old school villains

Dungeon Magazine General Discussion

I just came back to d&d after nearly a ten year layoff. The group i'm playing with is still fairly new to the game however. I was hoping to shake things up for them by bringing back Warduke. I can't seem to find the issue that has his stats in it though. if anybody out there can help please email me whatever you have on him to gideonrift@msn.com

Warduke was statted out in issue No. 105. It's a hard issue to find because of him. Perhaps Paizo would be kind enough to reprint the article here.

Gideonrift, You might check out the Warduke thread on this list. There were a couple of helpful folks on that list - one who was even nice enough to email the text to a few people.

On the subject of Ole Skool Villains (sorry but when you are kickin' it ole skool - you gotta kick it ole skool!) What about folks like Emrikol the Chaotic (from DMG 1st ed. and "Paladin in Hell"), Baron Ludwig von Hendriks and Bargle the Infamous (last seen in the "Grand Duchy of Karameikos") or Strad (who got recapped in Dragon not to long ago)? There are a lot more villains out there that need some airing out.

So Dungeon Editorial Staff how about a "Villain's Lore Book" for the rest of us folks who don't travel the Realms? Unlike the "realm's" book it would certainly be more general and therefore more accept able to the purchasing public. Heck, it could even be a book of "Critical Threats" and then Evard could get dropped in.

You down wit dat?

While i am an avid Forgotten realms fan as well as DM. i totally agree with GGG. Putting together source material like this and making it more general would make it easy to adapt to any campaign setting either published or homebrew.

Hmm, how old school are you looking for? Warduke was an 1980's bad boy, let me help you by recalling all his lackeys.
There was the Ogre King (a Ogre with a troll bloodline in my game), Zarak the Half Orc assassign, Kelek the necromancer or rather an evil wizard who had fiendish blood in his veins hence a human with pointed ears and rather nasty looks. my favorite would have to be Warduke, I do have his stats if you need them just let me know.

See unearthed arcana if you need further info on bloodlines.

Kelek the sorceror... that takes me back.... my mom made the ridiculous outfit they put him in for the action figure for me when I was a kid. I think I even still HAVE the action figure... the warduke one too, now that I think about it.

That would be a great ongoing feature. NPC Villains and their m/o as well as an overview of their npcs, and if they have a base of operations, maybe even that with a map. Then it can be compiled annualy as an insert with some bonus material and titled something like... Villainous Volume or something like that.

Actually we could do that here if nobody minded.

You could always try sending a query... worst that happens is James or Eric likes the idea and sticks you with the task of writing it.

Here's my dream: Emirikol the Chaotic as a Critical Threat!

I have a library of old adventures and books filled with villans, that would be heaven for me. I can think of at least 20 Greyhawk old school villans off the top of my head.

ERR... That might be cool, only, I like them(James & Erik) so I would feel bad when they found out I couldn't write my way out of a paper bag. I would however be willing to break out my crayolas and draw the heck out of it! lol
But IF they did like the idea, I am lucky enough to know a couple of extremely talented writers that are big D&D fans...
