A most unusual adventure for 1st-level goblin characters.

The Licktoad goblins of Brinestump Marsh have stumbled upon a great treasure—fireworks! Yet unfortunately for them, the tribe member responsible for the discovery has already been exiled for the abhorrent crime of writing (which every goblin knows steals words from your head). To remedy this situation, the Licktoads’ leader, His Mighty Girthness Chief Rendwattle Gutwad, has declared that the greatest heroes of the tribe must venture forth to retrieve the rest of the fireworks from a derelict ship stranded in the marsh. In order to prove themselves as the Licktoads’ bravest goblins, the PCs must complete a series of dangerous dares, from swallowing bull slugs and braving the dreaded Earbiter to dancing with Squealy Nord himself. Yet even once they’ve proven their mettle, the adventure is just beginning. For the ship in question is far from uninhabited, and Vorka the cannibal goblin would like nothing better than a few tasty visitors....

We Be Goblins! is an adventure for 1st-level characters in which the PCs play a horde of malicious and murderous goblins, written for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and compatible with the 3.5 edition of the world's oldest RPG. The adventure takes place outside the town of Sandpoint in the Pathfinder campaign setting, but can easily be adapted for any campaign world. It also serves as a preview of Pathfinder Player Companion: Goblins of Golarion, and as an optional prequel to Pathfinder Adventure Path's upcoming Jade Regent Adventure Path.

Written by Richard Pett.

This special 16-page Pathfinder Module was initially made available for Free RPG Day on June 18, 2011.

We Be Goblins! is sanctioned for use in Pathfinder Society Organized Play. Its Chronicle Sheet and additional rules for running this module are a free download (232 KB zip/PDF). Pregenerated characters are available here (803 KB zip/PDF).

Loved This!

5/5

My players and I really enjoyed this.

The first "act" with the challenges is a great introduction to goblin culture and a great warmup for the session. It set much of the tone of the game and even a sort of hierachy amoungst the goblin PCs.

The second act where the goblins travel towards their objective was fun. I could have used some flavour text here, but I'll be more prepared next time.

The last act is a load of fun, but I really suggest using miniatures to keep track of things, I had players all over the place and the multiple levels made things more tricky.

Play this, you won't be sorry.

Amazingly fun

5/5

My perspective on this scenario is as a GM. Be warned, spoilers may follow!

Story
A simple story, yet efficient. Who wouldn't like to play a goblin? The story doesn't matter much: the premise does, then the story takes care of herself. Your players will create the story you're looking for. Beside that aspect, I particularly liked the emphasis on goblin quirks (regarding writing, horses, dogs, names, etc.).
Story score: 4/5

Roleplay
It's the reason you're playing this module. Goblins, especially at low level, are amazingly fun to roleplay with. You can afford to die and live your goblin life to its fullest, it won't matter. Life is short, enjoy it and feel free to push the usual boundaries of palying your regular character!
Roleplay score: 5/5

Encounters
Nothing much to say about them, except that Mr.Pett did an excellent job making encounters fun through the possible use of various devices like fireworks. Your encounters will never be the same, trust me.
Encounters score: X/5

As a conclusion, I'd like to emphasize how this module will make the best roleplaying experience of your life. Well, maybe not the best, but the funniest!
Total: 5/5

great fun!

5/5

I loved this one.
A great chance to leave the serious stuff at home and just have fun with these little pests.
I'm looking forward to GMing or playing we be goblins, too.

Deliriously silly

5/5

This module is just insane. Explosions. Vomiting. A love interest named Gupy Wartybits. Fear of dogs. Horse hatred. Eating slugs competitively. Riding rodeo-style on a hyperactive piglet named Squealy Nord.

All of it culminates in the most wonderfully enjoyable Free RPG day module ever. If you get the chance to play this, take it.

A total classic

Be sure to sing your songs!! And play with your pets...

While giving the full PDF early would violate the Free RPG terms, I'm fairly certain just the pregens wouldn't be an issue. I seem to recall something similar happening last year. Although my memory might be fuzzy.

We plan to have it available sometime this week. Putting that Chronicle together is actually on my to-do list today, so keep an eye out in the next few days.

Thanks Mark,

Next time your by the city to visit we'll get a game going!

The Chronicle and PFS play rules have been turned over to the web team and will be downloadable both from this page as well as the Pathfinder Society Additional Resources page.

I just called around and none of the game stores in my area are supporting Free RPG Day. Last year 2 out of the 5 stopped supporting it and now the rest have followed suit. Is this happening in other areas too? All of them said it was just to costly to participate in and didn't draw nearly the crowds to warrant the cost. So if I want this I have to order it.

I am greatly saddened. I live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, na das you may know, the Canadian postal service is in the middle of a strike/lockout. As a result, all the FLGS's here never got there Free RPG day boxes.

Yes, somehow the Grinch stole Free RPG Day.

Sure, I can get the pdf online... but it's just not the same.

Paizo often has some left over that they sell on the web site. So you will still have a chance.

Oh believe me I have and the five closest shops to me are not supporting Free RPG Day. One place about an hour away is listed on the site but they say they are not participating in the Free RPG Day (plus they are a comic shop and don't actually stock RPG games).

Edit - It is actually worse than my initial numbers I have now called 10 shops (mostly comic shops that have small RPG sections) all within an hour or so drive away and none are supporting Free RPG Day anymore all of them have stopped.

Agreed. This is awesome. Cant wait to play this.

