Dungeon 141 Sea Wyvern's Wake NPC Presentation

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

I haven't read the whole adventure yet, as I just got the magazine today, but I love the way the NPCs are presented in "The Sea Wyvern's Wake." A very attractive and useful layout, with the NPC in its own different color sidebar with a little portrait on the bottom of a page.

I hope that becomes a regular feature in future magazines. It's eye-pleasing and functional. Thanks!!!

It'll probably become the standard for NPC-heavy adventrues. We'll be doing a similar treatment in "Tides of Dread," the 5th adventrue path, but with dinosaurs instead of NPCs. The main disadvantage is, of course, that it costs a lot more to order that many head shots, so don't expect it to happen that often.

But yeah... I really, REALLY like how the NPC sidebars turned out for "Sea Wyvern's Wake." Yay!

The portraits are nice, but just the way the stat block is presented is what I liked....so even if there isn't a portrait involved, I would still like this format.

I can't wait to see what they have turned out looking like:)

I haven't yet seen this new format, but it sounds good. Would it be possible to reuse portraits from the collections of B&Ws in Dragon? They were well-sized for the average mug shot space on character sheets, and I was sorry to see that feature go. Right up there with maps of mystery, to me.

The layout is a hit with me and the arrangement of stat blocks has been a long-time issue with me, as I like to move things around during a game and hate stat blocks scattered all over the place. Putting the stat blocks for key NPCs in the way it was presented in the Sea Wyvern's Wake was a great idea. While they're still scattered around, they're easy to find and in the same place on each set of pages, so that's a timesaver, which I appreciate greatly.

I'm almost done reading the adventure and it's solid gold. I hate to tell you that Nicolas' adventure is also very good, so you won't get any ammo from me for your little friendly taunt fest. The way you guys keep churning out the quality stuff is just daunting for amateurs like me. Keep it up!!

Do I get any ammo? Please. Nobody likes me F2K! At least chime in on that thread and tell people my adventure is good. There about to tear me to pieces my man! SAVE ME!! SAVE ME!!!

Ahem...what I mean is...everything is going swimmingly in my little competition, Pett and his few scattered supporters are already on the run.

Can't wait to see this new format! Sounds awesome!

You probably need to contact customer service via email.

Does it happen in issue 142?

Agree 100%.

Is licensing existing "head shot" art from folks like Claudo Pozas or other artists an option?

I like the NPC format too but I also like the portraits included. I agree with F2K that having the stat blocks in their own box and in the same position on each page makes them easy to find and easy to use (or modify) - always a great feature in an adventure.
