly watched shows. The Jossisms were great and the writing fantastic. I must say though that the early season of both shows were kinda sad and the final seasons didn't live up to what ever the big finale was supposed to be.

Here is the entire season of: > Firefly <

I saw that SciFi is showing Serentiy this Saturday night.

Also: who here owns the entire series on DVD? I know all my friends and I do. That sort of devotion to the series, and the sales of that may convince Fox to continue the show. Maybe...

The series had me when Mal kicked the guy into the engine. That was the first episode I watched and I knew I was hooked after seeing that.

In fact, excuse me so I can go watch that again...

I was in Best Buy the other day and noticed that the entire TV run is on a single Blue Ray disc, along with the un-aired episodes. I've hinted to my wife that would be a good birthday present, but I'm not sure I want to wait until May.

Given what book knew about the history behind the name of Mal's ship I figured he was in charge of the Alliance's forces during the war especially that battle and left due to the guilt he felt in what happened afterwards.

Guess thats something that may never be answered.

I always figured that Sheppard was an agent, like the guy from the movie, a real beleiver, would explain why the Allience scrambled to fix him up when he was wounded, also might be why he warned Mal about dealing with him in the movie. My guess is he just had an epiphany, change his mind as to what to beleive in.

Also a good reason especially as when that bountyhunter came aboard alot was said about how he took the crew out since he dealt with Book pretty much the same way he dealt with Mal.

I own the Undeclared box-set. I highly recommend the show.

Though this reply is about two years late, I'm going to give it a try anyway!

If you enjoyed Undeclared, you should check out Freaks & Geeks, which is a similar type of show, but set in high school in the early 80s. Personally, I thought that Freaks & Geeks was simply a better version of Undeclared (which is why I just couldn't get into that show), sharing much of the same cast (Jason Segel, Seth Rogen).

Also, much like Undeclared and Firefly, it is tragically short; only one season.

If Book was a 'retired' Agent, that would make all the Alliance 'Agents' and Bounty Hunters in the series as 'African Americans'...wouldnt that make firefly 'racist'?

Well; this wouldnt do much; I read a current NASA report on artifical gravity on stations they are going to build in the future; I think to get moderate gravity; a point of rotation would need to be about 5 miles in length; it is easy to generate an electromagnetic feild; but really; that doesnt do much but affect special clothing; having gravity is just cheaper to shoot for effects. It would probably cost a lot to shoot with the effects of no gravity.

Me too; he was a very interesting character. Probably my favorite; loved the first episode with him as he meets kaylee and their exchange.

I am thinking along the same lines as Hopeless, some big wig in the alliance military or perhaps some spook agency.

if you havent bought or borrowed the entire series; the three or so shows they never aired are totally worth watching; just awesome.

Is that the one where River talks about being an Alliance unit cut off from their Main unit by 'Dinosaurs'? I so think they ran into 'aliens'.

That's the one, the "alien" was in another episode, the one where Mal and Zoe's war buddy has himself mailed to the crew, but Simon I.D.s it as a mutated cow fetus. Gawd I love this show.

dont think so he is filming a movie now IMDB says

New DVD movies would seem to be quite possible. If FIREFLY had come along a few years later, it's likely that Fox wouldn't have cancelled it, at least not without looking at DVD and download sales (this is what saved DOLLHOUSE for a second season). Back in 2002 that sort of stuff was simply not taken into consideration.

Given that the actors are scattered to the four winds, a return to a full TV series seems unlikely, but straight-to-DVD movies seem very doable.

HaVE I mentioned recently just how f&%$ing sweeeet Firefly is??

Really? There was the one where River and Simon got captured by hicks and they thought River was a witch that was a bit lame. But even that had a few good lines.

"We seem to have turned up in the nick of time to save the day, what does that make us, Zoe?"
"Big damn heroes, sir."

Otherwise I think they had a pretty high quality streak.

The only one I can think of that really bothered me was the one with the stellar beginning (and Jayne's hat) whose whole "tragic ending" relied on the crew being too stupid to open their mouths and tell the guest star what was going on. There were plenty of opportunities for them to say, "Hey, we're pretending we're going to turn you in, but really we won't, it's all a ploy" and they never did. If I were that guy, when I was dying at the end, I would have been all, "Gee, thanks for letting me in on the plan, guys, now that my ignorance has resulted in my death. Really, thanks for being communicative."

It's been a long time since I watched it and the details are fuzzy, but the sense that an excellent episode was ruined by a plot that required everyone to act like morons has stuck with me.