In anticipation that our tables will run to six players each, and because we'd prefer to avoid double-ups of the official pre-gens so that every goblin played will be the unique and beautiful bloodflake intended, _metz_ has built a couple more.

If you're going to play this, then rather than access the spoiler yourself, it may be better to point this resource out to your GM. There are no scenario spoilers here but the flavour and style might reduce the initial experience on the day when pre-gens are handed out.

Please note that these characters won't be able to receive a Chronicle if you're playing PFS as they're unofficial but they may come in useful if you have players that don't care about that.

We Be More Goblins!:

I'm posting them here with metz' permission. We've stuck the Paizo goblin pics that inspired the characters on there too - I hope it's OK to include the pics but if I'm reliably informed they contravene acceptable use, I'll remove them.

If you like these and you use them in your game, I invite you to show _metz_ your appreciation but posting here how they fared! Note that, of course, if you allow your tables to size to 6 players, you'll need to scale the encounters appropriately. Have fun!

I can't help but be tempted to combine this with the Rise of the Runelords AP, and create an adventure path that results in 15th level goblins by its end...

These things look fantastic. I havent gotten my hands on a copy of the module yet, cause Im not the GM running it on Saturday, but Ive printed copies for use, just in case we have more than 4 players.

Awesome work!

Personally, I wouldnt keep a chronicle from a player who used one of these in place of a duplicate of an official pregen-goblin just cause they arent official. Assuming these are anything like what the module has designed out (which it looks about right to me, so it probably is), then I really dont see any harm in allowing a player to use them. Just my 2cp though.

I saw a few people mention it, but is there any chance that the pregens can be posted as a pdf (hopefully sometime tomorrow)? It would be very useful to be able to print them out rather than have to use a copier.

I've just asked the art team to compile a PDF of the pregens and once that's done I'll get it to the web team for them to put up on the product page.

Cheers!

A few disclaimers:

1. I made these prior to the Chronicle rules coming out, where I sourced it from the Mod about being allowed to make additional Pregens.

2. I used the Goblin Song page for inspiration, so if I have copied some lines directly, or just changed names - I don't take credit for them - just for altering them.

3. Al has already talked about the pictures, please let me know if I should take them down.

I don't suppose it would be unreasonable to ask if we could give chronicles to people who use these? I don't think it breaks the intent of the day - and frankly I built these to let people all stay in character and really 'goblin it up' NOT to give Players an easy free chronicle with an optimised Goblin!

I've found a bit more time to update the additional pre-gens document and to do a little editing. New compliant image and disclaimer included, as well as the 10 Fun Facts About Goblins and the original Goblin Song! The original file is now removed and replaced with this. Hope you like it.

The pre-generated characters from the back of the adventure are now available as a pdf download from the bottom of the product page (in the same place you can get the PFS Chronicle). Enjoy, folks!

Pravus - Fortunately, the event sells out every year...with stores calling after it is sold out to participate. And unfortunately, the event does not work for every retailer. In the end, it is up to the store to choose to spend the $80 (the cost this year) associated with the kit.

I truly believe that if enough consumers ask their FLGS to participate, they probably will.

Goblin alchemists would be awesome...

If they could figure out how to scribe formula without writing them down.

That was my big question about this adventure (spoilerish)

Spoiler:
One of the pregens, specifically Mogmurch is an alchemist with a formula book. What are some ideas to explain this as it would be hard to hide the book and he obviously needs to it to function. I was thinking it could be pictograms or something but it is still a big hole in the story being that the entire plot hinges upon the goblins punishing one of their tribe members for writing. Any ideas?

That is a really cool idea. It could have a lot of things glued into it like a deranged scrap book. A formula could have bits of what is needed in folds or glued on. I like that a lot.

They're not sold out. My guess is that while the release date for the PDF can be automated (they do it every month), a switch must be switched on to make the physical release available for people to buy it.

So we'll likely have to wait until the morning in Redmond (probably in about 6-10 hours).

Free RPG Day

If $80 is all the kit costs, I'm sure my local store made up their money on it. They were limiting people to two items so I got We Be Goblins and the World of Darkness freebie. My friend got the All Flesh Must Be Eaten freebie and gave it to me. My understanding is that such a limitation is set by an individual store, not the Free RPG Day organization, but those were the only three things I wanted so I'm glad he came with me. (He plays in my current on/off campaign but otherwise isn't much of a gamer.)

I bought Castle Ravenloft Board Game there on Free RPG Day for $62 (less than it was marked, actually, the clerk said it was a Free RPG Day discount) and according to their Facebook page they had a ton of tables running Magic (Magic Commander?) and Yu-Gi-Oh and a 4e game going and even some people played boardgames, and Warhammer 40k is popular there so there was that too. I always try to buy something when I get the freebies, or even just when I stop in, but I hadn't planned to spend that much. I wish they carried Item Cards so I could buy my 2nd and 3rd decks of Item Cards from them. I might ask about that next time I'm there.

Didn't stick around to play anything myself because I'd been up all night. Skimmed We Be Goblins. Looks really cool.

I'm sure this wasn't nearly as interesting as I like to think it was, but there's my experience of getting We Be Goblins for Free RPG Day.

Got this and Tomb of the Iron Medusa yesterday with some odd and ends minis. I cant say thank you enough to Paizo for putting so much production value into a freebie. It really looks fun and im gonna run it for my group whenever we are a person short....Pun intended.
