Man, here's some crap that happened to me at work.
So I was looking up on the internet about "bone scans and Padgett's disease," which is actually applicable to work,...and I find a possible site on the search engine, so I click it. It comes up and says, "do you want to make this your home page?" so I click "no" and it makes it my home page.THEN, it starts popping up some of the nastiest porn I've seen on my computer at work and saying, "you're infected with spyware; look I found all this porn on your computer!!!"
SO I turned it all off, and went and told my boss (who is the coolest boss in the world), and then I got the security program to get rid of all the crapola. He said it's not a virus but it's a malicious adware and the security should've stopped it but for some reason the security thing was off.
HH - I work IT in a hospital & we NEVER turn the "security program" off. WTH?!
I was like, "now...this here porn?,,,this ain't me, man. This ain't my thing. I just look at Dungeons and Dragons stuff." What a day.

Actually I think "hentai" means something close to "perverted" in japanese, but is most commonly used to describe anime / manga / cartoon pornography (as Diagle said) - although rope bondage would probably be considered quite hentai as well.

The points they make about how long it will be before your pics end up on google or something is really something to think about; hehe and the security department says...will let you read it, but it has me fired up.

Today I actually have a rant that has nothing to do with politics, D&D, or even me. I'm talking about school uniforms. Driving to work today (riding actually, I let my better-half drive) I saw the young kids waiting for the school bus. Now its cold here in Philly today (highs in the 20s with bad wind chill), and some of those poor young chicks whose schools have uniforms were wearing skirts. That's messed up. In this day and age, you would think that they would allow young ladies to wear pants as a uniform instead of skirts, especially on a day like today. And it isn't just the catholic schools. Some public schools adopt uniforms and do the same thing. Crazy! If I ever have kids, I hope the dress code is modernized by then.

I also hate that anti-gun people have hobbled our ability to defend ourselves from the scum that have free reign on the streets. I read somewhere that someplaces in Texas where it is legal to carry firearms in plain view actually have a much lower gun-related crime history. I also read that in areas that allow a citizen to defend their property with deadly force there is a much lower crime rate also.Arm the sheep, take on the wolves!

The real "small print" when it comes to hybrids is that if you live anywhere where AC is crucial you are not using the electric part of the engine much, if at all.
Sometimes we need to spell things out. I was trying to figure out why the ability to hit hybrids easier was crucial. I never thought of a hybrid having a high AC. :)

OMG! That ridiculous irrelevant analogy totally changes my opinion. Wow. That should be widely distributed, then everyone will change their mind.
Seriously, this war of b@@#~&$% strawmen arguments is absurd. It's crap like this that renders most political discourse in this country into a worthless shouting match. There are so many holes that can be poked in this "analogy" that it makes my head spin. As a fun exercise, stretch your mind, see if maybe you can see the holes and why this argument may not be persuasive. Hint: Washington DC and Iraq have some other features that might be relevant in drawing the analogy.

It seems like you might possibly have forgotten about Iraqi deaths here. Also, your math is backwards - 80 is 133% of 60, which means that you are 33% more likely to get shot in DC. Of course, that only serves to strenghten your.., um, argument.

Someone in another thread said that his players were complaining that he would not allow players to choose races out of the Monster Manual.
It's strange because I've made the same ban in my games and no one has an issue with it. If someone DID have an issue with it, I would tell them "Okay, YOU run the game then."
I honestly don't know what the fascination with playing bizarre stuff out of the Monster Manual is. I cannot wrap my brain around the notion of playing a troll or an ettin (or any other such contrived creature) as any kind of serious, well-roleplayed concept. It seems to me that all such characters end up as comic relief and if your party is FULL of them, then your whole campaign is just a joke.

That would require 967 murders in Washington in a year. Not to mention that you would need to have every one of the Washington DC people carrying a military firearm for a parallel to be drawn. And that isn't the only people who are dying in Iraq, differing estimates put the death toll of Iraqi citizens somewhere in the neighborhood of 30,000 to 80,000 (depending on who's info you trust). NOW do your little murder-rate tally with even the lowest number of Iraqi deaths.

