Do we get a free wayfinder upon the completion of this scenario?
I would expect to see "Wayfinder" suddenly removed from the Always Available list and it appearing on the chronicle sheet so you could spend 250gp immediately to get one after completing (AKA surviving) the Confirmation. Going forward, all others would need to get 5 fame before getting one.
I would like to see characters required to drop all items/boons purchased/acquired during any prior missions, if any. This way everyone runs the mission on the same field. Nothing says "Ringer" like a wizard with wands of CLW and Magic Missile while Joe Ranger is trying to get by with a chain shirt and shortbow.

You assume every Pathfinder is a trained agent who begins field work after his training has completed.
Perhaps reading some of the Pathfinder Tales might correct this misconception. While the Grand Lodge of Absalom certainly does train freshly minted Pathfinders, they also tend to recruit professionals who are not straight out of the academy. Cat-burglars, mercenaries, bounty hunters, noblemen, assassins, local heroes, etc..
After all, you don't really think that the Pathfinder Society has a local chapter of the Assassin's Guild in its Grand Lodge, do you?

I'd like to run "The Confirmation" on Friday as a guest GM while visiting family elsewhere. Can you divulge in advance the flip-mats, map packs, and what sorts of basic pawns or minis I should pack in my suitcase?
Thanks.
I can give you more details for the maps than for the figures, but I'll share a little bit of each--enough to help you pack.
[Custom full-page map]
Flip-Mat: Deep Forest
Flip-Mat: Darklands
Map Pack: Caverns
If you have some of the following, you should be in good shape:
I won't go spoiling anything more until the scenario's available for purchase.

2 people marked this as a favorite. |

First Steps was a pretty easy scenario to learn GMing (compared to a scenario such as The Pallid Plague, for example, which requires some GM improvisation).
Given that The Confirmation has a "different experience each time you play it" thing happening, is there a steeper learning curve?
It should be one of the easiest scenarios to GM in addition to providing GM tips and a wealth of information on The Society. Of course John could have changed that, but I doubt it. ;-)

My question is should I play First Steps first or does this module precede First Steps?
First Steps precedes The Confirmation, but it is not required to play either before the other. It is entirely player preference in that regard.
In general, there is no required order of scenarios. Playing them in order of release will make more narrative sense and is obviously preferred, but only on a personal level.

Sounds to me like Joe Ranger should have GMed a couple scenarios first. That way it would have been his first actual mission and maybe he could have gotten that Masterwork Darkwood Composite Longbow with a +2 Strength pull and a Cure light Wounds Wand and still had money left. Joe Ranger just has to stop complaining in my opinion. :)

Thank you, it does appear that this module is meant to be an introduction to PFS. Is that correct?

New products usually go live towards the end of the business day.

It attempts to do several things in order of at least *my* priority:
1) Help all players form a (positive) connection between the Society and their characters.
2) Provide coordinators with an easy to run experience for players new to Pathfinder. (to answer mjcarney's question)
3) Help new GMs get their feet wet and gain exposure to the most common PFRPG rules at their most basic level.
4) Provide a unique and *desirable* experience for seasoned PFS veterans, both the first time and 10th time through the scenario.
5) Allow experienced GMs to influence the difficulty of the scenario to match the needs of the players at their table by providing the right tools.
6) Develop a Pathfinder NPC that people don't hate. (if that's even possible)
7) Let PCs fight MONSTERS instead humanoid NPC #742.

I felt we had that in FS1-3, they had a good flow and heaps of variety.
As a cheeky side note, they retired two free scenarios that did that and gave us back one that is a pay-per-view... tut tut :p

I'll save a review for when i play through a few encounters but
I LOVE the theme in this one.. you're actually exploring and acting like archeologists, something that's downright rare in a lot of scenarios it seems. The dig-site breathes a lot of life into the history and lore of Golarion and Absolom, revealed to the characters at the same time as the players, not info dumped on the DM where it may never see the light of day for 5/6 people at the table.
I like the new pathfinder NPC. It seems like she actually wants and is TRYING to get you to come back alive and will actually do something to achieve that end. Go team mom!
I am a little worried about the

I am a little worried about the ** spoiler omitted ** They can be rough on newbies. I'll have to see how the exact encounter plays out.
There's no one who will twist your arm and force you to run any of the possible creatures in any given encounter. If you are worried about that creature, don't use it. :-)

Yeah I posted this elsewhere sort of on this topic but despite me thinking that Kyle Baird has some pretty jaded advice for thread people in his more frequent interactions, he has written a scenario that has pretty much provided an instruction manual on how not to suck and/or die at PFS, and that is pretty rad...even if the only feedback it gives you is that your character died and you should perhaps go back and read the CRB a bit better.

Just bought this and I have yet to run it. I am once again disappointed by the volume of books required to run the scenario (Core Rulebook, APG, ARG, Bestiary 1-4). Seems to be that if I want to run two season 4/5 games at a con or my local gaming store I have to bring half my gaming shelf.
Not to mention that my local gaming store here in Dublin doesn't have Bestiary 4 in stock yet.

Kyle Baird |

If you read the scenario with a close eye, you'll find out that you can run this with only the CRB, APG, and Bestiary 1. Even then there's only a couple elements from the APG, so if you're familiar with them, you can leave that at home too. You'll also notice no UM or UC used.
I made a very conscious effort to limit the books required for this with new GMs and GMs running cold in mind.

I noticed that alright. It's just something I have been very aware of this last season as the reception in my local store is awful (making prd access difficult) so I've been carting in all the books required.
Having read through it I am looking forward to running and possibly re-running it (the mechanics for that look sound). Reads well so hopefully plays well too. Will post a review after the 7th!

![]() |

I'll be running this on the 7th, and try to write a review afterwards.
That said, on initial review I like what I see. I'd have preferred all the maps to be on mappacks since this will likely go with Crypt of the Everflame in my "Emergency GM Kit".
I do like that there's a nice bonus for a first time run through. The boons are nice.
Now I just need to decide if I want Samiel to get the credit, or if I want to start PC eleven... (PCs are like Dorritos, crunch all you want, I'll make more).
