Great

5/5

This is a great product that I got for Christmas. Anything that can be said about this, has been said. The only thing wrong with this, was specific to mine was with the latch. The latch is, at one corner, really dinged up pretty bad, almost like it had been grounded down and has other scratches on it. The content is great. Paper quality is fantastic. Having the handouts is great also.

Amazing.

5/5

Just got this as a Christmas gift, and I can't stop looking it. I've ran RotR before when Pathfinder was just coming out, and even though I own the whole AP in soft-cover, this book is still jaw-dropping. Not only is the presentation absolutely spectacular in every way but the attention to detail is astounding. The case itself that houses the hardcover is awesome and could easily be used for a prop if someone wanted to costume as Karzoug. It is also big enough to hold my Core Rulebook, dice, and other gaming supplies if I choose to use it for toting around game supplies instead of holding the AP. The AP itself is vastly improved, addressing a number of issues that pop up while playing it. There are expanded parts for every module and good re-writes of some of the older stat-blocks. While I feel that everyone should run or play RotR at least once, using this tome is probably the coolest way to do it. Amazing!

Delighted!

5/5

Disclaimer: I freelance for Paizo, but I had nothing to do with any stage of this product—and I paid for it with real money.

I saw this product demonstrated by Vic Wertz at PaizoCon 2012. When I recently received my copy it met all my expectations and more. Its made a delightful Christmas present to me from my wife. My copy came in excellent condition with no defects—and was obviously packed and shipped with care.

I am very pleased to have this collectible bit of history! Runelords got me playing again in 2007 and eventually entering RPG SuperStar

Thanks Vic and Paizo!

Better than I ever hoped

5/5

Mine just came today and I was stunned. I have been playing and collecting for 30+ years and this is the hands down nicest collectors item I have ever seen. My wife and I had some hesitation spending the money on this one seeing as I already have the original and the collected editions but after unboxing this beauty we both agreed this is the center piece of the collection. Thank you Piazo for an outstanding product.

More Than I Ever Could Have Hoped For

5/5

I just received my deluxe edition yesterday and it was thoroughly exciting to unbox it. The case is beautiful and heavy making a great display piece on our bookcase. As we opened it up and retrieved the adventure path from within, we were pleased to see the inner book very much resembled the case in a more practical way. The pages are a very nice stock giving the adventure path a similar thickness to the case. The pull out handouts is a brilliant idea and will save us plenty of prep time.

After perusing through the book, my wife was pleasantly surprised to see all the prints that were also included. She leafed through them and doesn't know where we are going to place all the beautiful art in our house.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is going to run the rise of the runelords adventure path and can afford to pay a bit extra for the quality. It is certianly worth it. This may also be one of the few ways to get so many beautiful wayne reynolds prints at such a low price. It is definitely worth the price point in my book.

Thanks for making such an awesome product! I will treasure it always.

The problem is the standard anniversary edition is very vague in what it gives compared to this one. I need comparisons. Especially if I'm going to shell out an additional $110 dollars.

As I understand it, the extra cost gives you:

The presentation case and the 15 prints.

The book is basically the same, except you also get:

Nicer paper. Imitation leather cover. Spiffy spine, trappings and so forth. Cloth bookmark. 22 Player Handouts.

I'd guess the case and the 15 prints is a significant part of the cost. But I'm pretty sure you're not getting any extra actual content, correct.

As I understand it, it's mainly about the look and feel - not about any extra stuff.

Ouch! $200 is nothing to sneeze at.

Currently, I'm being torn between the 'must have' instinct and the state my savings are in...
Nope. Sorry. This one is beyond affordability for me :(

You'd get your AP discount, of course (I'm not trying to talk you into it or anything - but it might be significant on a product this price).

Any idea how much this will weigh? Somewhat more than the CRB?

IIRC the credit card isn't made until the item ships, right? So, plenty of time to sell blood and other kinds of fluids.... like agua de jamaica :P

The worst part is that I don't think I'll cancel my regular RotRL special edition, 'cause I think it will be hard to have ALL the writers of the AP in a single place, and PaizoCon 2012 is THAT place :D

With that argument, I don't see why you would get the physical copy at all.

Saying that, I am in complete agreement that I need a comparison list before I pay more than double the price.

If it's just higher quality it's not as motivational as if it's actual extra content.

That's what I'm thinking too. See, I'm in the same predicament as

Midnight_Angel. This isn't really affordable in the same sense as the anniversary version is, unless the devs can convince me that this is more than just a conversation piece. I admit that it'd be nice to have the prints, have handouts I don't have to make copies of myself, and the bookmark so I don't have to fold pages. However, during an economic crisis in North America, they're asking a bit much for the shiny case. However, if the price is justifiable and not just for the metal casing, then I'm all ears and willing to haggle.

Because I like having a hard copy in my hands. I'm getting the pdf regardless with it so there's no questioning that aspect of things.

Good question.