My players want to play things like pixies and centaurs and stone giants. They think that they are 'cool'. Admittedly some of the races in the Monster Manual are cool but for the most part I wouldn't want to play them. I personally prefer races from the the Player's Handbook but they still have problems understanding that whatever the DM says is law. Sometimes they make me so angry. Anyway I am going to allow them to play these races using the racial progression levels.

I think players are envisioning the archtypes displayed by either Chewbacca or Drizzt when they want to play monsters. Each has an interesting story to tell. Chewbacca is an example of the noble savage archtype, and the story is about why this character is in an "advanced" society and how people react. This works for good/neutral monsters (e.g., centaurs). Drizzt, of course, is the classic outcast hero. The player gets to play off of being misjudged/treated badly and the classic angst of being an outcast. In either case, there's built in drama for the choice.
(I suppose I should mention the third type, which is our beloved friend the power gamer, who just wants the badest ass race available, roleplaying be damned).
I guess what I'm rambling about is that playing monsters is like playing paladins. You force the game to revolve more around your character because that character comes into conflict with the world around him. If there is too much conflict (e.g., drow are killed on sight), the model breaks down. If there are too many weird characters, there's not enough spotlight to go around.
Anyway, I'm not saying you should allow monsters into the campaign, but I think that the motivation for playing monsters is similar to the motivation for playing paladins.

I don't usually mind the +1 LA ones, like hobgoblin, lizardfolk, etc and the lesser ones, goblins, kobolds, etc. but I would never allow someone to play a pixie or a stonegiant. I mean really, what would an EL1 stone giant be, in a crib or something?!? How would you progress in stone giant from infancy?!? Maybe every few years they would gain racial hd and such?
If I ever did something like use high powered monsters as PCs I would only do it for one shots or a small campaign arc (3-5 levels)FH

Actually we license for concealed carry state-wide. I'm pretty sure that Texas isn't the only state with concealed carry laws.

I have no idea what you said. Part of me wants to suggest that you type in complete sentences and use proper punctuation, but I'm not really interested in having what little meaning I can tease out delivered in greater detail (I doubt coherency will accompany any additional thoughts offered). Let me get this straight - you are saying that all the 30k to 80k of Iraqi casualties were terrorists?
No, mostly ordinary people (men, women, and children)caught in the crossfire. I believe their is a separate list for the terrorists and rebels' casualties, but I am not positive.
And yes, my heart does bleed for any family who is killed that just wanted to live life. If your heart doesn't feel pain when innocents are killed then I truly pity you.FH

Something is messed up. When I look at the listing of threads it says that this one has something like 2,687 posts but then the thing at the top of the first page of the rant thread says that there are only 2,639. Am I missing something?

It's actually amazing that this thread has a count on the main page of this forum as accurate as it does. Typically, once you start getting up over about 50 posts, Paizo starts doing strange things, like telling you there are more or less (usually less) posts than really exist in the thread. It's minor, but it does cause one to go, "Wha...?"

In my campaigns the people who like to play monsterous races aren't seeking tobe a noble savage or outcast hero but are simply power gaming. It drives me crazy but I ahven't been able to get them to stop power gaming.

Orcs and goblins (and similiar low-powered races) I don't really have an issue with. An all-orc campaign might be interesting, but it's not something I could see working as a long-term campaign (i.e. more than 5 levels spanned). +1 LA races, as FH said, are usually not a problem. Even +2 can get by on occassion with a good reason. I've had the occassional tiefling in my game as well as a drow or two, but if you ask me to play a troll, a half-fiend, or a half-dragon (unless it's a Dragonstar campaign, where they are an accepted mainstream race), so help me....
And it looks like Valegrim is spending too much time trying to post over on the "Untitled" thread where they all seem to speak funny.
