Skill question for the Sovereign Court

Sovereign Court

Sovereign Court

My Sovereign Court Rogue needs to choose between Knowledge Local or Nobility. He has no knowledges currently, he does have a decent modifier of Diplomacy and Bluff. Henric is second level and my intention is to use my 4th lvl stat boost to go into Intelligence.

Which is going to be used more and which is be better for this faction?

The character in question is this alias Henric Carnes.

Thanks

Knowledge local tends to come up much more frequently, but diplomacy can also often make a good substitute with Gather Information (although not always). Knowledge nobility does come up occasionally for faction reasons, and even less frequently for mission reasons, but it does come up. It's definitely worth putting at least one rank in each if you think you can afford it.

You get 10 skill points per level with Int 14. You can definitely afford to spread the love around a little and give yourself a rank in all sorts of skills. My rogue multiclass had a rank in every single skill except Fly by level 8 or so, and was still very competent in his chosen skills.

Just do not put ranks in any Craft or Profession skills. Such things are beneath us; we have people to do those for us.

Sovereign Court

Nay, it depends. Poetry is a craft too.

...and so is the blood eagle.

Sovereign Court

I stand corrected. One of those is, indeed, a suitable craft to master.

The artistic pursuits are as noble as they come. Surely a shining beacon of elegance like yourself can recognize the value of artistry and those who create it, for what could make the world a better place than bringing yet more beauty into it? I have created amazing works of both song and erotic sculpture, and will continue to hone those skills even as I expand my capacity for such artistry. Perhaps I will practice painting, or dance next? Perhaps you could join me, you look like you'd be an entertaining companion in such pursuits.

Generally speaking, K. Local does come up more often, usually in the form of initial information gathering, which in itself can usually be substituted for a Diplomacy check. However, scenarios which do tie into the Sovereign Court do tend to have K. Nobility checks. I think it comes down to a matter of what kind of tables you go to with this character. If you plan to play him every chance you get, you might consider K. Local. On the other hand, if you tend to hold off playing him for faction tie-in missions, I'd consider K. Nobility. I personally do the latter with my Sovereign Court rogue (though he also has both skills).

Seneschal is a profession I could see a Sovereign Court agent doing during downtime.

Sovereign Court

So many Court members seem to have a profession of "trust fund".

Rude. Not all of us are rich brats! Some of us are actually learning how to run our lands, and need a way to vent our frustrations or aspirations to be better nobles. We need to know our locals and various nobles, as it is our job to act on proper information as to keep everyone not like us safe.

Sovereign Court

I object as well, I am an actor, ma'am, and studied for years at the Kitharodian Academy to learn such skills. The stress of such studies became too much for myself and I eventually washed out, as an unfortunate many of us do, but I've since put my abilities to good use by starting my own theater in Cassomir; I've even doubled down on my investment and have raised the roof (literally) to make room for private booths for other nobles. Rumor is Lord Gyr of House Gixx himself may make an appearance at my establishment the next time he comes to visit his summer manor here in Cassomir!

Sovereign Court

Even though K. Local seems to be more natural and useful for a Rogue, being an agent of a Sovereign Court would require in my opinion at least some understanding of how aristocracy system works (even for those who not part of it). Also, it is easier to have someone with K. Local in your party, apparently, then someone with K. Nobility. He or she would provide you with an advice when K. Local Check is involved then, whereas it is K. Nobility that may be particularly helpful during a private conversation or any other individual interaction when you may be expected to perform the check yourself. I would go for K. Local then (or, rather, that's what I've done actually), although it is a personal preference, of course.

Sovereign Court

If you have any experience in a court or speak with other nobles of our faction or related groups, then it would be quite wise to research Golarion's nobility.

Sovereign Court

Why not take both. Right now, this character is level 1, but I am planning to stagger the 2 knowledge's.
