Having gone through high school graduation last year and just finished my freshman year of college, I *think* I can understand the feeling somewhat. Congratulations on the impending events, by the way.

Thanks, Saern. For me, high school graduation was a lot less emotional than the impending college one, which is why I'm a bit surprised about how this is going. Three years from now, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about and I'm sure you'll have more than a few things to be proud of yourself by then. Enjoy college while you can. People say high school is the best time of your life: those people either grew up when college wasn't so common or they're full of s#!$. College is infinitely better and it goes by so quickly. Seems like just yesterday I was moving into New York City from suburban Connecticut, scared s++#less. Now I'm moving back to suburban Connecticut from NYC, scared s!&*less for a different reason!

Oh, I'm already aware of the vast superiority of college in terms of my general enjoyment and especially in practicality. High school graduation was a bit of a big deal for me, though, because of the circumstances. My high school and elementary school were one "educational" unit, right next to each other and then conjoined into one building. I had gone there and known the people in my class since kindergarten, so it wasn't just the end of a four year segement of my life, but a thirteen year segment that started when I was five.

That said, I'm already over it and looking forward to being around colleges for the foreseeable future (I plan to go on to a doctorate at this point).

Still, cheers!

If you didn't want your garden to get eaten, you shouldn't have made it so delicious. If I was in your yard, I'd probably eat your garden, too.

Plus, groundhogs have to eat a lot to stay so pudgy and adorable.

Working for two years in a lab as a botanical chemist, I found an Micronesian plant dye that, once on human skin, induced a homocidal rage. So for kicks I once dyed a man just to watch him kill.

It must have been CSI: Miami -- that show is definitely a neurotoxin.

Well, thanks. I'm considering grad school, but I'm going to see what I can get happening in the next few years. Takes 3-5 years to make illustration into a career, so I'll give it about that much time before looking into further education.

I'm sure that there are more important things going on in the world right now, and that there are lots of people out there that are in much worse shape than me, but I am a bit bummed out this evening.

I keep thinking about one of the players in my current group. He is running one campaign every other Thursday, and I am running a different campaign on the alternate Thursdays.

When I first got into this group, a third fella, Martin, was running. His campaign was really cool, and I enjoyed myself very much. When Martin was done with his campaign, however, he said that he wanted to take a while off and play instead of run.

So me & this other guy decided to alternate. Now this other DM acts as if he really hates the fact that he has to share the spotlight. I constantly get the feeling that he would rather I stop running altogether and just let him run all the time.

The real down side to this is that I'm just not really feeling his campaign. I don't always enjoy playing it. I'm actually still not entirely certain why the characters are adventuring instead of, say, farming or something. They would probably make more money and find more magic items by farming, and would not have the risk of life and limb.

So I work way too many hours per week at a job that I'm pretty much stuck in. I doubt that I could make as much money anywhere else, and my wife and I are accustomed to a certain level of comfort that I'm not sure we could leave. Because I work so much, I have to lean heavily on adventures from Dungeon magazine as I don't have a lot of free time to write my own stuff.

Now, here comes the part that, for some reason that I can't completely fathom, really gets to me. The other DM frequently says that the only reason my campaign is any good is because somebody else wrote it. This insinuates that I couldn't write a decent campaign on my own. In fact, I even wrote the last chapter entirely by myself, drawing absolutely nothing from Dungeon or Dragon magazines, but he still insists that everything I run is "stolen." Yet, time and again, we have found that all aspects of his campaign come from some video game or another. He just won't stop giving me crap about me not writing my own campaign.

Time and again I find myself considering just stopping my campaign, so we can get his over with faster and out of the way and go back to a game that everybody enjoys.

Paizo Employee Managing Developer

I feel for you man. Stick it out and be the bigger man.

My group got split into two groups years ago because of a ego driven player/DM conflict but we've kept on and there's some crossover.

That guy is just being a jerk. Hopefully Martin is getting annoyed too and picks his game back up. Every adventure has already been written somewhere. Everyone borrows a theme or concept. Its the nature of art to build upon other artists in an interesting new angle.

I don't run pre-published adventures but I've played in them, sometimes the same ones under different DMs and they are always different. Its the flavor and organization that the DM brings to the table that matters.

Roll strong. Avoid wanting to kill his PC in your game. ;P

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can't stop running I will cry! Personally, I love your game, and I have no problem with you using the magazines, hell that's what they are there for, the next time he insinuates that you are "stealing" your story tell him that he should try running his without using the monster manual since he obviously bases all of his adventures around it, then tell him to create an original world that isn't based off of videogames. Oh yeah, I don't think he's angry at you or anything, he just feels bad that his doesn't quite stack up to yours, but he does this without realizing that you have ran games in the past while he's running his first.

I think that said DM gets a little frustrated that he can never get through things as quickly as he'd like. (i.e. the fact that a few weeks ago was the first time we ever actually completed a one shot in one sitting!) he really wants to make it good, and I personally think he tries too hard sometimes. too many ideas, and not enough clarity.

I really enjoy your game cuz you keep things going and are very clear about everything. there are a few too many options in the other. hope you don't mind that I revivified you the other day. let me know if you'd rather die and begin anew!

he really loves your playing your campaign. he is just giving you crap about the setting, etc. he knows he is just as guilty w/the whole vidoegame thing. you should really write out you campaign as we play!

Yeah, I might have been dogging his campaign a bit too harshly the last couple of days: most likely because I feel like he is always dogging mine.

One of the main reasons that I use a pre-made campaign world is because, if you guys all want to, you can read up on things that have happened in other parts of the world and have a richer, deeper understanding of the events around you. Many of these events won't ever impact your characters in the least, but they give great background. I might be using the world of Greyhawk, but it is still MY interpretation of said world, and the way that the NPC's interact with you is all mine. Also, I HAVE actually written quite a bit of what you played already--I just felt like he completely disregarded that fact.

And primadonna829, I am totally glad that you brought me back. I appreciate it very much. I was just ranting a little on the other thread.

Nothing to fear, Mighty Bane, I will continue this campaign as long as the group wants me to.

I felt bad for the guy. He's a U.S. citizen and his country turned its back on him. They said that they couldn't treat him in Europe that they would just let him die because they didn't have the technology to treat him. I'm sorry if I was sick I would be making a Bee-line to the U.S. whether or not they wanted me. On the other hand if it wasn't me I think I would have told him to stay the hell away. I am all for self-presevation.

100% agreement. That BS about them not having the means to treat him is ridiculous and I would suspect he lied about that. This pinhead decided, after having time to think about it, to exposed several hundred innocent men, woman, children and infants to a life threatening disease. He is a s##+. yeah, I think Martin tells a good story. though I happen to find him slightly hypnotic (hence my falling asleep every session when we first started playing). I think I've gotten over that though. maybe it was just due to being preggers. well, I've gotten over that too. so bring it on Martin!

I think I am a completely sucky bard. You should definitly fill that position whenever we make new characters for whatever game. I guess I just need to sit down and read. anybody wanna hold a study session?