Bad episodes of Firefly?!!! That's like....like blasphemy. Wash your mouths out people!!

(Sorry, I'm a bit of a fan)

I think it's a pretty widely held opinion that even the weakest episodes of FIREFLY are just that, weak, not 'unwatchably awful', which you can't say about BUFFY ('Beer Bad' and a lot of Season 1, anyone?). It's one of the reasons this 14-episode series still has so many people talking about seven years after it was cancelled.

Weak? Yes! I definatly though the Lasiter would have been unsellable and somehow wound up in Mal's Collection of Firearms (along with the laser weapon he would have got from 'Rance's corpse' the Heart of Gold episode.

I say add 10 years to the Storyline and call it BLUESUN. All you need is Jayne Cobb and River Tam (with the small ship she lifted from the Bountyhunter Jubal).

Exerpt from Bluesun:

Cobb drilled in above the latrine he knew was there from the last visit and fitted an Air Hose. River stared out across the mammoth vessel at the stars. "Beautiful."
"Now, this is going to give you air for your journey. Once they move to launch the Transport Shuttle, you will need to move quick."
"Tam? You OK?" River nodded. "I'm OK."
River could feel them torturing her brother. She really wasn’t OK about it. "She's on WHITEFALL, with Jayne Cobb. Just stop hurting them." Kaelee couldn’t let them torture him or the others.
This one had spent a lot of time with River Tam. They made Kaelee Scream.
"I'll be waiting for your call." Jayne Cobb retreated toward Serenity leaving the small woman attached to the Alliance Cruiser.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jayne Cobb stared at the distant facility with the rifle scope for a while before turning to address his companion. It sat across a mile of open desert. They would be exposed to the sensors the instant they left cover of the rock that now sheltered them.
"And you are certain they have the Doc and the others in there?" River Tam nodded. "All right Girl; when can we move?"
"First window in eighty seconds...mark." River Tam turned the trophied axes taken from her encounter with the Reavers in her hands until she had the balance.
"Are you sure you don’t want one of my guns?" Cobb was feeling concerned that she still carried those blades. "I know you are fond of them and all."
"I'm fine." River smiled. Their relationship was coming along fine. At least he respected her as his better in the killing arts.
"Once at the first waypoint we have to stand there for eighty three minutes before we run for the next." Jayne hated the idea of having to stand that long in the open sun without water.
They fell quiet for a long while before River broke the silence.
"Five." River tensed her grip.
"Four." She felt Cobb ready himself.
"Three."
"Two."
"One."
Zero. They surged forward at the same moment and ran forward toward the first scanning null.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Jayne Cobb stood at the threshold of his prize and waited.
It was a stupid gorram plan anyway. Serenity was his. All he would have to do is turn and walk back up to the flight deck and leave Mal and the others to die at the hands of those Alliance bastards. He thought about it. He promised her he’d be here. What the Hell, she wouldn’t be the first woman angry at him. Cobb turned and walked toward the upper gantry stairs.
Jayne noticed the Reaver Cleaver spin past the corner of his left his eye a few seconds after his foot touched to first step up to the flight deck gantry. He paused as it cut through a wire strut and embedded itself in the metal framework of the steps.
She was alive. She was angry, she was in a killing mood, and she was here.
Jayne turned toward her.
“You find them?” She looked like s+@#. Suit must have caught fire during atmospheric entry.
“…you O.K.?” River ignored Jayne and walked slowly toward him with her remaining Cleaver bouncing in her left hand.
“Whoa there darling, I’m here aren’t I?” He put a hand up in protest and backed up against a metal railing. Her booted shin snapped into his groin like a hammer. Jane dropped heavily on his knees.
“Damn it woman…what the hell are you doing?” A kick to the head and he was on his back with River Tam straddling his chest like a saddle and her cleaver blade jammed up beneath his right armpit. River Tam closed for her prize and bit him on the lip hard before pulling away.
“Missed you.” River’s voice was seductively playful.
Jayne Cobb looked at the strange turn of events straddling his living corpse with concern; Looked past her at the cleaver embedded in metal and back at the one jammed up under his armpit. “So I noticed. I’m hoping that was intentional.”
River smiled and shook her head. That was discouraging. That one meant fifty-fifty in crazy girl language. Jayne Cobb closed his eyes and felt the load on his chest lighten.
“So…did you track them?” Was she still there? His eyes snapped open and he looked about. The Cleaver under his armpit was gone. She was working on the one embedded in the Steps.
“They’re not far off.”

The whole series had me hooked. In fact who needs sleep I got to watch it again.
