Treerazer's plots for a swift win against the elven nation of Kyonin have been thwarted by the heroics of a band of adventurers. As they seek critical secrets from a mysterious voice calling from an otherplanar realm, though, will a desperate acceleration of the demon lord's plans spell doom for the elves? Can the heroes stop him in time?

The Voice in the Blight is a Pathfinder adventure for four 18th-level characters. This adventure concludes the Spore War Adventure Path, a three-part monthly campaign in which a group of adventurers aid the elves in a war against an army of demons. This adventure also includes an article that explores the regional ramifications of the Spore War, powerful new magic items to aid heroes against their foes, and several sinister new monsters.

Too much infiltration, not even actual War.

3/5

They really milked the infiltration subsystem for everything it was worth with this AP, and it's a shame that it feels like a delay mechanic for the final battle's pay off. Lots of neat ideas and adventure seeds, some more interesting than what we got. Tarbaphon gets a head in the end, and some ominous splash art.

More war interludes, which start over in sequence rather than from where they left off in book 2, despite the Triumph points carrying over throughout the campaign. Relics get super powered, intelligent, and act independent of the player's turn. Huge power spikes.

The final battle depends on your score with Triumph and Torment points, along with the fate of Kyonin, which can all be for nothing if the Queen is killed at any point and then Kyonin just falls. Ideally like Curtain Call you want to max out points, but no group will get all 58 total for the best possible ending. It's a battle of logistics really.

No Word on ancestries in the Darklands whom should be aware of Treerazer in and out of their frontyard, bad timing with source book releases for the new Lost Omens/Shinning Kingdoms book. Just not cooked enough, and needed some more time, despite the 30+ years it's been kicked around by the Creative Director. This wasn't what was promised, and felt more like a mission impossible style adventure than an all out war with Treerazer which the players never see outside of all these covert missions. We're given great ideas, and missing a great deal of substance where the 100 pages was more about possibilities than the outcome.

EDIT: I had to come back and up the score a star, as my discussion on the AP with people convinced me it ended well and was worth the journey. Credit where credit is due.

Just to manage expectations: The "regional article" is in fact this Adventure Path's "Beyond the Campaign" article. It still does what it says on the tin, but more in the scope of "what's next" rather than being a generalized article.

I hope we actually get to kill Treerazor. Too many adventures (across companies) always have you defeat “aspects of.” It’s interesting that the APs often have you take part in earth shattering events (breaking Tar-Baphon seals, build whole new nations, etc.) but is always very tentative on letting you completely destroy the iconic baddies, although it’s arguably less status quo impacting on other things APs let you do.

I get not fully breaking toys but 18 years later, I think we should get to shatter one…

To answer that question... (and after a sneaky correction of the spelling of Treerazer in your quoted message)...

Spoiler:
This one is not tentative about letting you fight Treerazer. "Kill the toughest monster in the book" is a plot we did back in the Dungeon Magazine era, where we did Savage Tide and the PCs got to kill Demogorgon (who was the toughest monster in the original AD&D Monster Manual.

Since then, I've tried multiple times to get a "kill Tarrasque" Adventure Path off the ground, since in 1st edition Pathfinder, Tarrasque was the toughest monster in the Bestiary. Alas, that never came to pass for various reasons, and now that ship has sailed.

So the time was more than right to put Treerazer out there for PCs to potentially defeat. After all, that was the plot of one of the first adventures I ever wrote for my Homebrew. I used some elements of that adventure "The Secret of Deathstalk Tower" in the adventure of the same name I wrote for part 2 of "Spore War" in fact, although you don't confront Treerazer until the last adventure.

Whether or not your PCs can kill him depends on how much success they have on the adventures themselves to build up their resources and to whittle down his!

Aww man, would have been nice to kill off Tarrasque before he got banished by lawyers x'D

If this suggestion for a PF2 mythic AP happens, there might be the opportunity to kill one of the other Spawns of Rovagug...

I suppose folks will have to play the Adventure Path to find out!

In a purely mechanical lens, yes. At level 20 you are more tolerant to harm than at low levels, so with a bit of prep, maybe some allies, a party of non-mythic level 20 characters can take down Treerazer.

It's above an extreme encounter, but with castings of 9th rank heroism, 7th rank haste, dissapperance, some hero point, and other buff spells precasted or easily cast at the start of encounter, you can narrowly defeat him.

Regarding Treerazer being level 25 and this NOT being a mythic Adventure Path, and getting a little bit more spoilery about the adventure (without spoiling TOO much, I hope...)

Spoiler:
A significant part of the entire Adventure Path is built toward giving the PCs advantages or denying Treerazer advantages so that when the final fight comes, it's no longer beyond an extreme encounter. Depending on how much success a group has in preparing, it could come down to a Severe encoutner in threat level.

If your group is particularly experienced in the game and works together well you'll have an even easier time fighting him, in fact.

I'm looking forward to hearing how various tables fared against him in the final encoutner... and kinda dreading it too. I did playtest the encounter, with a group of PCs who were all hyperspecialized in a way to take advantage of fighting a demon whose powers are largely skewed away from long range tactics. The unprepared raw party held their own against him for 5 rounds before we gave up as it became obvious that Treerazer was doing just fine and they were all about out of options and after some important NPC allies died. The same party with ALL of the adventure-granted advantages and disadvantages took Treerazer out in 2 rounds with no PC deaths. (Although that WAS skewed by me rolling a super low number on Treerazer's initiative... but still, even if he'd gone first it wouldn't have gone well for him.)

It's a tough thing to set up so that it's satisfying and not either a disappointing simple fight or an unfair can't win fight. Hopefully it'll work out well for most groups, and for those who it doesn't, hopefully the trip TO that fight through the adventures was a lot of fun anyway!

I am so ready for this!

Sure. There's some cool stuff in the Toolkit.:
My favourite new enemies are the Imvath and Vansidieth demons. The Imvath, or Apocalypse Demon, is the Balor replacement. The art walks the line between invoking the Balor but not resembling it too much. It's got some nasty abilities, appropriate for a 19th level creature. If you don't like Doomed, stay away from them. PCs with relatively poor Will saves are also likely to have a bad time. The Vansidieth, or Pride Demon, is the Marilith replacement. It has some pretty neat abilities that evoke the Marilith's multiple strikes but are based on having lackeys. I expect to see them with minions, which will make for some brutal fights as they are 18th level creatures. The art design differs significantly from the Marilith. Oh, and we also get a fiend that could potentially replace Treerazer once he gets more of his power back, but I won't spoil that. That would be a devilish thing to do.

Is it really though? I mean it could be, the pride demon replacement is one level higher than marilith was, but this one is still level 19 compared to balor's level 20, so would be kinda weird if replacement of "capstone demon" wasn't also a capstone demon

Its the thematic replacement for the Balor, while the level replacement is the updated Vrolikai which got moved from 19 to 20.
