The Ruby Phoenix Tournament reaches its exciting conclusion! The sorcerer Hao Jin is nowhere to be found. The heroes' search for the tournament's grand judge takes them across Tian Xia's legendary Flying Mountains and face to face with the Celestial Dragon. They ultimately reach a dark demiplane where a nefarious otherworldly villain is holding Hao Jin captive. In order to rescue the Ruby Phoenix, the heroes must defeat their ultimate rivals and claim the title of tournament champions.

"King of the Mountain" is a Pathfinder adventure for four 18th-level characters. This adventure concludes the Ruby Phoenix Tournament Adventure Path, a three-part monthly campaign in which the players compete in Golarion’s most amazing international fighting tournament. This adventure also includes a gazetteer of exciting demiplanes found across Golarion, inspiring lore about the epic fighting tournaments in other corners of the multiverse, and a mountain of new monsters.

Each monthly full-color softcover Pathfinder Adventure Path volume contains an in-depth adventure scenario, stats for several new monsters, and support articles meant to give Game Masters additional material to expand their campaign. Pathfinder Adventure Path volumes use the Open Game License and work with both the Pathfinder RPG and the world's oldest fantasy RPG.

Probably the coolest book I've ever read

5/5

This legit is my favourite stretch of an adventure of all time, especially the crescendo of it all.

Fighting the evil amped up version of the party's friends into fighting the amped up version of their greatest enemies into fighting Syndara who might just have the coolest statblock in the game.

Everything just felt incredible when running it and I can recommend anyone picking this up.

Love high level content!

5/5

Fantastic book. Always love to see high levels being supported in tabletop games. Please keep making high level content!

Everything high-level play should be

5/5

James Case is a madman. This book is the shining example of what high-level play should look like. Everything is written to be strikingly cinematic, and deftly carries the weight of a truly epic conclusion to a long journey of adventuring.

They have decided to not give stats of powerful NPCs that you don't fight, mainly to not paint themselves into a corner in case they want to use them later in a context that would need specific stats.

I mean you say that and each AP still has stats for friendly npcs xD Like first ap book has stats for friendly level 20 NPC

(still though I get what you mean, Ruby Phoenix herself is different thing since for all everyone knows, they might want to do 2e mythic eventually and give previous mythic npcs some mythic spells or flavored abilities)

Yeah, by powerful I meant "globally important", small lapsus here. And by fight, I meant both fight "with" and "against". :P

Also, these NPC allies usually fit the "in a context that would need specific stats" part of my post. ;)
So yeah, I meant: If they can get away not publishing stats because it is not needed by the published text, they take advantage of that to both save some space for other content, AND to save the potential future trouble of having written a stat block they need to change.

SO how are Hao Jin's stats?

I remember from 1E that she was a Sorcerer 20/ Archmage 9.
Since we don't have mythic rules yet, I am most curious to see her stats and her full level which should be at 24.

I know we got Grendel which was a mythic creature CR19/MR7 and in 2E he is still a level 19 creature.

So would love to see what Hao Jin has.

Anyone care to share?

Well, there is this:

Grand Judge Hao Jin's orders must be followed and her rulings are final.

And it is more RAI than RAW but one 'cannot purposefully attack Hao Jin.' Does that count as a stat? :)

Not really a criticism of the books, which so far I have enjoyed, but was there a reason for all 3 being released simultaneously? I wasn't really expecting to shell out for all of them at once with my order.

Is Yoh Souran trans?

In his character writeup there was this passage:
"-Yoh was overjoyed, not just as a lifelong fan who tends to divide
the periods of his life by tournament cycles—4701 was the first tournament he attended presenting as male,"

It isn't brought up anywhere else except for this one passage so I was curious if this was intentional or not, or if there was something else I was missing, it would be really cool if so, I really appreciate paizo's representation

Yep, he is! The mention is short because his backstory/role in the AP mostly focuses on his history with the tournament and his family's ship (not to mention that high-level statblocks take a lot of space!), but I wanted to make sure that it was still stated in the text itself.

Thats wonderful! Thank you for including that, Yoh is one of my favorite npcs I've read in a while and his inclusion means a lot to me

Roll20 does not have a release date for this product at this time.
"For those of you asking about other Paizo AP/Adventure titles: Ruby Phoenix and Malevolence we don't have ready at this time, and I don't know at this point when we'll be able to release them on Roll20 but will do better to keep you updated about those timelines moving forward. At present, our production focus has been on the Lost Omens line as well as staying day-and-date with upcoming book releases like Secrets of Magic and Tech Revolution. We know we have a lot to catch up on due to Paizo's sheer volume of content and are prioritizing as best as we can to make the best Paizo experience possible for y'all!"

Can I politely request the ability to play as a particular NPC in this book?

Spoiler:
I desperately need Rikanzo and his fellow Tanuki to be a playable option. He's so dang adorable.