And the second question is:
Under what kind of description will it appear in the invoice?
If it count as a book we oversea buyers will be paying a reasonably low VAT e custom tax.
If it appear as gaming paraphernalia it will go up a lot, probably costing us an extra 50%.
So Vic it is very important for us to know under what category it will be listed in the invoice. Can you ask the appropriate department and inform us?
Thanks.

I just ordered mine with no charge. From memory they put a small, temporary hold on your card the first time you preorder but that once your a subscriber they forgo that formality. (I wouldnt make that claim with any confidence though).

We don't intend to *lose* money on it, but this product is much more about celebration than profit. The production costs on this are frankly kind of staggering, and even if we sell every copy—which we hope to do—the profits will be pretty low.

Let me put it this way—it's a paizo.com exclusive because if we had to sell it through retail channels (with the associated distributor and retailer markups) while keeping a normal profit margin, we'd probably have to price this much closer to a thousand dollars.

Like I said, I'm willing to listen to their sales pitch on this thing. The two main issues I've got are: why would I get this over the standard anniversary edition (ie. what extras do I get by comparison?), and how much extra is shipping going to cost considering this thing probably weighs as much as a large brick?

The shipping is considerable - I'm overseas and had no option but priority. The software is estimating an additional $73.22 for one copy or $118.08 for two. :/

Yikes! Given that I'm probably as far or even further away down here in Sydney, that's definately thrown my hopes of getting this out the window. 270 dollars is the price of two hand-and-a-half swords if I have that kind of disposable income. :P

Well - there's the AP discount for you so it's more like $240 but still.

I'm in Adelaide - a little further than you, but probably not so you'd notice. :p

Well then... Kind of answers my second question. Ouch.

I want this book! I like limited editions. 200 $ is suitable for such a product. But 70$ shipping cost to Germany? Is that correct? In addition I must pay taxes and toll in Germany ca. 50$ for this product.

U not big Amazon with his cheap oversea shipping, I knwo that, but 70$ is to much. Heavy books from small Frog God Games r cheaper than Paizo.

Hope this is profitable though, would like to see stuff like this in the future when possible.

Wow...I really do have multiple personalities. And one of them has another Paizo account!

Also, to those complaining about the 'value', stop the madness. Limited edition products aren't about the value, it's about the extra. Instead of complaining that it isn't worth it, be thankful that Paizo is an straight enough company to forgo putting additional game content in the limited edition. This is about celebration.

A mini-adventure, taking the players from the death of the Runelord on to 20th level, exclusive to the Limited Edition would be the sort of thing that might fit right in to such a product, and that would make the choice not to get it a lot more painful.

*laughs* Sorry if I came across that way. I'm sure this edition is worth every cent for the collector and celebrator. It's just beyond what I am able (and willing) to part with. Of course, other ones' mileage will vary.

Ssssh... Don't give them ideas!

Actually, I have a proposal...

Paizo, make one of these for CoCT (Deluxe pathfinderized hardcover version), price it equal to this... and I'll order it in a heartbeat.

Deal?

I love the fact that you can collect all of Paizo's content without getting the limited editions, but the swanky editions of things are still out there for those with deeper pockets.

It's the same with minis: you can have paper minis, tokens, pre-painted plastic or unpainted metal depending on your inclination and/or budget.

I can't justify buying this but I appreciate how awesome it will be for those who can. If there was exclusive content I might feel a bit irked but Paizo have been too classy for that.

It looks amazing, if my finances changed I would love to grab this.

Indeed. In fact, this is how I became aware of the collector's edition.

I don't believe that's the case. I paid $68 for Slumbering Tsar postage to the UK, and I believe that Rappan Athuk will be much the same. It's painful (and the reason I don't take out any subs other than the AP, or get my hardcovers from Paizo), but that's the way it is. I really don't believe there's a cheaper option - if there was, I know Paizo would have found it.

This also doesn't come at a good time for me - I can't justify adding this on top of my Rappan Athuk pledge, so I'll just be picking up the standard edition from my FLGS - but that doesn't detract from the fact that this is an awesome product, and kudos to Paizo for bringing it to the collectors.

A working metal latch? Seriously? That's so cool.

According to the mail I received, you'll get your PDF when your copy ships.Which would mean, you will have to wait until November.

Or do I have to wait until my subscriptions are active to preorder this?

Everyone is complaining about where to find the money to buy this awesome prduct. I have solved that issue!

No Christmas gifts for the family. No anniversary gift for the missus. No birthday gifts for my brother, son, daughter and nephew. And best of all I think I'll skip paying college tuition for the fall semester for my son and daughter.
Now - if I can avoid buying th wife a birthday gift I think I can re-subscribe to the battlecase miniature line......

Edit: One minor request - wish it included a PDF. For $200 was hoping we'd get one (even if you're not an AP subscriber).

Rather than having to wait 6 months for the PDF it might be nice to give the PDF of the new edition for free to those who preorder the deluxe edition *AND* already bought all of the original runelords via subscriptions (and thus have the PDFs available through Paizo already).
