This thing is frickin' huge! And I love it! The Inner Sea Poster Map Folio contains four individual posters that, when combined, create a massive map of the Inner Sea region of Golarion. The map is over 5 feet tall and about 3 1/2 feet wide. It's the most detailed of any Inner Sea map I've ever seen, with large cities, tiny villages, dungeons and named ruins, and more. It's the best way to a get a real sense of scale of where things are in the Inner Sea. The map stretches from Winterwall Glacier and The Worldwound in the north all the way down to the Jungle of Hungry Trees and the Field of Maidens in the south. True nerd that I am, I've had the panels laminated and hung on the wall of my soon-to-eventually-be gaming room, and used little flags to indicate where groups are currently adventuring. If I had any complaints, it's that the four panels don't overlap perfectly, and that the map doesn't show roads or trails between places. Overall, though, it's a pretty awesome (and functional) backdrop for gaming sessions.
I was very excited for this product, but should have read the reviews. The four posters do not line up. No matter how I tried to get them "close enough" it looked obviously offset at the extremes. I praise Paizo at every opportunity I have, but a lack of quality control has rendered this product a huge disappointment.
I have no space at home to put this on a wall where it belongs, but I have brought it along time after time when I'm GMing and it really clarifies locations for most of the players. I feel it is important to have a frame of reference like this available, especially since a good half of the players don't have any idea where they are when you just give them a name and a country. Depth of the gaming experience matters.
Okay, the map itself is awesome. I was expecting it to be big, but you can't get a sense of the scale of it until it is tacked up on your wall. I tried taking a photo of it to email to my friends, but a photo cannot capture the scale.
The colours are great and the level of detail is amazing. Looking at it, it's hard to believe that the Inner Sea Region is an imaginary place.
The one flaw, and the reason I've given it four starts instead of five, is the fact that it is packaged folded, not rolled. The product consists of four tiled poster maps, each of which is folded into eight segments. The folds mean that it does't tac onto the wall quite flat. Previous reviews have commented that the joins on the maps don't quite match. This isn't true - joins do match. The problem is that because the maps are folded, the edges don't always match up where you'd expect them to. Getting the four maps to fit together requires some effort to stretch them out first and then fit them together.
All in all a great product. I don't regret my purchase at all - the map is basically what I expected. If it had been package in a tube instead of a folio, though, it would have captured five stars from me.
What if we're the crazy type that wants to spend several hundred dollars to get a massive 1-piece version made? Is it possible to make arrangements to purchase the art and have it done locally?

Yes, send a check for several hundred dollars to my attention at Paizo.com and I'll see what I can do. No promises, though.

Mark, sweet! Can I send you a check for several hundred dollars too?!!?

Seeing how the PDF versions of recent map folios are set at a 300dpi resolution, I guess you could just stitch the four parts of the map in the PDF and make someone print that file, and everything will be really fine.
Except for the watermark that will appear at the top and the bottom of each section…

When the four poster maps of the Forgotten Realms came out in Dragon Magazine a long time ago, I had all four professionally mounted and coated. It costs $300 then but is well worth it. Anyone want to buy it? Local pick up only please :)
I plan to get the same thing done with these. It will be a perfect replacement to the FR map in my basement.

Now when you say 'coated' do you mean laminated? And if so, do you mean the flexible lamination, the one you can roll up? Or the thick coating, where the maps have to be flat?
I wonder would it be possible to have an un-creased version of this map folio that could ship in a poster tube? Might make a nice limited-edition item...

I doubt it, but I am with you on this, would like to see it myself. It would be way too big (and expensive) to do all four pieces as one map, but it would be nice to see four rolled up maps. But, I don't think it's going to happen.
Besides the maps being protected more, it's one of the reasons why I want to have all four maps laminated, so it gets rid of the creases.

Not really. Shipping (both to us from the printer and to you) would make it economically unfeasible.
OK. I am already geting one of these as part of my subscription. If I want more than one, can I just preorder a second one or will that mess up the way the subscription works?

For you cartographiles, it's a simple trip to Staples to have all 4 laminated for your wall. I checked with them and they can handle this size. Barely though. lol

And what price did they quote you to have all four laminated? I am thinking about having them laminated, but I don't know if I want to do all four together, would be too big.

If you already have a sub, and *then* you order another map, you'll get two maps.
If you already have a map ordered, and *then* you start a sub, we'll attach the preorder to your sub, so you'll just get one map.
I see this got pushed back to February... *sigh* I hate having to wait :(
The question is: Do you hate having to wait more than you hate having a map with lots of errors and mistakes? For me, I'd rather wait. ;-)
That is a tough one...
I realy do love maps and this looks Awesome!
Since this got pushed back, can we have a Naming That Island contest?!
Island names, along with all other named locations, need to be generated in-house so that I can be more sure that they're not obscure easter eggs that could turn a location into a joke or, worse, into something someone could use to sue Paizo over copyright infringement.
And for me, it's not a tough question at all. I'd much MUCH rather hear folks complain about late maps than about errors. After all, once a late map is out, that complaint goes away. But significant errors on a map will linger forever.

And this is why you are the Creative Director of an incredible successful RPG line and I am just a fan. Honestly this delay is no different than having to wait for the latest PC(or console) game from Blizzard or Bioware or Bethesda. I hate having to wait for them, but I KNOW I will not be disappointed.
Random question, because I am obsessed with map-making :)
Can you share how you crafted this?
Did you start with a actual physical piece of art or was this born digital?
What software packages did you use to create it?
A combination of paper sketches, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign were used in the creation of the map...along with a not-insignificant amount of blood, sweat and tears.
I've updated the product image and description to match the finished product.

I thought this was going to be 32 panels, is this no longer the case? Maybe I am just confused by the wording. Then again, perhaps each quadrant has 8 panels.
Please, please, please, find a way to make the watermark on the PDF file unobtrusive for those of us that want to have the poster reprinted as a single and unfolded piece. Please.
Any chance that if the world expands, that future map folios might connect to this one somehow?
Very very very unlikely. For a host of reasons, not the least of which being that the rest of the world is unlikely to fit neatly onto equally sized posters.
Just wondering... will this be exactly the same as the map that comes with the Inner Sea World Guide hardcover book... just smaller.
That map is going to be 21x32, whereas this one is 42x64, so it seems it might be a half-sized version.
Am I correct, or is this map labelled diferently, or different in some other way, to the map in the hardcover?
21x32 is one-quarter of the area of 42x64, not one-half. So this map is *four* times larger than the one in the Guide to the Inner Sea. As such, the smaller map only has tags for major cities. This larger version has tags for pretty much every taggable location possible.
You got your email before me. I envy you. BTW I got the PDF of the Psionics in the bundle packet. You can look it over Sunday. Also finally ordered the Sorcerer on a Black Dragon. Due in any day now.

So, the borders of the four quadrants overlap. Which is perfect for what I want to do.
Wonderful map, can't wait to lay it out on my floor. Congrats to Paizo and to Mark, who I know did a lot of work on this. Many kudos to Rob Lazzaretti for his always wonderful work.
