Really Great!

I have a fairly substantial collection of miniatures, but trying to collect, paint and transport them to a game can be a headache. These paper minis fit the bill! They look good on the table and supply you with every figure you need to run the adventure.

One thing I really like is the scale. It is nice to have a paper miniature that is the appropriate size. Goblins, humans, animals, giant creatures, it all looks good!

Almost perfect

4/5

You can tell on the last ones of Shalelu and Orik Vancaskerkin that the images just don't line up. You can barely see white lines crisscrossing on them.

And poor Aeren is listed as only a Townsfolk.

Anyhoo, these are great and get 4.5 stars from me.

Not a fan

2/5

Perhaps I'm being unfair as you get a good idea of the art on the cover but to be honest I really dislike the art. For some reason I expected more from the glowing reviews.

I just bought this minutes ago and these minis will never even be printed. Total waste.

Oh well.

Great Overall Use

4/5

This set has great overall use in campaigns outside of Rise of the Runelords.

I'm using this for PFS only and these minis have seen a lot of use. You can almost always find a use for goblins, zombies, shadows, some animals, and some distinct human NPCs.

Edit: I'm reducing the rating to 4 stars because the art and coloring have improved significantly since this set came out.

Worth every penny....

5/5

These are a wallet saver and I like the art style.

Big thanks to Jason S for the review!

Greetings!

So, I'm sold on the paper minis. I'm going to making awesome ones using that cool pawn guide made by that RPGHacker guy. Only, instead of using his (admittedly nifty) template, I'm going to knock my own together using GIMP (because, well, I have the skills, and I have like a month before the adventure book comes out). This template will include a little of the chosen base color at the bottom, with the mini's name picked out in an average-ish reverse shade using the right font.

Question for the minis author, Callous Jack? What font are the minis' names in? I'm no good at recognising fonts by name, so I figure I'd ask.

Since I'm going to be giving this treatment to basically the whole pdf (once I have everything figured out, would you by chance be interested in my finished .xcf files?

And, if anyone cares, the font I was looking for is called Black Chancery, and it's freely available.

CJ, I was just going back over this set and realized that the Giant Crab is the wrong size, at least for the original rendition of this AP. You've got him as a medium size, when the AP calls out for a large size.

Liberty's Edge

Any possibility of updating or adjusting the paper minis for the hardcover?

Hm, I thought I fixed that months ago... Did you download the file recently?

Definitely. It may not come before the end of Skull & Shackles however. I'm not really sure what I need to update just yet. If it was just a handful, then I could that. If it's dozens, maybe not...

I do have a big surprise coming soon though...
;-)

CJ, sorry about that, you apparently have corrected it. I had downloaded the latest one, but I apparently wasn't looking at the latest one. I should know better than to make an assumption on my actions, after I've been distracted by shiny.

On a separate note, do you know if anyone is working on some minis for Jade Regent? Thanks.

Hey, no problem! I have messed up quite a few mini sizes in the past so I'm grateful people keep an eye out for those kinds of errors.

And I have not heard of anyone working on JR but Liz would be your person to ask.

Liberty's Edge

Comparing this to the AE, you need the following to bring it up to speed:

2 human skeletons
1 tickwood boar
1 Orm (wren familiar for Erylium)

Sovereign Court

Noted, thanks!

Liberty's Edge

Also, in the AE, the Giant Hermit Crab is MEDIUM instead of large.

I'll check it out. Thanks, HangarFlying.

Liberty's Edge

Awesome-O! For the record, I just ran mine through GIMP to shrink it. I'll be running my next session this Saturday. Due to having pawns and minis, I'm only needing to use a handful of the papers (the crab, tendriculous, Shadowmist, and the Harem Goblins - cuz those are too good to pass up). I'll do my best to post pictures, if I remember!

Sovereign Court

Updates coming soon! :)

WOOOOOOOOOO!

The PDF has been updated to be in line with the Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition release! The following miniatures have been added or updated:

Spoiler:

  • New versions of Sandpoint townsfolk to reflect their new appearances in the hardcover release
  • Bethana Corwin
  • Boar
  • Two skeletons
  • A Large and Medium giant hermit crab
  • Some townsfolk from People of Sandpoint

Sovereign Court

Great, thanks Liz!

Just an FYI for folks; I updated several minis like Orik and Aldern but I also left the old ones in, just in case someone preferred using them.

I'm glad you have a choice.

Hey jaws, thank you for the review!

I'd like to fix the errors you mentioned. Which Shalelu and Orik are you speaking of, the old versions or the new? Aeren is an easy fix.

Again, I really like these (and I finally get to use ALL of your great Paper Minis from the set with the townsfolk since we changed campaigns!); they are so useful for making Sandpoint and the AP come alive.

ALSO: I really like the new design of the sinspawn, Tsuto, Shalelu, Orik, Lyrie and Aldern!

BUT: who the heck is Bethana Corwin? I've like read the AE front to back like 14 times (ok, it was 3, really) but nowhere can I find where that little girl comes into play... *sadface*
Any pointers?

Thanks!
Ruyan.

Bethana Corwin is a halfling woman who works as a maid at the Rusty Dragon. She’s the catalyst for the incident at the Glassworks — she comes to the PCs with Tsuto’s note and asks them to look into Ameiko’s disappearance. Strictly speaking, that’s probably not a scene that would require a paper mini, but I’d imagine some GMs might introduce Bethana a little early for the sake of immersion. After all, if she’s one of the bystanders present at the Swallowtail Festival when goblins crash the party, and the PCs interact with her there (say, by rescuing her from said Stupid Little Freaks), they have all the more reason to hear her out when she asks for their help further down the road^H^H^H^H adventure path. ;)

Thanks! Had my eyes fixed on Ameiko, I guess...

Ruyan.

Sorry for the late reply, RuyanVe and thanks for the assist, Trace Coburn!

It kinda upsets me that these aren't bundled with the AP. I understand that not every creature in the AP can have a mini but that's what I bought the pawns for, to fill in the gaps. Then I see that even the pawn set doesn't cover it. Now I find myself pondering whether or not to spend even more money for just a couple pieces in a paper minis set when I've already spent a fortune

Pathfinder Paper Minis are not produced by Paizo—they are produced under license, which is why they're not bundled with the AP volumes.

yes but you could certainly take any combo of products you sell on yur site, bundle them, and set a price. I understand that paizo pays a price for them as well but considering the factors it woulda been nice if paizo stepped in and offered a deal to ease the frustration of guys in my shoes. I mean, paper minis are of way less quality than pawns and they are actually more expensive. That sux a second time around when you factor in how much I've spent on minis and pawns resulting in me only needing a couple of the papers.

Don't mind me lizz, I'm just a lil upset cuz A: I have to use paper minis after all, and B: I have to pay for a whole set when I only need the few that my other sets unfortunately didn't cover. I know this isn't paizos fault, I just wish they would offer a better deal on this particular product because of factor B
