The most unsettling part of all of these announcements is that there hasn’t been much discussion on how/whether the forums will exist…I don’t see a tab there in the screenshot for…Community. Not that that means there won’t be such available, but the optics, insofar as this Blog is about the Store/loyalty program as opposed to the new site, are concerning.

Just to be very clear about this, we will still have forums! Although it is not included in these screenshots specifically, there will still be a section for Community on the new site and we will still have a forum, and not only that, it'll be easier to view, navigate, and moderate (that last one was for me).

You will be missed, Zoken! Be sure to check out our Starfinder panels from home, which will be streamed live by Gen Con!

I hear you, but this is a complicated topic. People are assigning it as a negative but it needn't be. Personally I started using flavor text to avoid the negative that had been associated with fluff text. But now flavor text is being maligned for it as well. We've already ended up on the euphemism treadmill.

We can't control the context that someone adds to a phrase. On it's surface, to me, nothing about the phrase "flavor text" indicates a judgment about the material. And even if we switched to calling things descriptive text and mechanics text, we're probably all going to still end up in the same place we are right now.

Rather, I think we have to do the harder thing of reminding people that descriptive text is important and can have meaning, and even impact on the way something is adjudicated, while also say that some portion of rules text (description) are less relevant for figuring out how to run something in our games compared to other portions of the text.

Strongly agree!

We are still working on this! Some were fixed over the weekend despite the holiday, but part of the team is out for the next few days so it would be unrealistic to say everything will be resolved today.

Myself, I think the distinction is important because in whatever game i'm playing, that descriptive text may not apply but the mechanics stay the same unless there is a house rule. Secondly, if care isn't taken, flavor text written in a casual way can just confuse things. For instance, when you see text that says prey, is it related to Hunt Prey or not? You have to make a judgment call and use context clues since prey isn't capitalized. If flavor was clearly distinguishable from rule text, it'd be easier for everyone involved on what's meant to be a mechanical effect and what's meant to be evocative as a possible outcome of the effect.

To be clear on what I meant, I meant the distinction as a negative. I get differentiating them, since they are different, but I do not think that differentiating them needs to come hand in hand with narrative text being belittled as compared to rules text since I still think they're two parts of an important whole. My issue with the term "flavor text" is the negative connotation, not the differentiation. What I find silly is saying one part of the whole is less needed than any other.

Ulka hates herself for being such an effective weapon.

ultimately, they both like her because she fights like hell to end the need to fight.

Agreed. I don't even understand what is gained by creating this forum thread. Is there a numerical threshold of unhappy users that, once reached, would cause this decision to be undone?

Because if not ... this was all very pointless.

I think the point of creating this thread was to give us a place to talk about it that isn't the actual recruitment thread for the game.

This is absolutely correct! I created the thread because I noticed valid discussion about the topic on the other post, but it was also clogging the point of the other person's recruitment post. I wanted to give everyone the proper space to have their voices still heard on the subject. ^_^

As someone who works in education, I can confirm it is a scourge, but one thing that does help is having a body of evidence of a writers previous works, either written or pre AI age. Styles/habits are really hard to change.

Maya, if you are able to discuss it, do you know what kinds of checks Paizo is using to stop AI works? I'm am 100% with your companies anti AI policy, I'm just curious what tools are being used in the industry. For example, Turnitin is very popular in education atm.

On topic, not a huge fan of the artwork, but a twisted and contradictory hero who just wants to find a noble end while wishing those around her would stop being so noble for her, it's a good story buildup. Will be interesting to see where they go. Good job to both the artist and writer. While I may not like all the elements of the story and art, I applaud the efforts put into place to make such things in a very complex and old game world.

It is my understanding that they approach it as you mentioned! Evaluating the entire body of work of each writer as well as an AI checker. We really value our creatives and their work here.

This conversation is very valid, but I highly recommend making our own thread about it! I was giving a PSA for future community members so they don't keep marking this post as spam, but at this point, we are cluttering OPs post looking for players! This is however a very worth discussion, so let's take it elsewhere! First of all, thank you Maya!

Second of all, ill clarify and revisit the text (specially the Tie trait) as it is kinda cumbersome as it stands lol.

Second of all, and before I share the core class features, I want to give some insights on the direction of this class:
- Of course, this is heavily inspired by the Cipher class from the Pillars of Eternity games. But the more I went into development the more I shifted the focus onto an "absorbing & releasing of power" fantasy. This is due to not conflict with the existing Psychic class concept, and to give a class that I think we do not have on the game yet.
- As stated above, the class would have 2 main features: acquiring focus points (through Strikes primarily) and a way to release them (beyond using focus spells). This can be challenging to balance, specially as there are no ways to get focus points in the middle of combat this early and in this way (to my knowledge).
- I said is a gish, and by that I mean that it would be a "martial class". At the start I tinker with being a new bounded caster, but access to a spell list doesn't follow the core theme of the class of absorbing and releasing energy. So it's magic potential would be focused on the use of focus points primarily.

I already have all the class features, I need to tweak them before sharing the first draft. And I'm already tinkering with some class feats too! (Spoiler: you can have a familiar).

If you want to follow the project, stay put to any further posts here and on reddit!

You're welcome! I wish you luck with your campaign as well!

That is incredibly disappointing news. But I do appreciate the heads up as to Paizo’s plans to promote such ventures Maya.

Simply put, some people are so fantastic at their GM'ing skills that they do it for their job beyond just the hobby, and we support those GM's too. StartPlaying is a website that does a great job putting players together who often struggle with it, and this GM in particular has a wonderful array of 5 star reviews.

IF OP was posting a link to a discredited website, had some sort of known negative reputation, or had been posting their sessions excessively, it would still be spam. But, one post from a talented GM who does it to make a living is very much still within our guidelines. We wish ChickyBisky well, and your sessions too, Oceanshieldwolf, however you go about finding them that doesn't hurt others. ^_^

So thought for a gimmick/running gag for the movies. While Given how many iconics there are, you establish them working for the Pathfinder Society in the first movie. Then each subsequent movie, different characters would show up being sent by the Society, with references back to other established characters who aren't present giving hints of other adventures they're on.

Genius because then we can have lots.
